sleeping beauty has 4 POP tabs.. disney has so many offers going on now...

Yeah...I'll need at least three of those four tabs.

1) Buy 3 Get 1 Free 2003, elligible purchase
2) VHS to DVD $5 upgrade rebate
3) DVD to HD-DVD $5 upgrade rebate when TLK is rereleased again in HD

I know there has been a lot of discussion about the re-animation of scenes, and Disney not including the original version of TLK on the DVD. However, today on tv, I saw a commerical for TLK and it said "includes both the original and new special versions of the film. . . " and it even showed a graphic of what looked like maybe a menu screen?? where you could select. I'm wondering, is the 'original' still with the reanimation, just not the new song, or is it really the original?? Does anyone know? Would Disney really promote this as an original release if it really wasnt? I think that would be really upsetting.

To answer your question, the so-called "original theatrical version" is simply the special edition without the new Morning Report song. So yes, all the re-animation and added details/colors is part of the "original theatrical version". This has been confirmed in numerous reviews of the DVD.

As you may conclude, Disney is using false advertising by calling it the original version. It's a total lie. Many Disney fans are upset about this, as well as BATB's DVD - where they did the exact same thing.

Unfortunately, Jack is correct.

Producer Don Hahn, Gordon Ho, senior vice president of marketing for Buena Vista Home Entertainment and USA today said this last month:

The original version of The Lion King, with no remixing, no tinkering and no new song, will also be included in the DVD.

"The purists out there can see the movie exactly as it was in 1994," Hahn says. "Those who enjoy seeing new innovations can sing a new song."

Of course, as Jack and all the reviewers have noted, the above quotes stated in the article are false.

Okay, thank you for clearing that up... I was so confused and that commericial looked so promising... I can't believe that they are putting that on TV, its like they want the general public to THINK that the 'original' is really orginial. I guess the way they look at it though, how many people (besides the ones on this website, as I have read ) are going to sit down and compare the old vhs to the dvd. Oh well, I guess it's better than nothing.

Sure, no problem. I'm thinking comparing the VHS to the DVD video. I know, that sounds odd. In the new film, the crocodiles in the "I just Can't Wait to be King" sequence are rounded. I don't mind having a new version that is restored and remastered at all. I wish that they kept their word and NOT enhance the "original" theatrical version. I'm disappointed.

well i don't know about you guys! but as soon as street date comes i'm calling Disney to complain! i don't think i want aladdin and the little mermaid Special edition and not have the original (have the LE DVD but i would like it anamorphic) so who's in with me?

And I suspect for The Little Mermaid, you'd like the original without all that grain!
