I'm pretty sure I found the first stills of the restored TJB set. They can be found here.

Or, for those too lazy, here are the minimized pics. (You can enlarge them if you go on the site, but I don't want to take up too much bandwidth. )

I'm pretty sure these are the real deal...all you have to do is compare these 2 pictures. The one on the left is from the Limited Issue, the one on the right is from the Platinum. Although, I have no idea how that plant popped into the "platinum" still found on the left...

Honestly, if this is what the restored DVD looks like, I think it looks amazing!! And I CAN'T wait!! :D :D

Watching Disc 1 of "8 Simple Rules" to take notes on what are good caps, and figured I'd do a couple from the Jungle Book trailer.

None of the movie clips match up with the caps from brotherbear, unfortunately.

brother bear thanks ever so much for that great images.

This is probably the first significant restoration.
Never before was there such a difference between the original and the new and improved version.
It just takes my breath away.

It looks like the widescreen image has more on the sides than the previous fullscreen release.

At Animal Kingdom on September 29, there will be a Annual Passholder only party in hohor of this DVD release. You'll be able to see some hard to find Jungle Book characters at the party.

I guess the old DVD was missing portions of the image on each side, because when cropped to 16:9 it looks a bit too tightly framed. That's why I really hoped they'd include a restored open matte version on the Platinum release as well.

Or.. if the old DVD did include all of the picture vertically, it would suggest the film wasn't shot open matte after all. Any ideas?

I think that, just like Lady and the TRamp, this movie was shot both in fullscreen and widescreen ratios. That would explain the "plant" that doesnt appear on the full screen version. It simply was shot 2 times, being one for home entertainment release and the other one for the movie theatres, just like lady and the tramp. And now they are finally showing us how it was really supposed to be showed! ;P

yay for widescreen jungle book!

How? There was no home video in 1967. or 1955.

I'm also worried the new edittion will get rid of inconsistancies with the xerox process, where lines that were not fully erased by the clean up artists were still inked.

Did anyone ever stop to realize that the two caps might be from different scenes, but they reused parts of the background/foreground? TJB is notorious for re-used animation.

And for the eleventy-billionth time to anyone who is new...

All the DACs from 1961 to 1977 (101 Dalmatians to The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh) were drawn/animated/shot in the 1.33:1 open matte ratio, and matted to theatres at 1.75:1. The Rescuers was the first done in 1.66:1, and The Fox and the Hound stands out as an enigma due to its VHS and DVD releases always being 1.33:1. So yes, while The Jungle Book was animated with "dual ratios" in mind (1.33 and 1.75), it's not the way that Lady and the Tramp was animated twice (in 2.55 for CinemaScope and in 1.33 for Academy).

My mom bought this movie for me when I was four I think (That would be 1990) I will have to double check when it was released last to check my age. Anyway, I loved it! I was born in Bangladesh and I'm adopted so my mom bought it for me so that I could sort of get a feel of my background early on. She used to tell me that the little girl at the end who Mowgli likes was me. :D

Well, they certainly aren't the same exact frame.
I still think the old dvd release did not include the whole picture, but was cropped a bit from each side. That's why the new DVD has more visible picture horizontally.

I tried to PM you to keep the board on topic but it wouldn't let me!

Yes of course I've seen all the season about 10 times. I have them on dvd and before they came out I have them on tapes that don't play anymore because they have been watched too many times. :D I have a lot of paraphernalia too.
