So would you say the shock at Cinderella getting her happily-ever-after is the villain's comeuppance?

Most likely. I think the Stepmother realized that if, after all that time, she had only been the good mother that Cinderella's father had wished for his daughter, she'd be in the castle right about now (an honor I'm sure she would've died for).

Also, I don't think the link between the Lucifers would be much evidence for death. The Biblical Lucifer didn't die in the Fall; come to think of it, I don't think he ever was "alive" in the sense that we think of it.

Lady Tremaine locked Cinderella up,tread her horribly and even tried to kill her in Cinderella III,Triton is a loving father.

Lady Tremaine was a loving mother as well, to her own daughters. Besides, there's no telling that if Lady Tremaine hadn't "prevented" Cinderella from going to the ball, she might not've ended up married to the Prince (he seemed distracted in meeting the ladies in the line; Cinderella simply stood out in the silver dress).

If Lucifer survived, he liked broke some bones. Depending on vet care in that time period, he may have died later on. I am sure Lady Tremaine would have paid the vet bills to try and save him. She may not be nice to Cinderella, but she loves her cat.

Here is a website about cats falling from high heights. And they make a very good point....statistics of survival rate are going to be impossible. Why? Well cats that are still breathing after the fall, they get brought to the vet. Cats that die, are buried or thrown in a dumpster. So there is likely NO definite number on the amount of cats die compared to the amount of cats who live. So of course it SEEMS a lot of cats survive, but don't believe it.

Okay, you looked at his design, did you look at his animation? The cat bounces lightly as he chases Jaq into a hole, slinks up the stairs, even taking the form of the stairs, and rises upward as he tries to catch the birds throwing plates at him. The cat flies. He does not move realistically and according to his animation makes it believable for him to live.

What makes me think he was intended to die was Walt's hate for cats, and the tradition of villains falling to their dooms. Disney's Divinity, I think Disney has ignored that Lucifer was an angel and just have the villains falling as a reminder that evil falls down before good. It's supposed to be their defeat. I suppose Lucifer (the cat) could be defeated without being killed, but it's tradition for them to fall to their deaths, not just fall. But then there was some falling where villains didn't die later. Madam Mim, right? Maybe that's why they didn't need to show him get to the ground. He fell, the point was made.

I am talking about design alone. Compared to real life cats, he probably weighed a good 15lbs+. Working at a grooming shop for nearly 10 years, I have seen my share of fuzzy and fat cats and know how agile they really are. Fat cats can't do the things Lucifer does in the movie, that what makes him a cartoon. The question was posed of is he survived. I was only saying judging from his overall look and likely real agility if he was in fact a real cat, he would probably fall to the ground with the grace of a sack of potatoes.

Personally for all we know there could have been a window ledge not far down the tower he could have landed on, thus not making the drop as fatal as if he had gone alllllllll the way to the ground. Also, being a cartoon the laws of physics and everything are all skewered so he could have survived anyways, I mean the Cheshire Cat can rip his head off which you think would be fatal So yes, he's probably still alive just heavily bandaged and not wanting to work without a stunt double

The scenes with Lucifer and the mice are very Tom and Jerry. Lucifer's the sort of character who will never die; he keeps coming back for more.

You know, i've never really thought about this until I read the topic. I voted "yes" before I read the comments, but now I'm not so sure.

I remember reading the Cinderella script many years ago in the Disney Archives and while I don't remember it specifically saying it, the script sort of implied Lucifer was to die from the fall.

Characters died in many early Disney films. You could see a skeleton decorating Queen Grimhilde's castle. A partridge was shot from the sky in Bambi. Maleficient as Dragon was killed in Sleeping Beauty.
However, around LADY AND THE TRAMPs' time, the trend of a character dying, only to be revealed later as being hurt or stunned, became more commonplace in Disney films. Some critics considered that a "cheat", others saw it as a way to do a dramatic turn without killing off a useful character.

kurtadisneyite, you got to read the Cinderella screenplay? That's awesome!

So, does the script say anything about where and when the story takes place, Cindy's age, her last name, the Prince's name, Cindy's father, if the stepsisters are twins or who is older? Are there lines or scenes that did not make it to the final picture or did you basically read everything that we see on screen?

Cindy's age is 18 according to press releases of the time. She's also a blue eyed blond standing at 5 foot 4, weighs 120 pounds with a shoe size "in proportion to her stature".

Thanks Flanger-Hanger! I read in a disney fact book about 4 years ago stating that Cinderella is 18, and it also stated her shoe size but I don't remember it. I just wanted to make sure if the screenplay officially tells her age.
That same book states that Anastasia's dress is eggplant in color, and the color of Drizella's dress is avocado.

It got those facts from "The Little Big Book of Disney", which got their facts from a press release, and I have no idea where you would find that.
