I second to what eric89 pick as number one.
That's should be the cover to The Little Mermaid: PE.
If your reading this Disney pick the right one.

[quote="eric89"]My choices:
1st Choice (I think Disney should REALLY consider this as the cover:)
I 'm sorry but I just can't see it. Is it only me?
But if it's what I think, yes, it's gorgeous!
An other good idea is Ariel in the Shell and all of her sisters singing around her and presenting her to the audience- a scene that never was in the movie because Ariel went exploring with Flounder.
Or they could an other one, Ariel in the rock and all the fish around her pointing to her, at the end of the song 'under the Sea". A scene that also never was, because Ariel was missing again. She had left with Flounder. Again! Isn't that funny?? ThAT fLounder guy is really a bad example for young children!!

This ones for me, Rodis and Aladdin from Agrabah. I still think the original movie poster takes the cake for artwork! There's so much more colour and includes way more characters. The rest of the stuff (like posted above) is undeniably beautiful but let's bring this one back into play. I definetly think the should use the original title style rather than the masterpiece/1997 title. It's a little too cartoony.

Yeah, that one is my favorite, the only change I might make is mabey taking Eric out of the picture so Ariel is more prominent.

I hope that in the cover for the Platinum release they put the caste like they did in that poster, because it looks really great

I thought everyone would be interested to know that there was a blurb abou the Little Mermaid DVD release in todays USA Today Life Section. There is nothing really earth shattering but it is still nice to see the word getting out already. The line about the marketing plan is just something else to add to the anticipation. I can't wait! Here is what is said:
Little Mermaid comes ashore on DVD
After seven years in the Walt Disney Co.'s vaults, The Little Mermaid will return to DVD this fall as a lavish two-disc "Platinum Edition." The 1988 film, winner of two Oscars, will arrive in stores Oct. 3 and be backed by a massive marketing campaign that will include a major push into licensed merchandise, with more than 2,000 new products in the works.

I expect The Little Mermaid's ad campaign to be very similar to Cinderella's. In the weeks leading to the latter's release, I kept seeing Cinderella promos everywhere. Various stores had large displays up, and my local Toys 'R Us had this MASSIVE one placed above an entire aisle of Cinderella merchandise. TV spots for the DVD where on virtually every channel, and many people I know who don't even keep up with Disney DVD releases were talking about it. I'm hoping the same is done for The Little Mermaid. Since that film is fresher in people's minds than Cinderella was, I think it has the chance of topping that release (and considering how well Cinderella did, that's a big deal). Does anyone have a sort of ranking of the Platinums and how they've done?

I honestly think the sales numbers on this are going to be huge (maybe even one of the best selling Platinums). Everyone has been talking about this as one of their most antipacted releases. It is a film that I know for me started my love of Disney as a kid. Put this together with it being a "Princess" movie and its more recent fondness in people's minds and you have a huge seller on your hands.

According to Video Business' numbers, as of the end of the year, Cinderella had sold 5.6 M units and Bambi had sold 5.0 M units. As of the end of their respective release years, Beauty and the Beast had sold 4.3 M DVD units (and 2.4 M VHS units), The Lion King had sold 7.99 M DVD units, and Snow White had sold 4 M DVD units (and 2.7 M VHS units). They don't have VHS units data for any of the other Platinum Editions or DVD data for the curiously underperforming Aladdin. I suspect that Lady and the Tramp may put up numbers a little below Bambi (had they pushed the Platinum name, I bet it would have sold more) and The Little Mermaid will perform somewhere between Cinderella and The Lion King, though that is a large gap.

I also think this is going to be even bigger than Cinderella's.
If that worked for Cinderella, that honestly I think people just associated the well known tale with Disney... This campaign will be even bigger. More so than this is going to be the last one of the PEs that's so popular among general public.

Yeah, The Little Mermaid will definitley be the 2nd best selling PE ever. We'll see how close it can come to The Lion King.

On Davis DVD, they reported that Disney has officially confirmed the October 3, 2006 release of
The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition (like we haven't known about it beforehand). There's a blurb that the film will be digitally mastered and restored with a new anamorphic transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. The set will feature commentaries, deleted sequences, making-of featurettes, and interactive games. The retail price is slated for $29.99 (very reasonable, if you ask me). No cover is out yet, although it will appear shortly.
So, this Platinum will hopefully be like the Platinum release of
Aladdin, with one commentary by John Musker and Roger Clements and the other commentary with the Disney animators. And maybe a hour-long documentary with plenty of deleted sequences.

since this is a newer movie, is there any word if they will be re-animating a deleted scene into the movie? or maybe even a song since The Little Mermaid will be coming to Broadway in a few years? i kinda wish they would, i really liked the other movies they did this for (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Pocahontas)

This topic reminds me of this cover we were talking about nearly two years ago:

I hope they don't reconsider this one. It looks a lot like the layout of the Snow White cover, but the artwork isn't the greatest. Though the guy in that link that is doing the cover has an amazing resume and the samples are awesome. I like the picture of baby Ariel and young, brunette Triton, hehehehe.
I think this will probably sell the same as Cinderella or better. A lot of people remember and loved this movie and with the VHS rereleases, more kids know it. Also, I think Ariel is the second most popular Disney Princess to Cinderella. Though, the kids who really really remember this movie when it first came out are either poor college students or young adults at their first real job. Would they have the money for nostalgia? Lol, I know I would since DVDs are mostly all that I spend my saved money on.

Actually, I think TLM won't sell as well as The Lion King or Cinderella. Heck, it may not even sell well as Bambi. The Lion King, Cinderella and Bambi had advantages, they all were released not only the first time on a Platinum, but for the first time on DVD. The Little Mermaid has already been on Gold Collection and some people will probably not see a difference and not by it since they already own the GC edition.

They didn't mention this, so I'm guessing the song won't be in the actual movie (it was probably written for the Broadway play exclusively). Disney didn't tamper with the film as far as I'm concerned (apart from cleaning it up and making it suitable enough for IMAX screens before the re-release was scrapped), as far as reanimating a deleted song and reinserting the scene back in the movie. I wouldn't mind if Disney fixed the hurried or unfinished animated cels in the original print of TLM with the redrawing technique, so we get an untarnished view of the movie.
Besides, the reinserting of a deleted song is unnecessary. It's pretty cool to see how it would've looked like when inserted back in, but these scenes and songs were cut out for pacing and/or story issues and drags the film down (particularly "Human Again" and "Minority Report"), in my opinion. If I want to see a deleted scene or song, I'd rather see it separate from the movie in actual storyboards and voice demos.
