That's why I keep my disc under lock and key!

I have five younger siblings, so stuff like that happens to me alot. And while I don't like it if people touch my DVDs without permission, I don't throw a fit or anything if they do.

As far as lending DVDs out, I do it all the time. And while it does get me slightly irritated if my DVDs come back all scratched up, it's not a huge deal.

I have this certain friend to whom I don't like to lend him my movies. The reason? I never see him often and I get my movies back probably a couple of months after.

I don't mind that he borrows my movies, I care less when those movies are the ones that I watch not too often. But I start to feel this anxiety whenever I'm looking at my collection and I don't find them.

For the most part I usually don't lend my favorite ones. Altough right now I'm suffering a LOT because my best friend has yet to give me back RED DRAGON. And given the fact that all 3 of the Hannibal Lecter movies are sacred to me, it gets on my nerves. I'm tired of asking him for it. I lost count on how many times I have done so. And it is especially frustrating when once I had this game of his and he was like that to me. Asking me everytime for it. And now that he has it he still needs to give me back my movie. He doesn't know where he put it. And altough I know he'd pay for it if he doesn't find it... I WANT IT NOW!

What do you guys do in a situation like mine? When a friend of yours have your movie and you have to keep on asking him/her for it forever?

Yes, all of you are not over reacting because in my household I'm the youngest and I keep all my DVD's in my room. In the past my older brother broke some of my Disney DVD's relax I called and they replaced the DVD's. I have them in my room in a bookshelf and it has a lock that I have a key too open it with. I have to hide them all the time so someone won't take them away from me. My family have to ask permission before they could use it and the reason why is because they never take care of the DVD's.
After I watch a Disney DVD I lock it right away before someone touches it. These DVD's are something to me they are not priceless they have a value so I have to take care of them.

Why can't they just leave my DVD's alone?

I'm the same way whether it's a fav. book of mine, or DVDs. I just get mad, cause to me it's like that person doesn't have enough respect for me to respect my property

I never lend anything out, but once I came home and saw my mickey mouse in living color DVD in the living room, (nearly died of shock btw). When I asked my Mum, she said she hadn't played it because she thought it was a VHS. what with the case being double, and she hadn't looked properly when she picked it up. And because there is only a VCR in the living room she hadn't used it! Whew! Mad bitch slapping session, narrowly avoided!

Another story that's slightly off topic. I own a first edition book copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and it was in perfect condition, never read. So anyway I go out of town for a couple of weeks and my Dad decides to lend it to my 6 year old cousin.

So when I get home I notice immediately there is a space on the shelf where it used to be. So anyway I asked my Dad where it was and he told me what happened.

The next thing I Remember is regaining consciousness 4 hours later in hospital on a drip and life support!

Anyway I didn't get it back for 3 weeks, and when i did the cover was scratched, there were greasy finger marks all over the pages, there was ink on half the pages Where a pen had leaked!

So in short:

Value before lending: £250+

Value after lending: £0.03p

I don't have any DVD's (or many videos) that anyone else likes, so I don't really have a problem. Even if I did have ones they liked, they'd be free to use them, as long as they treat them with the same care I do.

My books, however, are off-limits to EVERYONE except myself-no one seems to understand how I don't like the covers bent or the spines cracked.

The thing is that there are most people out there that aren't DVD aficionados or know of movies and don't realize that:

1.DVD's are expensive

2. There are extremely delicate and that goes on par with the DVD player. There are some with the lens so sensitive that just because the disc has a little dust on it the player won't read it well.

3. Most movies out there, like Disney for example, are out for a limited time only and then they go out of print. So even if the person would pay for the movie that doesn't do anything if you can't get that Special Edition anymore.

*claps* Well said EGJ. Most people think DVD's aren't worth crap because they never buy them, they're always busy borrowing yours!

Yep. People should realize that most movies out there can't be bought at the same price of the $15 or less that the Wal Mart selection has.

I only have one copy of each of my dvd's and some I haven't even taken out of the wrapping as I want to keep them in pristine condition. So far nobody has invaded my collection. I was midly annoyed when my niece opened one that was delivered when i wasn't home but it wasn't rare or expensive....just a new release. She's only 4 so it wasn't entirely her fault. Certain adults (ie her mother!) should never have given it to her to 'play' with! Play? Eh?

Having said that.....if she'd touched my treasures she'd have had her arms ripped off!

Now ripping her arms off is kinda obsene. I mean she is just 4 she doesn't know better. If your going to rip anybodys arms off it should be her mother dearest.

They're JUST DVDS. If you care so much more about them than your family, why not just put them in a safe deposit box in the bank?

I don't think anybody here care about their DVDs MORE than their own family, they're just mad that most people that borrow their DVDs to don't really care good care of them. I don't care about my DVDs more than my own family. Most people don't know how expensive DVDs are. Seriously, who has twenty bucks every freakin' week to go out and buy new DVDs?

I'm the same way with my DVD's, compulsive obsessive about every little detail! My ex-girlfriend was watching Jaws one night while I was in my room typing up an overdue school essay, and when I was cleaning up the living room the next morning, I noticed she got fingerprints all over the disc - I went postal! I made a rule the next day that she has to come and ask me to physically remove any movie from my shelf that she wants to watch and literally insert it into the dvd player for her and press the play button. She thought it was funny at first and would always try to sketch me out by walking up to my shelf and moving her hands around everywhere and acting dumb, I'd seriously get in defensive lineback position ready to rush her and take her ass down! After a while, she got so mad she just straight out refused to watch any of my movies, hahaha, victory!!!

Seriously though, I spend 15 minutes in retail stores when I'm shopping holding two of the exact same, identical DVD's in each hand inspecting every last possible insignificant flaw, even checking to see which cover slip is more accurately aligned so that they dont get torn from removing the secirity stickers... I'm always getting strange stares from employees who must be thinking, what a damn weirdo!

If anyone ever bent or damaged one of my slipcases, I'd go Michael Douglas D-Fens on their ass!

I like to defend my collection to, but not that much. You know you guys, I don't like people really borrowing my dvds.

And what you said Statshone, now that was pretty mean, your own girlfriend I mean dude. Don't you have any love or respect for the girl man ? I mean not letting yur own girlfriend use your dvds.
