I think thats just a rumor so far.

Nope, you are wrong there. Tara Strong said so on her official Myspace page.

There ya go! But it could be that Sally Field is a rumour.

Yea, thats what I meant, that the Sally Field part was a rumor.

I'm not so sure Sally Field is a rumor. If you go to Kari Wahlgren's website (under July 06's news), it says:
Wahlgren is cast as Alana, the older sister to Ariel, in Disney's upcoming animated feature "The Little Mermaid III." The direct-to-DVD release starring the voice talents of Sally Field and Jodi Bensen is set to be released in 2007/ 2008.
http://www.kariwahlgren.net/news.html

It's just an assumption that Field's playing Ariel's mother because 1.) If there were a new villainess, they'd most likely re-use Pat Carroll (as they did for Morgana), 2.) The movie's said to be a prequel of sorts which, considering one of Ariel's sisters have been cast [a character who has been given no limelight whatsoever in the first two movies] and Melody isn't returning, is mostly confirmed and 3.) Sally Field just has a motherly voice and most likely wouldn't be called on to play a small part. But who knows? Maybe there's some other older non-evil female who'll come to play in TLMIII. Right now though, I'm betting on a mother.

As for the random hair colors, the mother herself was most likely a light-haired brunette. That way the blonde, brunette, and black-haired sisters could be linked somewhat back to her. And Ariel obviously got her's from Triton (which I think shows how much alike they really are). Of course, sometimes the grandparents and distant relatives have a part in this as well. Try having seven children some time, I'm sure you'll notice they'll have some varying hair colors, too.

I have to agree with Disney's Divinity. The mothers hair was most likely a light-haired brunette or another color and the red was resasive (not dominate) but when ariel was born both r & r come together for red hair. It is like in my family, my mom has brown hair and my dad has brown hair, but I have a redish brown hair and my brother has blonde hair. It all depends on genes. (stuff you should have learned in biology, the stuff you want to forget.)

Poody: just do a search on ebay "The Little Mermaid Dolls" and they should come up. That is where I found them all.

xxhplinkxx: I love the picture of the Royal family. Thank you.

Well, maybe not in the movies, but she did get an episode in the series. I wonder why theyve only cast Alana. Hopefully all the sisters make an appearance, but I wonder why Alana's the only one we've heard about.

Disney's Divinity wrote:If there were a new villainess, they'd most likely re-use Pat Carroll (as they did for Morgana)
Thats not necessarily true. I think Pat Carroll was reused for Morgana cause they were sisters and they could get away with them practically sounding exactly alike.

I only said that because I [painfully] pictured them having Ursula and Morgana's mother coming into the picture. And I still don't think Sally Field could pull off a villainess very well. Personally, though, I hope that there are no new villains. If they're going to do anything, bring Ursula back (or go back in time where she was still alive).

I'm afraid I've got them locked away in a trunk, under a stereo, in a room I can barely walk through at the moment, ha. With all the stuff I collect and being limited to one small room of my parents' house, it's hard for me to gain easy access to specific stuff. Plus, I don't have a digital camera or anything. I'd have to scan each cover individually, which would take forever because my comp is always freezing. However, if you search on Ebay.com, I'm sure you'll be able to see the Little Mermaid comic covers.

I think this fairly recent piece is the only time I've tried to draw Ariel's sisters so far. My only regret is not using their more recognizable hairstyles. I drew most of them by referencing their first appearances onscreen in the original film:

WOW!! Thats great! I love how you got all the characters in there!!

My only complaint is Ariel's arm XD

I think its cool that you used their performance head dress. Speaking of which, you know how when each of their names are said, they come out and their head dress like expands or whatever? It always annoys me that it cuts off Adella and Alana because it cuts to a shot of Triton when it was their turn to go...

Ha, yeah, a few people have said that. It's a perspective thing though, and when taken out of context, it is hard to realize. I wouldn't have drawn it that way, but that's how it was in that shot of the movie (that scene where she is swimming upward toward the camera) or whatever I was referencing when I drew that part, ha.

Yeah, that was annoying when trying to draw them too.

Ah, I think I see what you mean now! I though you were talking about the size of the arm, but I think you meant the direction of it. Without a live model, it can be easy to slip up on stuff like that. I had almost done something similar with a recent piece, but caught myself that time. Anyway, I've gone back and changed this one. Hope it looks right now, and thanks for the constructive criticism. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/41282192/

I'm not sure if this belongs in here because it's about Ariel's brother!

One of Ariel's sisters (Atina, in fact) was voiced by a man! How odd is that?

That was just something interesting I found out thanks to a friend of mine and I thought I'd share it.

But I wonder....who did Atina's voice in the TV series? Hmm...

Random--is it Attina or Atina?
