Here’s a brand new special look of Disney’s Moana 2, in theaters in 50 days:
https://youtu.be/JdSl4RMNtGE?si=RW_R3pJpQ0eI3YaJ.
Well, I’m glad they’re showing off more of the new characters, teasing the new songs without revealing them in full, and teasing the new villains, along with revealing the god of storms will talk. The only question now is who’s voicing the god of storms.
Also, this special look feels more like a trailer than a spot, which the “We’re Back” sneak peek felt like.
I think both the "special look" (which I agree is definitely a full trailer) and the new Japanese one are the best trailers so far. And yes, they finally revealed Nalo will talk. The Japanese trailer and one of the TV spots I've just posted also show he apparently has a human appearance as well and it's not just a cloud-like creature. On the one hand, I like that, but I wonder if it makes him too similar to Zeus, who is also a god of storms. The directors are now calling him the film's main villain in the Total Film article. I wonder why they haven't revealed who's voicing him yet.
Here's a translation of what is said in the trailer, for anyone interested:
THREE YEARS AFTER THAT ADVENTURE
SIMEA: Moana!
MOANA: Simea!
SIMEA: Older sister.
I thought you'd never come back.
MOANA: It's only been three days.
I found this.
MONI: Once, people were connected by the sea, but they were torn apart by a god who hated humans. If we can reach a certain island, we can break the curse.
MOANA: I have to do it.
FROM THE CREATORS OF FROZEN
SINA: You can't do this alone.
MOANA: I need a traveling companion.
MOANA: Maui, where are you?
Maui!
MAUI: You need me, right?
MOANA: We're gonna find the island and break the curse.
SIMEA: Will I ever see you again?
MOANA: The ocean is my friend, and wherever we go, the ocean connects us.
SIMEA: Pretend this is me.
EVEN IF WE CAN NEVER COME BACK TO PROTECT THOSE WE LOVE
MOANA: To restore the bonds that were torn apart.
GO ON AN ENDLESS JOURNEY
NALO: No one can break my curse.
MAUI: Moana, you are not alone.
MATANGI: If you go anywhere near that island, you will not return alive.
MOANA: Beyond this sea, everyone is waiting for us.
We will surely be united again.

Thanks for posting those links to the toys! To be honest, I was looking forward to the dolls (just like I did with
Wish), but the dolls of Moana herself are disappointing. They look generic and lackluster. And that`s despite how Mattel are making them again, as opposed to Hasbro. At least the dolls for Simea and Loto looks better, but they still don`t look amazing. The small toys looks better, though.
I agree about the Moana dolls. They don't resemble the character much. From what I remember, the ones they made for the first movie were better in that regard.

I also believe she's not going to be a real villain, but the original didn't have one either, so I guess it's following in its footsteps, like with everything else. But maybe she'll be Maui's love interest or the very least Maui's crush who isn't interested in him.
A crush or love interest for Maui could be interesting. It's true they seem to be following in the first movie's footsteps very closely. Like other members, I'm a bit worried about that. I understand them wanting to include some of the elements that made the first one so popular, but I hope the film still feels fresh and not like a remake.
One more thing the sequel seems to have like the original is
a big twist in the third act. According to Grace Randolph,
there's a big reveal or development at the end of the movie. She said she knows somebody who has seen it, who told her that. They also thought
Moana 2 was "surprisingly good." Though, of course, that's just one person's opinion; we still don't know what the general reaction from critics and audiences will be like.
Speculation ahead:
I've heard a theory that Nalo could be like Maui's adoptive father; the god who rescued him after he was abandoned by his human parents and who made him a demigod. While Matangi could be another former human child rescued by Nalo, since she's also a demigod, which would make her Maui's sister. Something like Thanos and his "daughters." That would be kind of interesting. Perhaps Nalo even lied to them and they weren't abandoned by their human parents, but he stole them and told them so to make them hate humans like he does.
Although, the fact that Nalo isn't shown in his human form in what looks like the big battle at the end also makes me suspect it might not be the real Nalo, but someone pretending to be him like Matangi, for example. Then she would be the real antagonist, though it doesn't mean she can't still be redeemed by the end.

I think she's really the villain, one of the complains from the first one was the lack of a true villain
Well, if she turns out not to be evil, Nalo could still be a true villain. What made me think Matangi wouldn't be a traditional villain are the following words by the film's song composers, but we'll see.
The other thing Disney excels at is villain songs. Did you get to write one of those for the film?
BEAR: We did. Our new villain is very multifaceted. She's very layered, and it's what makes her such an interesting character and what made her so fun to write for.
BARLOW: It's interesting because there are a few ways that you can interpret this character. Is she a villain? Is she not? We don't know. You'll have to decide yourself.

But this new villain— I think her costume’s color scheme is pretty unique, I don’t think we’ve seen a villain use orange before? I like the little adornments in her hair and around her neck. I love a cape moment. I think her face is pretty and visually striking. I like that she’s going to have some connection with bats and I like that she’s a woman.
It's true that her color palette is not too common for villains. Personally, I wasn't too impressed with her design at first, but it's growing on me the more I see of it and the more things I notice about it. I like, for example, how her outfit mimics elements of a bat. In the image below, it's quite clear the furry thing she has around her neck resembles the hair the bat next to her has around its neck, while the cape reminds of the wings of the bat, and even has the same color scheme. She also seems to have traits or mannerisms of bats, like for example, how she's shown hanging upside down in the trailer. I expected her to be a bit more elegant and menacing and instead she seems a bit crazy, but I think that's an interesting choice.

Oh real quick, here is the logo for the new short from Walt Disney Animation Studios called “Versa”.
Though still no word on if this short will play with Moana 2 (or Mufasa: The Lion King) yet.
I think it's not a bad logo. I hope we get some official information about it soon.

It's so predictable that she's going to help them by the end.
I think the Japanese trailer may have already given that away. In the shot where Moana is sliding down a tunnel and Matangi is behind her, it doesn't look like she's chasing Moana, but probably going with her to help her. Plus, there's an illustration of that moment in a coloring book and they seem to have a friendly attitude in it.

The part of Maui dancing against blue background seem like if it`s going to be from another comical number like
You`re Welcome.
I think so too. It's probably from Maui's new song "Can I Get a Chee Hoo?," while the song at the end has to be Moana's new "I Want" song "Beyond." I agree it doesn't sound bad. The opening number has also grown on me a bit, so I'm a little more optimistic about the film's songs now.
