Although I already own all classics (except make mine music!)
I will surely buy the blue-rays as I already own Cars and Ratatouille and plan to double dip everything disney
In fact I recently created two covers to coincide with the
FANTASIA/FANTASIA 2000 blue-rays.
These are my own impressions of what I think those covers could look like!
musical sequence meaning: destino, which as I just read will get it's own release.......
so.....

Here's what's coming and when:
Pinocchio: Spring 2009 along with Blu-Ray
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Fall 2009 along with Blu-Ray
Fantasia: Spring 2010 along with Blu-Ray
Fantasia 2000: Spring 2010 along with Blu-Ray
(Yes, two Spring 2010 PE DVDs! And
Destino will be released! )
Beauty and the Beast: Fall 2010 along with Blu-Ray
...and the cycle continues...
I'm looking forward to these DVDs as I don't have any of these yet! And will probably double-dip with the Blu-Ray. Fantasia will probably look fantastic on Blu-Ray.
Yes, yes, YES! Thank you so much for the heads-up! I'm really stoked about this news. I'm especially stoked on getting
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and
Beauty and the Beast on DVD when they get re-released because I missed my chances to get both last time...who knows, if we get Blu-Ray, I might get them for that too!
Now to wait for news on
The Lion King coming to Blu-Ray and then I'll be totally set up, I'd love to get Blu-Ray alone just *for* The Lion King, that'll be incredible!

I think you greatly underestimate the sales potential of
Fantasia over
Beauty and the Beast. Remember, adults like animation too, and
Fantasia is like, one of the
Citizen Kane's of animation.

No and I completely understand that. But what I am saying is, is that Beauty and the Beast as of right now has the highest demand. And yes adults do enjoy animation but not as many as there are children who enjoy it. Every child loves Beauty and the Beast. Or at least almost. I don't know any child who enjoys Fantasia. I just feel like Fantasia is a separate kind of piece that should get it's own type of release. And also Beauty and the Beast is one that children and adults can both enjoy. It's not childish compared to others. Not that any of the animated classics are but this one offers a story anyone can find something in. I just think it deserves an earlier and bigger release than Fantasia. Just my opinion though too.

If they really wanted to make a splash in blu-ray sales and adoption they need to release 4 a year. One the first Tuesday of each new season or something. It's rather ridiculous that they even consider Fantasia as a Platinum. Sure it is amazing animation but no one remembers it other than absolute Disney fanatics. I don't know anyone who would rather have Fantasia than Beauty and the Beast. Actually my friends and I had a rather large debate about this all and came to the conclusion that it is rather stupid for them to do it this way. Many kids will like I've said before grow up the first 7 or 8 years of their lives without these movies. I was fortunate enough to have them all then. I can't imagine not.
I don't think the platinum line is supposed to be a popularity contest. its a film that deserves to look the best it can be.

I just remembered something, wasn't there talk once of Alice in Wonderland possibly getting a Platinum Release?

Unless I end up getting blue ray, I'll be getting Pinnocchio, Fantasia, and Fantasia 2000, no Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, or Snow White.

You're right, maybe that will be the Spring 2012 release, followed by "The Lion King" in the fall.

Yeah, in this thread:
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... hp?t=21385
People were skeptical of that chart at first, but so far it's been right, especially now that we've gotten this new press release about the '09 and '10 Platinums. I'm still not convinced that Aladdin's been dropped the way most people believe, though. I realize the German Platinum site has removed all references to Aladdin, but it still seems odd to me. Until Disney says so, I'm going to stick with my idea that Aladdin will be a 2012 Platinum.

I did when I was a kid. Then again, I haven't been a kid for about 12 years.

I can agree there. I'd rather Disney treat
Fantasia as a film above the Platinum line, which really is only a shell of its former self (regardless of how many impressive features
Sleeping Beauty seems to have, as it came too little too late for other just-as-deserving titles). Heck, if Warner Brothers can create a four-disc set for
Superman: The Movie (when IMO, it merits only three at most), Disney should be able to present
Fantasia in an impressive multi-disc package that isn't hindered by the limitations of the "Platinum Edition" line.

There is a rumour floating on this forum that Disney is actualy working on a live action film version of the broadway musical, and that they are casting people to play the broadway roles on film) so, IF it is true, MABEY the would add this on the new release.

I doubt they will add it onto the new platinum release when they can market it separately and make more money off of it. Also... Alice In Wonderland and The Lion King will most likely be 2011's titles... not 2012.
After The Lion King things are going to get a bit strange. Cos the next year would bring Aladdin...But since it's been removed from the Platinum lineup that would mean Bambi and Cinderella would be 2012
Unless they decide to add one new title each Spring and release a 2nd round Platinum each Autumn...In which case there would be a new Platinum in Spring 2012 followed by Bambi in Autumn. Another new Platinum in Spring 2013 followed by Cinderella in Autumn.
Let's hope we don't have to wait so long for Cinderella on Bluray as we did on DVD.

I enjoyed it as a kid. The Fantasia films are among my kids' favorites today---and for the record, neither of them have been able to sustain interest in Beauty & the Beast long enough to complete a viewing.
And the original Fantasia set sales records on VHS when it came out (which was the original criterion for choosing Platinum titles, by the way).

wow that's a shock to me. all of my siblings and friends were bored out of their minds. i had no idea fantasia had such a following.

whats this about Aladdin being removed from the line up? since when and why? I find that hard to believe if it was, I'm sure it was just a temporary thing...but still they already released the film under the platinum line, they cant take it back. and blu ray is a whole new beast really.
and Aladdin is considered by many to be their favorite Disney classic of all time. ask your average person and its usually either the Lion King or Aladdin.

I agree... it's bullocks that they are removing it from the Platinum line-up due to low DVD sales... there is another thread about it (link a few posts up ^)...
Aladdin, in terms of top grossing DAC's is one of the highest, so it seems stupid that they would remove it from the Platinum line just because it didn't sell as well as they had hoped... I think a large part of the problem was their marketing.
The only good thing about it being removed, is that we will most likely get it sooner... and the Platinum DVD may gain collector's value, as it will be the only Platinum to not get a double release.
Perhaps Aladdin and Alice In Wonderland will be 2012's releases ?

Anybody happen to know what non-platinum DVDs Disney is planning on releasing in the future? Usually there's two or three per year. As an example, this year they had Aristocats, Saludos Amigos/Caballeros, Jungle Book 2, etc. Hopefully it will be Gold Collection replacements. Bring on Black Cauldron!!

Pinocchio is one they should have released by now. I haven't seen that for years and only have it taped to a video tape that probably would break if I tried to watch it.
Maybe the price of a Blu Ray player will decrease by then and I can get the Blu Ray.
