How do you guys think Ratatouille will do at the box office? With Transformers and Harry Potter coming out the following weeks, would it brew trouble for Ratatouille?

Transformers, I doubt it. A lot of people I know aren't really interested in this movie, including me. Harry Potter, maybe. With the book coming out the following week, it will slow down the ticket sales quite a bit for Potter and maybe the box office altogether.

Transformers will dominate. even if its just a mindless action flick, its the perfect summer blockbuster hit. ratatoulli will out do Harry Potter though. it has more family appeal I think. but there are other things to consider as well so who knows.

Edit: siren, Im not saying its a mindless action flick. just saying that hypotheticly it would still be a success money wise even if it was.

Transformers has old fans behind it. It has a long established fanbase. Established since the 1980s. Not just in the USA, but worldwide. A whole bunch of 20 year olds ready to be teenagers all over again. The previews are well recieved thus far. Its not a mindless action flick, its a well established storyline and characters that the fans have been waiting for years to see in the big screens. As kids they could never imagine it would look like that, that real. So believe me, Transformers has a good chance of kicking metal @$$ in the box office.

This is almost impossible, honestly. I agree about the family appeal - HP5 is quite darker and not so child-friendly - but you must not know HP fans very well if you think they won't all go and see... and see again... and again... and again the new Harry Potter movie.

I also agree that the new Harry Potter book is going to kill the boxoffice stone dead for something like a week! Let's face it, it's something BIG!

These are from left to right (I believe) Emile, Django, Colette, Remy, Gusteau, Skinner, Linguini.

I agree with Siren, growing up with Transformers and I'm sure others 80's kids grew up with this show and want to watch it. I know that Transformers: The Movie back in 1986 didn't do so well but it was because animation wasn't really meant for the big screen. Anyways I still think Transformers will make more money then both Harry Potter and The Simpsons in July. Remember Transformers comes out on July 4th. I'm also a big time Simpsons fan watching the show since the first season and haven't stopped watching it or reruns. I would probably watch Harry Potter 5 but it's last on my July top 3 list.

I think people are slightly overestimating Transformers' draw. I'm sure it will open big, but unless it's a good movie -- and remember, it's directed by Michael Bay -- I think it will fade fast, but not without earning a solid $150-$175 M first.

I do reiterate something I said elsewhere, that Ratatouille will have an uphill challenge at the box office. I think frankly even $200 million may be a reach for it, regardless of the critical favor Pixar is sure to win.

Harry Potter will inevitably be huge; though it will be interesting to see if competition takes away from it (even if it seems most of the big films are out before it) the way it did with the last summer Potter opening, three years ago. If everything goes right, this could maybe pass $300 M.

The Simpsons is a real wild card. The show averaged 8.6 million viewers last season and even if the movie is bound to attract those who don't go out of their way to see it each week (like me), I'd be surprised if it did much more than $100 M. I do think it would have been a bigger blockbuster were it released say 10-15 years ago, but even now it's obviously not going to lose money. TV-to-movie jumps interest me (much more than old TV shows being made into movies), so I'm hoping this does well, but I have my doubts.

I agree that it won't make more than $80-$100 M.

Technically, it's impossible for me to do so, as no TV channel here in Malta broadcasts it.

Ok, Ok ... I'm exaggerating. I have watched a couple of Simpsons episodes on the Italian TV Channels we get free-to-air here in Malta. The channel in question is Italia Uno, and it broadcasts The Simpsons on weekdays (dubbed in Italian) with the children's programming.

Despicable, no?

The Simpsons is replete with black humour and grotesque, tasteless gags. An adult will tolerate this, but a presume six year old kids were not Matt Groening's target demographic. It's bad for them.

I'm not going to watch it. Sometimes having a computer that doesn't load anything has its advantages: easily avoiding a lot of trailers.

Has anyone been to Toys R Us lately for new Ratatouille toys? I just came back from Target and they had none. They had a whole bunch of Transformers toys (yes, for the movie, not the cartoon) out. It's surprising because Transformers comes out the week after Ratatouille. Surely they would have stocked up on Ratatouille merchandise by now?

I think Ratatouille will perform solidly at the box office. Pixar's got a good track record, and families and kids will probably really be drawn to this as well. I know I can't wait to give them my money on opening weekend.

I love the japanese trailer, it's so pretty! It "feels" really different, y'all are right - i like that you get a little more look at the story, and the emotion behind it. I can already tell that I am going to LOVE remy and linguini's friendship.

And god the animation is gorgeous. All the chefs chopping and making the different foods looks so yummy.

My boyfriend and I are both rabid Pixar fans (we also did a bit of 3D animation in our classes, so it makes us admire them even more) and we decided to have a special Ratatouille evening: first the movie, then off to a great fancy restaurant!

As a Generation 1 fan (the 1980s series), I'm looking forward to the movie and worried about it at the same time. Everything after Beast Wars has been a downhill ride. Armada and everything after it was complete garbage in my opinion. Hopefully this movie rocks and brings the Transformers back to where they once were. Either way its sure to be a hit at the box office.

I think Ratatouille will do great in the theater. I'm not sure it will beat Transformers or Harry Potter, but it will be another Pixar hit. I'm really looking forward to seeing it.
