I was in CA for business last week and caught it too -- it was incredible. The best the film has ever looked and sounded. You have no way of knowing this is a 70 year old film. No complaints from me. It still had that "old classic" feel to it as well. Although I'm not bothered by the restorations like some people are, but I can't see how anybody could be dissapointed with this one.

Yeah, apparently it's available to rent right now in Mexico with the release date as previously scheduled. Maybe this is a good sign that ours hasn't been delayed but just thrown under everyone's radar for whatever reason.

Or is it possible Region 1 simply won't be getting this release? I mean it's happened before, and with the lack of news, not to mention the fact that Dumbo would be the first non-Platinum DAC to be put on BD...

It's possible but then why has it been advertised on domestic releases?

Region 1 (or A in case of Blu-ray) has already gotten it, as Mexico is the same region as the United States.

Yes, for DVD you're right... I was under the impression he was asking about a region 1 Blu-ray, but Blu-ray has different region codes than DVD... in Blu-ray Region A covers both the US and Mexico as well as the rest of the America's.

That being said, both the Blu-ray AND DVD will play on a US player...

The Blu-ray in Dumbo's Mexico release is Region A (which is all of the America's) and the DVD is regions 1 & 4.

From what I hear though, since the USA and much of Latin America use the NTSC format, one DVD should work on the respective DVD players. The Regions thing doesn't quite make that much sense. Regions 2 and 4 mix PAL and NTSC areas, whose DVDs wouldn't necessarily work on each other's DVD players. So, in short, a DVD (and most likely Blu-Ray, I presume) from Mexico would work on an American player.

Does anyone know of a good website to buy a Dumbo Mexican blu ray if the USA version doesn't pan out? With reasonable prices + shipping of course.

I've been looking around and have yet to find anywhere you can import also. So if anybody has any idea, it would be greatly appreciated !

For those who are interested in what the back of the Mexican Blu Ray roughly says in English:

TOTALLY NEW DIGITAL RESTORATION

- Completely restored with digital technology
- Disneyview: Expanded experience of the film

DISNEY ENHANCED HOME THEATRE MIX

- For the first time in High Definition 7.1 sound

DISNEY BEHIND THE CAMERAS

- Never before seen scene
- Never before heard song
- Taking Flight: The Realization of Dumbo
- The Magic of Dumbo: A sincere look at the most popular ride at Disneyland

AND MUCH MORE!

Here's hoping that they also carried over all the SD features from the previous release(s). Mainly, I would hope that they kept the featurette, the trailer, and the original Walt TV introductions.

Here's hoping that this will be hitting the U.S. sometime soon on Blu :)

EDIT:

I looked back in this thread and apparently these are the specs from the French/UK release of Dumbo:

* Audio Commentary by Pete Docter, Paula Sigman and Andreas Deja
* Taking Flight (26:56)
* Sound Design Excerpt: The Reluctant Dragon (5:40)
* Deleted Scene: Mouse's Tale (5:20)
* Deleted Song: Are You a Man or a Mouse (3:31)
* 1941 Theatrical Trailer (2:09)
* 1949 Re-Release Trailer (1:15)
* Walt Disney 1954 Television Introduction (1:04)

A direct translation from the French website:

Bonuses
- deleted scene: the Tale of the Mouse
- Song removed: Are you a Man or a Mouse
- The magic of Dumbo or the attraction of Disneyland
- Making of: Dumbo Takes Flight
- Presentation of Walt Disney TV
- Bands announcement of 1941 and 1949
- Audio Commentary with Pete Docter, Paula Sigman and Andreas Deja
- The sound design, with an excerpt from the film "The Reluctant Dragon"

and this is from the German specs on the disc:

-Disney View (+ Indroduction by James Coleman)
-Cine-Explore
-Featurette: Celebration of a masterpiece
-Art Galleries
-Silly Symphonies:
* Elmer Elephant
* The Flying Mouse
-Games:
* What do you see?
* What do you know?
