I think you're right. As more and more of what Disney considers to be their "less popular" titles are released, I think we'll see quite a few more films with The Fox and the Hound Blu-ray picture quality. Is it perfect? No, but is it horrible? Not in my opinion and I can live with it.
I'd love Disney to do a full-blown restoration on each of the DAC films, but we all know how likely that is.

Sorry, Discord aside, I surely hope those aren't the only features the Blu-ray will get. Compared to Disney's Diamond/Platinum Editions and other films, the Dark Age films seem to get the short end of the stick in terms of bonus features, especially a practically hour-long documentary, ESPECIALLY in The Black Cauldron's case.

Do you all think that Disney will just re-use the Mystery in the Mist Edition's DVD cover-art over again for the blu-ray, or will we get new art? The reason I ask is, unlike the Treasure Planet, Home on the Range, etc., releases that have all been announced and all retain their former cover-art, this one doesn't have any yet.

My guess is they'll just recycle anything at this point.
I mean, they're advertising Home on the Range and Treasure Planet with the 2003 era dvd trailers. Good Lord.
They're just dumping these at this point.

This is a poster from the 1992 theatrical re-release, I believe. I wish they would use something like this as the cover-art.
(WHY doesn't Disney ever use their gorgeous posters as DVD/Blu-ray covers? Instead of stuff like this, we get fugly ass clip-art looking shit like Beauty and the Beast's blu-ray!

I miss the times when the villain was in the background or somewhere above the rest of the cast. I loved these layouts

YES. Exactly! That was always my favorite part about the posters and old VHS covers when I was kid: the villain looming over the characters menacingly.
I hate that the villains aren't even ON most of the artworks anymore. I'm sure there are kids who were like me and fancied the villains, and they're really being left out by Disney these days.
(And Professor Ratigan is, obviously, one of my most favorite, so of course, I LOVE this poster to death!)

They would have to recolorize a little bit, but it could work.

What makes you say that? I would buy a DVD with this cover as is... I think most people would buy it over the most recent one we got.

^I'm just saying it looks faded. Posters in 92 were generally faded in color. Not as a practice, but as a side-effect of the printing process.

So this isn't even a new release, it's just an extremely delayed blu-ray edition of the Mystery in the Mist Edition released more than 2 years ago...
I suppose I'm not all that surprised. That's basically all that Home on the Range and Treasure Planet's Blu-ray releases are as well.

I have mixed fillings about this. Obviously the extras will be the same as the Mystery in the Mist's edition. What worries me though is the video quality. I'm not too fond of the previous DVD. The coloring seems too saturated, clarity is minimal and details are lost
Hopefully the Blu-ray will amend the clarity issue, but the rest... :/
Mystery in the Mist DVD - DVDizzy review
Sadly, not all of the original DVD's special features have been preserved here. The thematically kindred animated shorts Clock Cleaners (1937) and Donald's Crime (1945) are gone and not replaced by any other classic Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck cartoons. (Clock Cleaners apparently accompanied Detective in theaters.)
More objectionable, a scrapbook holding Great Mouse Detective concept art, storyboards, production photos, and a poster is also lost. I can understand a studio not wanting to invest time or money into digging up or producing supplemental material, but failing to drag and drop a worthwhile file from an old DVD is rather inexcusable. It's not as if the 47 images were life-altering or the reason to make a purchase, but even those who disregard extras would surely prefer getting the tiny behind-the-scenes gallery over not.
