And why do people get all gooey when Edward takes off his shirt? He has like... nothing there. It's like seeing the skinny, pasty kid who sat in the back of class making games to play on his TI-83 change in gym.

Because he is THE Edward from Twilight. Any other character name or movie with him in it would not have the same appeal to fangirls.

Patterson is nothing special to look at.

I'll have to agree. He's OK, but he's pretty vastly overshadowed by Taylor Lautner, which really reveals poor casting choices. The character that is supposedly super-hot is really not, while the actor who is very attractive is playing the "other guy." Of course, they probably wouldn't look very good the other way around. Lautner makes a gorgeous Native American, but he isn't much of a vampire. And Pattinson with a tan would probably look too silly to be taken seriously.... Not that Pattinson covered in glitter doesn't.
