I totally feel what you're saying about that. It's been a source of stability for me, too. I've been here since middle school--and I'm graduating college in May! UD's helped me deal with a lot of issues over the years, actually. The whole thing's very depressing.

Here are two other (mostly non-Disney) forums I visit:

Television Without Pity
Survivor Sucks (has sections on most everything--I don't watch Survivor)

But they're mostly no-holds-barred kinds of websites, so I guess...beware? Take a grain of salt, too.

Why doesn't someone just create a free (or very cheap) forum as a continuation of this site.. Members who wish to stay apart of this community would be able to migrate to the new site. It wouldn't have to be anything fancy, and everyone would have the opportunity of staying together as a community.

Personally I'd prefer this as to just a bunch of us moving to a larger community. I'd feel like this group of people on these forums would lose its identity, so to speak.

^ That's a pretty good idea. I know Proboards offers free and extremely easy to set up forums. So if the site does go down...

There's one site that's already set up and can definitely use some fresh blood. Here's the address:

I agree. And not only would we lose what we had here, we would lose ourselves amongst all those new people.

I say a forum created by us would be better. But we must all come to an agreement, we must all talk about it. EVERYONE. Otherwise we will end up splitting into different directions, like three different Post-Sitepocalyptic UD forums...

Even Luke perhaps should weigh in...Luke?

That would certainly be difficult, but to an extent I concur. Does anybody here have enough expertise to construct UD II?

You can create one for free here, absolutely no experience necessary.

Thanks for the link, Scarred4Life. :)

I think it would be a good idea to create a UD II on proboards.com. Who agrees?

Well I was hoping for a better site than that...

There's a certain someone here who said they do know a lot about html and could possibly create a better site more like this one...doesn't Goliath know them?

I agree. I know nothing about website-building or maintenance, however, so don't look to me for any technical support. I would want to chip in financially, though --maintaining a forum is not for free. Or maybe somebody could find some sponsors? Maybe you can create a new forum, Heartless? We'd also need some moderators, too.

@ Disney Duster: I don't think creating a new forum is high on this person's priorities list right now --and I agree. Maybe proboards doesn't look that fancy, but I'd settle for anything. So: good idea, Alexa! :)

I do have some experience in creating forums - I have managed one before a couple years ago. I believe I (or another person) could create one that actually looks very similar to these boards, with the majority of the same features, using a free program. Of course, creating an accompanying website (such as a "replica" DVDizzy.com) is not something I could do right now, and I have very minimal knowledge of html.

Here is what I can personally offer.. If enough people show interest, I can look into creating (and managing) a forum. This could even just be something like "transition forum," until a more definitive location or solution is founded. The forum would probably look similar to how these boards are set up (although I would probably organize everything better). In this case, we can all have the opportunity to simply move to a new forum but retain the same community. Unfortunately, as of right now, all posts on this board would be lost (which would happen any way) - but I still think that creating a new, personal community would be better.
Disney Duster wrote:Well I was hoping for a better site than that...

I agree.. I would love to have a really awesome looking forum too. But, unfortunately, format and looks are not the priority right now. If this 'siteocalypse' is truly happening, then time is of the essence. We need to make a decision soon... Like I said, I'm fairly certain that I create a forum with a similar feel to this one. I'll have to check on that, but will let all of you know.

If people are serious about this, I would definitely look into personally creating and maintaining a forum. This is a great community and would hate to see everyone split up. In the meantime, I'll look around and try to find an appropriate server in case this comes into fruition.

I'll support it. But make me a mod. LOL

As for forum making, why not use V Bulletin? I find them be great forum design with better and more smiley, having reps and negs, better encode uses etc.

 Mods will be discussed after we have determined that we are in fact going through with the new forum plan. And if this new forum is confirmed, I'd definitely volunteer to work on it and maintain it. Your name popped into my head immediately at the though of mods, SA.. but to be fair, I think determining mods will be done with some input from the ultimate disney forum members.

