The director and the producer talk a bit about the announced cast members in the press release:
Set in a suburban fantasy world, Disney•Pixar’s “Onward” introduces two teenage elf brothers who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there. “At Pixar we try to create stories that come from some kind of personal truth,” said Scanlon. “This film was inspired by my own relationship with my brother.”

According to the filmmakers, they’ve assembled a dream voice cast to help bring key characters to life.

• “Chris brings equal parts huge heart and fantastic humor to his character,” said Rae.

• “Tom has an infectious charm and sincerity that makes you root for him in every character he plays,” said Scanlon.

• “There is no one funnier than Julia,” said Scanlon, “but she also brings a warmth and loving side to her character.”

• “Octavia can do it all,” said Rae. “We’re especially excited about the depth as well as humor that she brings to her character.”
Tom Holland also shared the news on his Instagram account.

It's true that there are some similarities between the logos, but the Pocahontas one seems made of wood to me, while the other seems made of iron or stone. The font is also different, the Pixar one looks more like a medieval/fantasy typography to me. But I'm not an expert in that, so I could be wrong. Anyway, it's a pretty disappointing logo for a Pixar film. Their logos are usually more creative.

I'm really excited for this movie, though. And what a cast! It looks like the lineup for a new Avengers film! Now seriously, I think Chris Pratt and Tom Holland have plenty of charisma, so hopefully their characters will benefit from that. By the way, I assume they are voicing the two leads, but I think it hasn't been confirmed which character each actor is voicing.

Im really looking forward to this one.
That said, its frustrating that we know more about the plot for this, which is coming out in 2020, than we do for Frozen 2. :| I really hope we get some new substantial info about Frozen 2 before the end if the year.

Remember how bad the marketing was for Frozen 1? We knew more about that feature via leaks than anything officially released by Disney

Got to give Pixar a lot of credit. They know what they want to do after Toy Story 4, so well prepared. Can't say the same for WDAS, no official announcements after Frozen 2. It seems that after Gigantic was canned, so was ALL original thought

WDAS' feature will be released on November 2020. They might announce it in summer 2019.

Is it me or are they just using the Frozen font?

Other than a Wrecked Princess feature & Zootopia 2, what else will they do? Do they even want to do anything original?

I must say that I find the logo quite appealing. I can see the resemblance to those from Pocahontas and Frozen, but it's still a nice logo. As for the synonpsis, I do like the fantasy-aspect of it, like the elves and such, but I don't like the blending of the modern elements. It seems bizarre and off-putting.
And yes, though it may be a shallow notion of mine, this project reminds me of Brave. Though it of course brings back the fuzz surrounding Brave not being inventive enough and just being a compromised Princess movie within a Pixar property (let's face it guys, since Brave was a Pixar property, most people expected it to be more inventive than it was, since that's something that Pixar fans expect from Pixar).

I personally like that. It's what makes this movie original in my opinion.

By the way, I've noticed that the logo for the provisional title they gave the movie already featured these cracks (I'm not sure this is the right word, but I hope you'll understand what I'm talking about) around the edges of the letters.

Yes, there's a steel-like texture and thicker lettering but the carvings around the letters and the stylization of the "A" is too similar for my taste. Regardless, the logo gives off a hard fantasy vibe which doesn't bode well with the subject matter. Isn't Pixar's movie supposed to be a contemporary, suburban fantasy? That's not reflected in the logo.

Good eye! I hadn't noticed that before.

The mushroom houses sounds like something from the Smurfs.

Onward is the first new Pixar movie to be announced following the departure of Pixar founder John Lasseter in the wake of misconduct and inappropriate behaviour claims.
Considering it takes at least five years from greenlight to release, and the movie is just one year and three months away, it is safe to say Lasseter has been involved in the movie during its early stages and was the one who greenlighted it in the first place. This is also true for some of the other projects at Pixar. Only the movies that has been greenlighted by Pete Docter (and by Jennifer Lee at Disney) can be called true post-Lasseter movies. He went for a certain types of films, so it will be exciting to see which projects the new bosses will pick.

Yeah, that's true. I think it should've been a mixture of both fantasy and contemporary elements, like the film itself. Well, some Pixar logos, such as the ones for Inside Out or Coco, have changed before the films were released, so I hope this isn't the final logo.

Yes, and by the way, that article is wrong. Onward was announced before Lasseter's departure, at the 2017 D23 Expo. What has been revealed now is the title and part of the cast.

I'm kind of surprised it isn't Michael Giacchino again.

^Me too. I prefer Michael Giacchino to them, but I also liked their work in The Good Dinosaur, and I'm glad they've been given the opportunity to score another Pixar movie.

Of course there'd be news for Pixar's Onward, but Walt Disney Animation Studios "Dead Silence".

I'm actually kind of glad that Michael Giacchino won't be scoring this. I've usually found his scores to be kinda meh, so I'm glad that it wille have a different composer. At least the score for The Good Dinosaur was one of the perks of that movie.

Same ^^ Even the designs of the backgrounds are very common. I was expecting something more fantasy territory.

But I like the way you can identity straightaway what character is being dubbed by Tom Holland and which one is being dubbed by Chris Pratt! ^^
