wow, I've always thought that in europe the release dates were +o- the same......... but actually I have to say that Italy in this case was luckier (or quicker)...... taron e la pentola magica (the black cauldron) has been on sale I think since last xmas.........
at east 4 once we're not the last wheel of the carriage........

The release was delyed and it only came out at the end of May.
Anyway, I picked it up 2 days ago, and I'm really happy of that purchase !
Good quality of image and sound ! Better thant all the other releases thatr came out internationally !

The R1 DVD is 2.35:1 Non-Anamorphic Widescreen not 4:3

For some reason, my web browser can't access that web site.
My question is:
Is the new transfer done at 70mm's 2.20 aspect ratio or at the anamorphic 35mm one (which was 2.40 in 1985) or something in between?
If the Cauldron was shot on Technirama the maximum image area on the negative would be 2.25 so to get one of the projection aspect ratios you need to crop a little of the image depending on which so i'm curious about the new transfer.
If you have a digital capture and the image measures (on PAL) around 477 pixels tall it's near 2.20, if it measures around 437 pixels tall it's near 2.40
Note: If anybody goes to the trouble of checking my calculations, and they don't add up, I'm using standart SMPTE digital video timing conventions to come up with them. Your milage(kilometrage) might vary.
Note 2: If sombody is counting, you can see a 16:9 PAL transfer of a 70mm 2.20 film has about the same vertical pixel count as a 16:9 NTSC standart widescreen (1.66-1.85) movie does. I like PAL

From the captures, the film appears to be presented in an aspect ratio of around 2.35:1.

Hi, thanks to the original poster for bringing this anamorphic release to my attention, finally an anamorphic release of Black Cauldron!
I can’t wait to get this DVD to replace my old R1 non-anamorphic release, it’s been a long wait, and I know those of you with 16X9 TVs will agree.
The only place I can find it is ww.amazon.fr but its EUR 27,51 + shipping which seems a little expensive to me. I was wondering if someone could recommend a good on-line retailer to get this from, which ships outside of France
Any info on this would be most appreciated.
