I finally watched Song of the South

What a bland movie!

Yay, he's back with a 3rd year of reviews! So far, like the first 2 years of Disneycember, his points are, for the most part, spot-on!

Oh God, I'm hoping he never seen these to begin with. Seriously, I wasn't able to continue the 1st film after seeing the basketball scene at the beginning. Just not for me. Too Over-hyped! If he was able to sit through this whole film, and the other 2... guts.

The film was seen by many to be a risk, and a huge financial one at that. Paramount thought that teaming up with another studio would be the answer and a suitable candidate, due to their knowledge of animation, was The Walt Disney Studio.

Hate saying this, but I kinda agree with this film. It's just so boring. I remember it's the one film along the Parent Trap that's always put up on bus trips and on the Disney Channel...And many do they get boring after a while.
Strangely enough stuff like Little Mermaid or Aladdin I've watched many times and I never get tired of them, but with this film along the 3rd time I was already getting bored.

I love how amused he sounds about the sequel. I never thought of it as a bad movie. Cliched, though? Oh, yes. But what bothers me is that Mia's betrothed, Andrew, actually had chemistry with her. At least, more so that the other guy. But that would be too unique, a royal marriage where both partners respect and like each other.

I liked Princess Diaries, like madly liked it, when I was about eleven years old, because when you're that old, the cliches are new to you, you haven't seen all the cliches all before.

But when you get older and start to experience more old and newer movies and see the cliches appear, yeah, Princess Diaries looses it's appeal.

I think the movies are great if you're like a tween, but nothing anything older than that. I don't think that Doug didn't get that he wasn't the target audience, and not a 10- 14 year old girl.

Yeah they are horrible, if you're anything older but..... duh.... you know ? xD

Him thinking that a tween girls movie was going to bust out on the Politics and not Slumber Parties was silly imo.

I haven't seen his takes on the films yet, but I have to admit, I didn't even care enough to finish The princess Diaries when I tried it about a decade ago. I can't speak for Doug as of yet, but I think it was just too girly and not funny enough for me.

But you know what review really rubbed me the wrong way? His Hocus Pocus one. I get that the film has a couple of pointless references to the main guy's virginity, but dude, you're reading way into nothing.

And may I just say that I've been disappointed with his choices for this month overall. Doug skipped way too many good films from Walt's time and even a little later to go through an onslaught of films he's tackled before or aren't nearly as memorable or good to most other people. Snore.

Yea, I'm shocked that he skipped Newsies. Esepecially that it's a massive hit now

The Hocus Pocus review bothered the HELL out of me for that same reason. It truly is an odd thing in the film, but he spends so much time with it I was boggled by it. What I find funny is that the things I thought he would spend more time bitching about, like the bullies and other 90s family film tropes and cliches he LOATHES so much, he ignored them while focusing on that alone.

I know someone said that Doug's reviews are supposed to represent the view of the average man or something of the sort, but the thing is that this is a man that claims to love film and comedy as an art, and looks up to Roger Ebert as being a great film critic. The guy supposedly loves film and criticism, but these Disneycember reviews are so poor in quality that it boggles the mind. Worse is that since some people worship his words as the gospel, they will accept it and will not give the films the credit that they deserve.

Then it's the way he presents those opinions. I have said this before, but he has severe redundancy issues, constantly repeating words and phrases to describe his thoughts (like "the blank is blank, the blank is blank, and the blank is blank", "over the top", "excellent" and such). Then there's his constant "NYEEEEEEEH"-ing when he can't exactly explain his main beef with the movie is. It is weird because you can see that in his editorials he clearly wrote a long, elaborate script where his thoughts flow very nicely, whereas these reviews feel like spur of the moment things. Just watch one of his editorials, then one of these reviews and you can see how under-prepared Doug is at times on his Disneycember reviews.

No offense if you guys agree with his reviews and have no issue with them. Just saying that considering the material he is working with, he is not giving it his all, putting reviews out to meet a deadline and provide daily content for monetary reasons rather than to study and reflect on the Disney films he claims to love dearly.

I remember Doug saying during the first Disneycember review, that he was copying off James Rolfe's Cinemassacre Monster Madness. So far, he has done a poor job of it, and a lot less entertaining than James.

He just seems horribly organized with this, as I felt like in the first year, he rushed through the hand-drawn films, as if to get them over and done with. And he doesn't seem to enjoy it very much, making me wonder "why bother in the first place".

Maybe he would have been better off doing around 25 per year, and save the rest for future Disneycembers. Thus probably get 25 better and more interesting reviews than get 40 half-ass reviews in 1 year.

I have seen not any from this year, but it sounds like more of the same thing.

I love the music from this movie a lot

I am also surprised that he skipped over Swiss Family Robinsons and Old Yeller, movies that are very popular and well recognized in film and Disney culture. Those would have made more sense than, say, Popeye.

Here are some of the noteworthy films Doug skipped over:
- Treasure Island (Officially the first live action Disney film not counting the hybrid films)
- Old Yeller
- The Shaggy Dog
- Pollyanna
- The Absent Minded Professor
- That Darn Cat!
- The Happiest Millionaire
- Return to Witch Mountain

The Absent Minded Professor had a remake in Flubber, which he reviewed as the Nostalgia Critic. Surprised that he didn't use the opportunity to talk about the original in comparison to the remake.
