I actually just thought of something.. I wonder if Cauldron wasn't pushed back to prepare it for BD release? It could explain it because not much was released this year. Maybe we will get this and Cauldron on blu-ray? and then we'll get Aladdin, Hunchback, and Hercules at the end of the year? I mean we are getting Cauldron, Mouse Detective, Dumbo (and Fantasia?). Who says we couldn't get Hunchback, then Hercules, then Aladdin and then Beauty and the Beast?

Don't get your hopes up too much Nomad, TBC is Disney's disowned child, I'm not sure they'd care too much to give it the restoration that it deserves. :(

In your mind, would these releases be Blu-ray only, or also DVD releases?

So when I read this on the front page today my first reaction was YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Then my mom was like"stop yelling" Anyway GMD is my 3rd favorite DCA so Im pretty happy about this! Then I thought what happens if it ends up like Oliver? Then I continued thinking and thought about TBC and how its getting an actual upgrade with the announced bonus features. So basically I think it go go either way, hopefully its the bonus features way. Anyway Blu or not I'm buying, unless they downgrade everything (even picture) then no.

I'm betting these will be limited editions, a little less so than the Treasures, because there are three types of DVD buyers in this world: those who are fans, those who have been wanting to see the movie, and those who want to cut costs by not having to pay a babysitter. Considering many of the latter two have for several months now had the chance to buy Hercules/Hunchback, and have vastly ignored them, they're not going be interested in Special Edition with bonus features they'll never watch. If these do make BD/2-disc DVD, they'll be in much more limited release than previous platinums were or diamond editions will be.

it's a win-win situation. Disney can cut costs by not producing as many discs, and we fans are satisfied, for once.

Well I assumed both, but come to think of it I could see Disney issuing Hunchback and Aladdin as Blu-exclusives (possibly with a DVD copy included with the blu?) because they have already had nice dvd releases that were available for long periods of time.. Hercules however has never had an anamaphoric dvd release so i would assume it would get a dvd in addition.

I wonder which title this release will have before the credits. There's been "The Adventures of the Great Mouse Detective", "The Great Mouse Detective", and "Basil of Baker Street."

Directors Ron Clements and John Musker had mentioned a few years ago that they'd still like to see the title permanently change back to "Basil of Baker Street."

This is so exciting! It's only been a few days since the last genuine disappointment from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment! Maybe if we're lucky, we'll get a new game! And if we're really really lucky, we'll get one little deleted sequence! I'm so excited, I can't wait to see what the slipcover looks like! Sure, we won't get an insert or disc art, but at least we'll get that Blu-Ray book and 100 DMR points! And of course, we know there will probably be 50 bonus points if you also get The Princess and the Frog!

I am super psyched about this! I don't own this movie (never even seen it). I am always really happy when Disney releases a new Special Edition because I have pretty much decided never to buy Gold Collection DVDs. Of course a truckload of bonus features would be nice, but for me it's mostly about the movie in this case.

As long as the original title is available, I'm happy. I don't really mind revisionism, but the original has to be available. But titles can be changed with seamless branching, so it should be easy if Disney really wants to.

Yay! I love TGMD. I really hope they add a couple things or improve this DVD in some way.

I was going to buy the current DVD in a couple days, so I guess I'll wait now.

Do we have any idea when it's going to come out? Is this the mysterious "Special Edition" with no title at #42 on this page? If so, that's a lot of stuff in March. (Obviously Disney is trying to celebrate my birthday.)

I just realized from that page that March is going to have too many dvd and bluray releases, which will probably lead to all of them not selling enough. I personally suggest the toy story films come during the summer or fall leaving TPATF aand TGMD on the shelves with the other ones

I'm sorry if you've posted this before, but have you ever notice the great difference in terms of color between the VHS edition of the Gret Mouse Detective and the DVD?

The picture of the DVD is very good, but i find that it is too much blue-toned, while the VHS edition is warmer and more saturated. Which one is more accurate to the original?

Oh dear

Another color debate?

Well, I was too young to have seen this film in the theater so I have no idea. Between the two however, I like the DVD version a lot better. The VHS looks washed out to me.

I think the VHS has the print originally intended by the directors, which is to say bright and slightly blurred. Anything else is a total insult to everything Basil of Baker Street has fought so hard to eradicate. If you buy the DVD, you might as well be putting money into Ratigan's pocket. For shame.

Figures. Soon as I ebay my old copy, the inevitable delay. I can't wait for the announcement that Dumbo will be delayed. Is Black Cauldron's SE still a definite for 2010. Of course now that I've gone blu I wish each would come (when they finally do) in a blu ray combo pack.
