Exactly. Blu-ray is a no-brainer, DVD... not so much. I think the biggest benefit on the DVD is having them all together on one disc.

Got this from Wiki:

Pixar Short Films Collection - Volume 1

Pixar has put together a collection of many of their short films for a DVD and Blu-ray release on November 6, 2007. The disc, titled Pixar Short Films Collection - Volume 1 includes the following shorts:

* The Adventures of André and Wally B. (1984)
* Luxo Jr. (1986)
* Red's Dream (1987)
* Tin Toy (1988)
* Knick Knack (1989)
* Geri's Game (1997)
* For the Birds (2000)
* Mike's New Car (2002)
* Boundin' (2003)
* Jack-Jack Attack (2005)
* Mater and the Ghostlight (2006)
* One Man Band (2005)
* Lifted (2006)

The disc also includes audio commentary on each short, a behind the scenes featurette, and several animation tests.

I picked up the Pixar Short Films Collection: Volume 1 today from Best Buy. I was really eager to add this to my collection, mostly because I still had not seen all the shorts yet. However, I just saw down and watched the 4 that I hadn't seen before, those being: The Adventures of Andre and Wally B., Luxo Jr., Red's Dream, and Tin Toy. Luxo Jr. has quickly become one of my favorite shorts, it's nice to know where the Pixar logo comes from; however, my favorite is still Knick Knack. I found it really awesome how the animators were able to give human characteristics to both the lamp and the unicycle from Luxo Jr. and Red's Dream respectively. There are not a lot of bonus features on this DVD; however, the "The Pixar Shorts: A Short History" is a rather good segment.

So basically if you have all the Pixar releases on DVD you have this collection to date?

I hope to get this for Christmas either on DVD or Blu-ray depending on whether or not I will get a PS3. Though I have most of the shorts, I would like to have them all in one place, and the audio commentaries and 20-odd minute featurette sound really nice, so I'll hopefully get it.

Same here, but you will get Disney Movie Reward Points lol. The shorts are pretty boring to me though. View your Bonus Features on your Pixar DVDs to check some out. :)

* The Adventures of André and Wally B. (1984)
* Luxo Jr. (1986)
* Red's Dream (1987)
* Tin Toy (1988)
* Knick Knack (1989)

Knick Knack actually was released on the Finding Nemo DVD. It was also played before the film in theaters. The others, however, have not been available prior to the release of the Pixar Shorts DVD.

"Tin Toy" and "Luxo Jr." were both on the Ultimate Toy Box and original Toy Story and Toy Story 2 DVDs. Only "Red's Dream" and "André and Wally B" are new to DVD, having previously been available on laserdisc and VHS.

Since I have:

A. The Toy Story laserdisc Box Set,
B. The Ultimate Toy Box Toy Story DVD set,
and
C. Every other Pixar film to date, I am probably not going to pick up the Short collection at this point...

I am especially disappointed that they chose to include the edited version of Knick Knack, they could have included both versions on this disc, maybe make the "big breasted" version available as an Easter Egg. That way, kids could watch the DVD (with the edited short) and the parents wouldn't get offended, but collectors could see the original short the way Pixar first intended.
