I was just thinking about the kids a little while ago. They're all pretty young, but the youngest one won't ever get to know his dad well. But it's sad for them to lose their dad.

I wonder how his four siblings are feeling, as well. Such a sad, sad time in the world.

When my mom told me this over text, I thought she was joking. I called her and she told me that it was on CBS News.... I'm still in shock. He just disappeared. It was a total shock to me and a lot of other people...

When I first heard about MJ I was in a state of confusion as some news sites were claiming he had passed away and others were saying he was in a coma and that it had not yet been confirmed whether or not he had died. When the news finally became official though I was in complete shock and once it had finally sinked in, I cried whilst listening to "will you be there".

I wonder if Disney will release Captain EO on DVD in memory of Michael. I kinda doubt it, but it'd be cool.

As a former disc jockey I always enjoyed the music from Motown including the Jackson Five and later on Michael Jackson going solo.

Sometimes I had a hard time overlooking the 'weirdness' of The Gloved One, but there is no doubt he was one of the most talented people on earth during his brief time here. He will be missed, and I will truly miss the music that was Michael Jackson.

I am devastated by Michael Jackson's death. I'm actually surprised by how much it has affected me but the news was such a complete shock and I'm still reeling from it. I grew up with Michael's music and have been a huge fan since childhood. I don't know if a month has gone by in my life when I haven't listened to his songs. He is in a class that only The Beatles and Elvis join him in. For my generation, he's in that class by himself. The world has lost one of the greatest talents it has ever known and it's such a shame that his life and career were cut so short, not only by death, but by more than a decade of cruelty from the media and a bloodthirsty public.

And sadly, there's a good chance IMO that the "decade of cruelty from the media and a bloodthirsty public" hastened the death

I have a lot running through my mind right now. I don't know, I may end up rambling a bit here . . .

I'm feeling it as well. In fact I don't remember a celebrity death ever hitting me this hard, yet at the same time I'm not sure if I can figure out why. As I was saying before, I never considered myself a huge fan, but at the same time I always enjoyed his music. And now I get the feeling I took him and his music for granted all this time, that I never stopped to realize how much I appreciated it or that he'd be taken from the world so soon. Lots of 80's music takes me back to a happier, simpler, more innocent time in my life, and the string of hits MJ produced is no exception. I was also exposed to some of the Jackson Five music through reruns of their cartoon, and discovered the Ben song through the Simpsons, of all things. And I fell in love with The Earth Song at a very turbulent time in my life, when I was far away from home and taking care of my dying mother. The song gets to me now more than ever, knowing that he's gone now and taking the time to realize that yes, he wrote those hauntingly beautiful lyrics himself. How many popular artists these days are capable of writing their own material in addition to producing and choreographing it themselves? How many current or future artists will ever make the impact he did on not just the music industry, but the entire world?

I felt sorry for him during those "Wacko Jacko" days granted by the cruelty of the media, realizing he had few ways to cope with such a destructive childhood. I know from experience what childhood abuse can do to one on through adulthood, and I don't blame him for becoming as self-conscious and eccentric as he did when he became a mega-star.

And I feel selfish in saying so, but it feels as though a piece of my childhood died along with him, that his death has made me realize how much the world has changed since I was a six-year-old turning the knob of the TV in anticipation of watching Thriller for the first time. I was around to enjoy the height of his fame and see the impact he made on the world first-hand, something at least one of my younger friends has no way to relate to as he questions not only what made his music so important, but why the world mourns over losing him. I'm suddenly feeling very old . . .

Seriously, I'm not sure how much more death I can take this year between losing a couple of my friends and all this celebrity news. Once again, I hope he's now at peace.

I heard about this yesterday. This is a very shocking death indeed. Three deaths in one week.

As others have stated, that was uncalled for.

I didn't grow up with him as a performer, but as the brunt of jokes and as a bizarre character featured in numerous tabliods. But even back then, you couldn't listen to the music, watch the videos, and deny that this man had talent. Amazing talent, and he was certainly an important figure in music history. This is extremely sad news.

May you rest in peace, Michael Jackson.

It was extortion and child prostitution. IF Michael did anything to those kids, what their parents did was far worse! Its like if a woman is raped and her attacker says, "here, I'll give you $2 million if you don't report this to the police.".....So was it rape or prostitution???
