Thrilled about Anne Hathaway playing Selina Kyle / Catwoman, not sure how I feel about Tom Hardy as Bane... He's a fantastic actor, no doubt, but Bane's always been one of those super-cheesy characters I thought would never be portrayed in Nolan's Bat universe, like Mr. Freeze or Poison Ivy. Personally, I think he's less realistic or appealing as The Penguin, who Nolan has vowed to never use since the beginning. I don't know what to think of this.
Of course, all those 'super-cheesy' villians I just mentioned all happened to be in Batman and Robin, which is hands-down the worst Batman film ever made (and one of the worst superhero films period). Maybe that 14-year old sour taste is still in my mouth?
Cheers,
JM

I like both Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy very much, so this is great news! Bane is an interesting choice, but I think Nolan can pull if off.
What do people think about future Batman-movies without Nolan? I would watch them anyway, as long as Christian Bale are playing Batman. Well, I would probable watch them anyway, since I love Batman.

Bane has been in the comic, a very layered and intellectual character in the comic. He's not a big strong dumb brute. He's actually very smart. The difference is that Bane is made to be Batman's superior in physical aspect(on top of his good intelligence as well) which is why Bane is a big threat to Batman in the comic.

Do you know of Bane aside from B&R? I will give you the mask being a touch that they will have to explain or do away with but for the most part Bane is an incredibly intelligent individual who just uses steroids as well as his mind... Sounds plausible to me.
Edit: Darn. Super Aurora beat me to it.

If you watch the '90s animated series, both of these characters were done in a very un-cheesy way. Especially Freeze, who was extremely multi-layered and an almost sympathetic light. The whole "trying to keep his wife alive" plot was something that Paul Dini wrote into the animated series. And then, Akiva Goldsman and Arnold Schwarzneggar completely screwed an otherwise great villain up.
Ironically, Schumacher saw Batman & Robin as one big cartoon and said that he "directed it as such." Here's hoping he never directs an animated feature, because Batman & Robin lacked all of the sophistication of the Bruce Timm-produced show.

Siren already pointed out a reason as to why it's not really Arnold's fault on the previous page in case you missed it

Warner Bros. to Reboot BATMAN after THE DARK KNIGHT RISES; Christopher Nolan to Remain on as Producer
http://collider.com/batman-reboot-warne ... cer/83025/
Christopher Nolan has publicly stated that The Dark Knight Rises will be his final Batman film, and Warner Bros. is already looking ahead to the future of the franchise. As we reported last night, the studio is currently planning a Justice League movie for 2013 and Warner Bros. president Jeff Robinov tells Hero Complex that scripts are being written for Flash and Wonder Woman (the Wonder Woman project would exist separately from the upcoming NBC show). But most intriguing is what the studio plans to do with its marquee superhero, Batman:
“We have the third Batman, but then we’ll have to reinvent Batman…” says Robinov. “Chris Nolan and [producing partner and wife] Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is.”
A question worth asking is if Warner Bros. plans to tie Justice League to their new Batman. Will the actor who plays Batman in JL also play Batman in the new franchise? Or will Justice League exist in its own universe?

A Young Ra's Al Ghul Cast For Dark Knight Rises
http://www.enewsi.com/movies/190-19982.html
THR is reporting that Josh Pence who played Tyler Winklevoss in The Social Network will play the role of a young Ra's Al Ghul in the upcoming Chris Nolan directed Dark Knight Rises. For those with short memories, an older Ra's was played by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins.
THR says that sources have confirmed for them that Pence will appear in a flashback scene that takes place 30 years prior to the current movie.
Pence joins an all-star cast that includes Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Michael Cain, Morgan Freeman, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard.

Michael Shannon To Play Villainous Zod In Zack Snyder's 'Man Of Steel'
http://omg.yahoo.com/news/michael-shann ... teel/60294
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Zack Snyder has secured a villain for "Superman: Man of Steel."
"Boardwalk Empire's" Michael Shannon, who received an Academy Award nomination for his supporting role in Sam Mendes' "Revolutionary Road," has signed on to play the malicious General Zod for Sndyer's upcoming "Superman" reboot, Warner Bros. announced on Sunday.
"Zod is not only one of Superman's most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don't," Snyder said in a statement to Deadline, which was first to report the superhero casting news. "Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role."
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Shannon joins British actor Henry Cavill, who is playing Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams who has signed on to play Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner who will play Martha and Jonathan Kent.

--Sidekick for batman? I thought Nolan was against using this idea. Juno(look cute in that link btw) as robin could be homage to The Dark Knight Returns where Robin is a girl there. And why the fuck is Gotham city change to Pittsburgh now? WTF?

To be honest, wouldn't mind seein Jim Carrey returning as Riddler...course he'd have to bring realistic depth to the character, but then again...an unknown actor could work too, I mean Heath Ledger just came out of nowhere with his performance as Joker...
Why do people want Jokier to return with different actor?? we don't know if Nolan's gon'na include the extra footage of Heath's performance or not...
I thought Jim Carrey's Riddler had a realistic depth to it. You felt what Edward Nigma felt. His obsession with wanting approval drove him crazy, literally.

Hopefully this will have more of a "Batman" feel to it. I wasn't feeling the Batman universe in Nolan's films.

I would agree with you and Siren with that. I love the emotional depth Arnold showed in regards to Mr. Freeze's wife. The problem with the character the way it was written certainly doesn't lie with Arnold. I think his acting was fine in the film given the script he had.

Only thing that the current batman movie I find lacking is the city/background. Doesn't give me a Gotham City like the one Burton or the animated series created. Other than that, Nolan's are more Batman "feel" than you think since they are heavily influence adaptions of some of the well acclaimed comics like Year One, The Killing Joke, Arhkum Asylum etc

meh Riddler in Forever wasn't very convincing riddler

Which was ripped right out of Batman:TAS's version who reinvented the Mr. freeze storyline and character.

Liam Neeson Returns for ‘Dark Knight Rises’
http://www.fandango.com/movieblog/liam- ... Newsletter
Talk about bringing a trilogy full circle. Variety is reporting that director Christopher Nolan has brought back Liam Neeson for The Dark Knight Rises. While Warner Bros. had no comment on the casting, Variety is speculating that Neeson will be reprising the villainous role of Ra’s al Ghul and has apparently already filmed a scene in London where the movie is currently shooting.
Earlier last month, cryptic photos popped up on various websites of what appeared to be The Lazarus Pit, commonly used by Ghul for their restorative powers. Josh Pence was cast as someone who is believed to be a young Ra’s al Ghul while fanboy speculation pegs Marion Cotillard’s character as Sarah Essen, which could be revealed as a cover for Talia al Ghul, who figured prominently in the comics.
Interesting.....

Question: How does everyone here who hates "Batman and Robin" feel about the 1960's "Batman" series?