Just to be sure, because I still am not positive.. is it certain that the site and this forum will be gone in the near future? If so, is there a timeframe we have?

VBulletin would be great if someone was willing to pay for it, lol. I've been looking at and testing a bunch of free programs, and all of them have nice designs (more creative, too) and the same functions as here.

Right now, I really just need to get some more input from you guys.. should I go ahead and create the forum, so you guys can give me some feedback? Should it be under the name Ultimate Disney or a new name? Would you rather do something else?

I support it! I was just getting settled in here, and it makes sense to have an "escape pod" set up in case of Sitepocalypse. As for the name, I'm not attached to it, but I'm sure other members are. To maintain our identity, it might be a good idea to keep it. Personally, though, I wouldn't mind a new name.

I hope this new one has a spoiler tag unlike this one that lack one.

I a test wouldn't hurt, like you could delete or move the "test site" later if it doesn't work out, than why not? But I would not do it until we have more people on board and more discussion. I mean, everyone signing up for a "test site"...I dunno.

We should also probably vote on forum moderators. I feel weird when moderators are people that I have quarreled with before and seemed to not like me. I mean you even said "you have no idea how much I dislike you" and I wouldn't want you to be a moderator to me even if I have grown to like you more as time has passed. I'd feel more comfortable with people that have been very neutral, peaceful, and nice all this time, like Amy or Enigmawing, those kind of people. Even though you have proven to be better over time, like I said I like you more now.

I also think the site name should both reflect the old name but not be the same name, because Ultimate Disney is Luke's name, we cannot take it from him. It could be Definitive Disney or Ultimate Forum for Disney or something like that lol.

I agree. Both inline spoiler tags (where you can put your cursor over it) and the hidden box spoilers are cool.. I'll look into those features.

Of course. I'm not going to put the time and effort into creating the forum without the approval of the majority of the people. I want to make sure this is something that the majority of the community is on board with. If this is the case, I'd be happy to go ahead and start work on the forum so that I can get in as much feedback from everyone as possible.

As for the moderators, I agree that you all should give input on who you think it should be. However, as much as you'd consider it to be more comforting to have more 'neutral' moderators, I'll have to disagree in saying that its a big factor in determining mods. The point of mods isn't really to please the members. They are there to keep order and keep things tidy with good judgement. Just because one member doesn't like them, or vice versa, shouldn't be enough reason to not grant them mod status in my opinion..

I am offering my services, my time and my effort in order to keep this community going. I've grown to connect with it quite a bit. I'd hate to see its demise.. To say you wouldn't want me as a moderator when I am offering to create and manage the site is quite appalling to me. I see no one else volunteering to do so. If someone else would rather take over and create the site, its perfectly fine by me. The only reason I am willing to take it into my own hands is because I believe a new forum would be a better fit in this situation. I have a 'vision' of this new forum, so to speak. One that is more functional, one that is more eye-catching, and one that is more organized. Like I said, I want this community to continue to thrive, and until we can have a permanent location, perhaps a temporary forum will do.

I was asked if I was capable of creating the forum, please remember. I am not trying to take over in anyway... I would like this new site to feel very similar to the way things are here on a community level.

And thanks for the opinions on the name. I was hoping to give it a rename, but wasn't sure if people wanted to keep the previous name for whatever reason.

That's exactly what I was thinking, tbh. I like people who are more neutral (Definitely enigmawing! Or someone like Jay, Scarred4Life, Wonderlicious, etc.), who aren't going to abuse their power and ban/suspend people because they don't like them or their opinions. Otherwise, it'd just be a community for a certain niche of UD.

@Heartless: You seem to be the most ambitious when it comes to this and also the member with the most expertise, so...Heartless for President (of the new forum)! :P If it comes to it, then a temporary forum would be fine in my opinion.

You asked at one point when exactly the site would be closing. According to Luke, it will close around early October... :( And one could say it's already early October, so we have to start working on this now.
