I'll probably upgrade some of the "bigger" movies like Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Transformers, but movies like Napoleon Dynamite and other such comedies... probably not.

I've got close to 400 DVDs so I won't for now. I don't have a Blu-Ray player yet. I may upgrade a few titles in the future; this will probably be movies that have lots of special effects like Star Wars.

I think DVDs are still great. There is nothing wrong with them. I noticed that with high-def pictures, it actually hurt my eyes a little.

"Nothing wrong with DVDs", you say. And that's pretty much the point. I DID, however, discover years ago that there was something wrong with VHS tapes...

I'm only going to be upgrading my favorite movies...that is if the picture sound and features are upgraded with them. Same for my Disney movies too, only upgrading my favorites.

No, because I can not afford a blu-ray player or ps3 and I probably won't be able to for a very long time. It took me forever just to have my DVD collection to where it is today.

If I had one millions dollars to blow on dvds and players and the like I would consider it.

If I had a Blu-ray player, I would not replace any of the movies I have on DVD because Blu-Ray can play all your DVDs anyways.

I dont see myself wasting money on a blue ray player anytime soon unless I get a ps3 and I have over 1000 dvds so it is a deffinite No on the upgrade question

I'll upgrade a few of the special ones, but for the most part....no way!

I can see myself buying most of my new general movies in blu-ray format, however. But I am picky about how things look so I want my collection to be (for the most part) in one format.

Nope. I have an HDTV and the upconverting just looks fine to me. no point to waste money.

then again, some DVDs I kind of want to repurchase like maybe Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.

Only my favorites i'll replace - the rest I will settle with "Up conversion".

Oh dear. I think you've been misled. For months now the PS3 does upconvert up to 1080p as long as you have a HDMI connection. It was in one of the firmware downloads (not sure which one) but it most certainly does upconvert. Your Best Buy retailer seems to be stuck in the days of 2006 and the PS3's launch.

The only criteria is you need a HDMI lead and reciever for upconversion to be enabled. But that's the same on all upconverting players - its one of the licencing agreement of AACS for upscaling DVDs.

Have you not got your PS3 yet MMB? If not, when do you think you will?

I know right now everyone is saying they wont upgrade. But down the line I think Blu-Ray will have these crazy feature that will be very hard to say no. Right now I am torn between Enchanted on DVD or Blu-Ray, and honestly I think the Blu-Ray one is better just because it has a great feature that the DVD does not!

i was gonna get it but then i was told to wait till june for the new ps3 80gb so now im just waiting eagerly but i really just want to go get my ps3. im returning the DVD player this sunday.

But if Anchor Bay / Blue Underground had any plans to release a boxset of Dario Argento's films in Blu-Ray, that would kick me in the ass enough to where I would actually buy a Blu-Ray player and whatever TV necessary to make the Blu-Ray disc look the way it should look. Though of course, I don't have any kind of sophisticated sound system, so I'd only be getting half the magic of Blu-Ray (I imagine).

My theory is as follows:

Comedy/TV/ and Black & White Movies NO. They are more story and content. (Examples: Tin Cup/Adam Sandler Movies/Friends Television Series)

Action Movies and Epics YES. They are more visual. (Example: Braveheart/Gladiator/Pirates of the Carib./Bourne Movies/Top Gun)

And my favorites and or classics: (Example: Sound of Music/Grease/Goonies/Indiana Jones)

There is no definitive yes or no. If i were to go back in time, many of the movies I own on DVD, I would not have bought.

Okay, this was the first time I ever looked at BluRay DVD players, never knew how much they were. I figured $200-$300....But $400 and $500 even $1000! You have got to be freaking kidding me!

I wouldn't spend more than $250 for the player. So its a negative on replacing all my DVDs with BluRay. There are SOME I'd buy BluRay. For instance, Planet Earth. I bet that is stunning in BluRay. Its beautiful as a regular DVD set on my HDTV (I have a normal DVD player, not HDDVD Player). But I am simply not willing to pay the high cost of a BluRay player right now
