Am I the only one who feels that the only reason we're even getting this on blu-ray this year is because of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee? Do you think Disney is trying to tie the release of this film with that celebration, considering the Great Mouse Detective contains a Queen's Diamond Jubilee as a major plot-point? (Queen Mousetoria in the film's case)
-I'm not complaining, but I can't help but feel the two are connected in some way.

So, they are releasing this in the US in celebration of the UK Queen's Diamond Jubilee?

^Never underestimate how crazy some Americans are about the royals. (Remember how apeshit our country went over the Royal Wedding? And Disney DID release some of the Princess films with new packaging to commemorate that event)

they did? I only new about Cinderella Royal Edition in the UK. I just don't see the point of releasing it in the US and not in the UK. it doesn't make sense. It would make sense if they released it the opposite way round, first in the UK with a promotion similar to the one done with The Princess Diaries in the US, and then in the US

They just re-issued some titles with a new "royal" slipcover:

Indeed. And lazy and such an obvious shameless cash-in.

Not sure if it's considered off-topic or not, but I saw this on tumblr...the new villains Vinylmations! Look who made it in:
I squeed when I saw him! Frollo and Gaston also have ones coming up, too. But does anybody know when these will be available? I have no experience with these Vinylmations outside of seeing them on Disneystore's website and ebay...I've never wanted any before this.
