Wouldn't it be better to have a Disney short, or in the case of Aladdin or The Little Mermaid, a single episode form their TV series, rathet than a remade song?
Personally, I like the idea of the Disneymania albums. I don't like every song on them, but some of the remakes are actually pretty good (I especially like Ashley Tisdale's "Kiss the Girl"). In general, whether we're talking about movies or songs, I often ask what's the point of remakes. For example, I enjoy both versions of "The Parent Trap"- they're my favorite live-action Disney films. I think that Disney could've used its resources to make a brand-new, original, feature film to have come out in 1998, but I enjoy the remake. Why would an artist remake a song? Because the artist likes a song and wants to make it "their own".
I'd rather have extra documentaries on the making of the films on the DVDs instead of music videos; I'm not sure how I feel about having just one episode of a TV show- I mean, I would understand the point of it, and it would be welcomed, but I'd rather Disney just release season sets of their TV shows, but that's another discussion.
In the long run, however, the music videos/remade Disney songs make Disney money- people will buy the Disneymania CDs and will download the songs, and, heck, some obsessed fans may buy the DVD just because their favorite musical artist has a video on it.
But, I think that it makes more sense to have the teen stars of the moment, who are already Disney employees, recording songs for the DVDs, if they're going to have anyone recording songs. As you said, who knows how much Barbra Streisand got paid; however, I think that, for "Snow White"'s Platinum Edition, Barbra might not have been a bad choice (as opposed to, let's say, No Secrets)- she's a legend, just like "Snow White"...her legacy will live on, versus if some random pop star of the moment sang the song (I'm thinking more in the terms of No Secrets and T-Squad)...
