Well if they made a good release, you wouldn't be hearing it, would you?
dvdjunkie wrote:You guys should all go get jobs at Disney because it sounds like you are all qualified to just that.
Unfortunately we're all overqualified.
dvdjunkie wrote:Unless you are qualified to get a job at Disney and have applied and interviewed for the job, just quit the whining and enjoy the movie.
Darn it, and here I thought we lived in a country with a free market and where free speech was a protected right. Apparently this is a country where consumers don't determine a companies success and therefor forfeit the Constitutional right to bitch about a product offered by a company.

I'm watching the film now, and I honestly think it looks very good! It's not perfect, but it looks much better than it ever did on DVD.

^WTF? Is that an original production error stemming from the low budget or is it the result of a cheap restoration?

It's something that was originally there, it'd have to be. The argument I suppose would be if this proves that the movie should be matted more or if it's just a blooper.

For those worried about the DVDs being stacked on top of each other in the Blu-ray combo pack, there's always the option of getting the Blu-ray combo pack in the DVD packaging. After reading about the Blu-ray packaging, I decided to take a chance on the DVD packaging, and lo and behold, the DVDs have their own spaces not stacked on each other, and of course the Blu-ray had its own space too.
Of course, that's also assuming that you don't care about all your cases being uniform in size.

Well, you kind of have to watch the DVDs if you want to watch all of the bonus material...
I usually end up watching the DVDs in the combo packs. I don't have a Blu-ray player in each room, and they are very useful for me.
Stacking them ends up with scratched discs, or loose discs, etc... Its a very poor decision on Disney's part to release the combo like this. I'll probably end up getting this release later, and just buy a 3 disc case to replace it with.

Is that exactly from the Blu-ray?

Yes. A poster on Blu-ray.com (where I found the pic) compared it to the DVD and said the line was at the top of the frame.

Oy vey, so the black smudge line, that from what I've seen in clips, is print damage that is pretty obnoxious, and now there is bad framing where the animation was clearly supposed to be cut off, exposed within the matting? Talk about a lazy restoration.
The only chance I would have looked over the 2 move collection crap would have been if this film got glowing reviews for it's HD restoration of the first film. While the film may look "fine" or even better then the dvd release, it does not warrant (in my eyes) for an upgrade. It will get, however a phone call and email complaint from me.
Putting the sequel (or midquel) with this was turn off enough, but it looks like they gave a better restoration to The Black Cauldron than this. I'll wait another five years rather than spend money on an unsatisfactory product.
On that note, I am looking forward to Dumbo and The Lion King.

Could somebody post a screenshot of the DVD of that scene to compare? I don't have mine anymore.

Wow, I simply cannot believe how much of the bottom is cropped off. I couldn't get the size to match up any closer without stretching the image but you get the idea:
Here's a comparison without the animation; click on it to view the full-sized version:

Geez!! I have been unable to find that particular scene on my Blu-ray version of this movie. Where did it come from, or is this just another subversion of someone who thinks that they no more than the folks at Disney?
You so-called critics need to lighten up and just enjoy what is presented to you. You have way too much time on your hands to be looking for things like this.

As already stated in this thread, the Blu-ray screencap was found on Blu-ray.com; here's a direct link to the post if you're interested in seeing it:
http://forum.blu-ray.com/5057401-post512.html . . . I took the DVD screencap earlier this morning because Flanger-Hanger asked and I was curious myself.
The line at the top is commonly seen in cels of course, but it's obviously intended to be cropped off in the final film. Which means whoever was in charge of framing it screwed up. I think they should do a disc replacement in a similar fashion as what was done with the first release of the Back to the Future 2 DVD's, which also had a
framing issue. But because this is only The Fox and the Hound and not something like Pinocchio there won't be much of an uproar, so I doubt Disney will care.
dvdjunkie, it seems rather odd that you're getting so worked up over these criticisms when your signature says
"The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!"

dvdjunkie, sorry but Hell to the No! The above comparison by
enigmawing is ridiculous and Disney needs to be called out for their shitty matting of this release.
Telling adults to lighten up and just enjoy what is presented to them is remarkably unsophisticated. Thank God you don't work in Disney costumer service. Just because you don't have observant eyes when it comes to this stuff, doesn't mean the rest of us have to smile and say "oh well"
If Disney is going to charge money for something, their loyal consumers have every right right to voice their disapproval of the products for sale if they fall below standards, and a LOT of people are complaining about this release on different forums and reviews, so it's not just a handful of "unreasonable fankids".

Oh and enigmawing, thanks for making that comparison. I've copied it and will attach it my email to Disney on this subject.

No problem, let's hope it helps with a disc replacement or something.
