I don't think that film frame's real. When I purchased Peter Pan at FYE earlier this year, I got exactly the same thing for being the first person to buy the DVD. The card had a sketch on the front of the Lost Boys being compared in height for the animators' reference (which can be seen in the DVD gallery). The back just had the background of the DVD cover with a blip promoting the DVD. The "collectible film image" (which was of the Lost Boys saluting Peter) is made to look like a film frame, but it was too oversized and clear to be real to me. I don't have the card on me right now to measure, but it had to have been about two inches wide, way too large to be taken from an actual film reel. So for those of you in the U.S. interested in getting that card for the Jungle Book, I'd suggest trying FYE first thing that morning.

Yes, that's exactly it. The "cell" included is definitely way too big to be taken from an actual film. Also notice how unusually bright and clear the frame is, when real film has to have light shining behind it to be seen clearly. I suspect The Jungle Book's the same case.

I wonder if this "cell" was meant to be in the Deluxe gift set in the UK and was taken out - in order to give another company an 'exclusive'?

The other gift sets released in the U.S. in previous years had a cell and so it was surprising to me that the UK gift set was missing it.

My God! It appears every UK retailer has declared war upon each other.

Play.com also have a Jungle Book exclusive exclusive.

Pop up packaging.

That will probably end up being a DMC exclusive Cover...

Same thing they did with Cinderella III: A Twist In Time... When it came to the Disney Movie Club.. You could do the double feature plus get the card and the slipcover popped up like that Cindy III DVD...

The whole pop-up slipcover seems a tad.....too much IMO.

Sorry if it's already been posted, but DVD Talk's review of the DVD can be seen here: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=29679

Wow, it's amazing how much is in that review and yet we hardly learn anything that wasn't already said in the press release. I'm also not seeing any mention of the original theatrical trailer anywhere. Darn. It's also a shame that after the commentary and making-of are excluded, most of the bonus features don't even exceed 10 minutes. Not the worst platinum edition, but it seems Disney stopped trying in the end.

Can't wait for the UD review to pop up and completely trump this one!

Thanks for that, Pasta. I normally don't read DVDTalk reviews anymore, so I simply looked for two things:

1. The commentary participants: Richard Sherman, Andreas Deja, Bruce Reitherman, Larry Clemmons (archival), Ollie Johnston (archival), Wolfgang Reitherman (archival)

2. Apparently "Hate Song" isn't included in the Deleted Songs.

Naaaaah. That review isn't up to UD standards. Luke will blow their socks off it his.

Oh, and just for the record, I think of Pasta67 more as spaghetti with tomato sauce and a sprinkling of cheese, rather than penne. And pesto doesn't suite him at all, especially the green variety. I feel a sauce involving dairy products, such as fresh cream would mesh better with his carpet.

Its wierd that in sneak peeks it doesnt have anything on the next platinum...shouldnt there be a trailer for 101 dalmations? and Im wondering what the preview for Aristocats will say (2-disc again or just special edition)

So, i've been wondering something for a while. Do you guys think that "lighthousemike" will post another "early review"/screencaps of Jungle Book Platinum Edition much like he did for TLM and Fox and the Hound? I've been looking forward to that, or hoping he would get another early copy and show it to us.

I doubt it. Mike hasn't posted an advance preview for us since Cinderella III back in February. After that, he only posted sporadically, his last post being in June. Either he lost contact with whoever got him the early copies, or he's been too busy to post previews for us. I think it's probably a combination of both.

I'm still hoping!! I live "lighthousemike"'s early DVD previews. It is exciting to see the disc art, screen caps, menus, booklet, slipcover and such. However, it will be nice to experience those things first hand when I buy the DVD for once.

It also didn't say anything about a new trailer for The Little Mermaid III which is kinda sad. I'm really excited for UD's review. When should we expect it?

Now that our buck is at par (or very close to it), it's kind of tempting to jump the border and get Jungle Book at Target. Around this neck of the woods it will probably be around $20.
