He raises some good points on this one. I love Wallace and Gromit and I did enjoy the movie. But i also feel they work better as short films. Also, the movie is a bit more upfront and in your face with some of its humor where the humor in the shorts was more subtle.

He's not going into the background info on these movies, so I'm guessing he decided to just give his opinion based on the amount of people correcting him on things from the last time.

Yeah, it's not really that great of a movie looking back on it (In, fact, it was just "okay" when I first saw it on DVD). I can see Doug is not a fan of the liar revealed cliche (he even mentioned it in a top ten list), so it's obvious he'd hate this film.

Now, let's see what he thinks of Flushed Away and Shrek the Third (which I know he'll hate).

I forgot Flushed Away was Dreamworks. I actually really enjoyed that movie. There was something missing that kept me from loving it, but the animation was gorgeous, of course.

(I haven't seen the Wallace and Gromit film, unfortunately, though I have it coming in a few weeks on Netflix)

Regarding Wallace and Gromit: I love this movie, but I agree that it does feel more like a movie made for the mainstream rather than the standard Wallace and Gromit audience. But it has so many funny jokes and clever moments I can overlook it all.

Regarding Over the Hedge: Agree 100% with him on this. The movie is just "meh". It feels more like a direct to video movie done by a random Canadian animation company than a theater lenght animated film made by a grand company. And watching these, anyone notice that Dreamworks is a master of the "liar revealed" story? I mean, Disney may not always be perfect and follow a pattern at times, but a lot of them are more original. I mean, Aladdin may have a bit of the liar revealed, but what makes it work is because: Jasmine is onto the lie from the very beginning, and when Aladdin is revealed it happens so fast that we don't get a moping and moaning scene, we just jump straight to Jafar torturing the Sultan and Aladdin.

Regarding Shark Tale: Yeah, this movie is really bad. What I find interesting is that with both Shrek and Shark Tale, Dreamworks made have committed the same mistake as Disney, and that let themselves be known as a certain type of animation company. At the very least they are trying to walk away from that and do more varied, better stuff, but I think some damage is done at this point, and it is all the fault of Shark Tale to an extend. But to me at least, the movie is so bad... it is good. It is a guilty pleasure of mine because it tries SOOOOO hard to be hip and edgy that it comes off as a parody of itself in the worst manner possible.

The main reason Aardman went with CG for Flushed Away was because they felt that it would be hard to do all those water scenes using their stop motion techniques (I believe the water effects on The Pirates was done with CG).

What a pity. I'm one of the minority who actually enjoyed "Shrek The Third". I thought it was a fun and entertaining film.

I also found it to be pretty mediocre myself. I also knew it would suck when it first came out. It just seemed so different from the first two films. I remember some of the jokes fell flat, even when they were in the TRAILER.
Needless to say I did NOT see the fourth film when it came out.

I liked the fourth one. I thought it went back to the formula the 2nd one had in my opinion

Personally, I thought it was rather uninventive, and had the feeling of it trying to drag a finished, overdone story being extended to a pointless extent. Humour-wise, Shrek 2 was light-years ahead.

It was a great improvement over the third one but that's not hard to get better than Shrek The Turd. My favorite Shrek film is the second one hands down. I thought Shrek Forever After was more character driven than Shrek the Third and Shark Tale and their other movies which impressed me.

One scene in the third Shrek that appalled me was the king's death scene. That was quite dumb and possibly the most distasteful scene I've seen in an animated film aimed at families I've ever seen in my life

I have to highly disagree with Doug on the Bee Movie. I hated it. For the reasons that he mentioned and then pushed aside, the story is messy and it's way too preachy and not subtle about it. He moaned about Ferngully not being subtle so how come Bee Movie gets away with it ? Because the flying animation looks pretty ??
