However, with all due respect Pals - replacing an attraction with an even older attraction is just not on. Not only is it not in the spirit of Tomorrowland, it isn't even in the spirit of Disneyland's 'never being complete'. That's kind of why I'm in two minds about the Finding Nemo Subs: I loved them as a kid, missed them in 2005, but will ride them again in 2008. Yes, it will be a new attraction, but virtually a re-make of the original Subs. To be true to the spirit of Disneyland, they should have made a completely original use of the space.
Well maybe I should rephrase myself, I don't hate HISTA. I use to really like, and still find it to be a decent show, but I think it's just outlasted its welcome. Before the 50th anniversary, this show was basically a walk-through since there were NO crowds at all. I haven't been on Stitch's Great Escape yet, so I don't know how "bad" it is, but not only is it newer than HISTA, but it's also MUCH easier to replace HISTA than it is with Stitch.

As for Captain E.O., actually, I think it could be a great attraction to remake! Just modernize all the effects, and replace Michael Jackson(not sure who with, but as long as he/her doesn't sleep with children, they'd be perfect :P) and you'd have a brand new(yet at the same time, old) attraction.

I'm a huge Aladdin fan and was really excited when the Carpets opened because I was excited to have a permanent Aladdin attraction, but I agree with you. It's Dumbo with rugs, and I wouldn't be too sad if it left, especially now that Aladdin has a great scene in PhilharMagic. I'd want them to make that space OPEN again; it's sort of awkwardly positioned. Besides, the Agrabah gift shop (sadly) lost a lot of unique Agrabah theme (I blew SO much money in that place when it was new...), so it's not as though Disney is still trying to majorly promote the attraction.

While we're on the subject...flying TRICERATOPS? "Triceratops Spin" at DAK can go too...though it is kind of funny with it's hokey hoedown music. It's part of that badly themed Dinorama area, and triceratops doesn't fly and they haven't made a movie about one that does like with Dumbo the flying elephant, so...yeah. I scratch my head.

WDW does not need Dumbo, Dumbo: Bigger, Higher, Faster (aka AstroOrbiter), Dumbo: With Rugs! (MCoA), AND Dumbo: With Dinos! (Triceratops Spin) in the same resort.

personally, of the three i think the carpet ride should be the last.
clearly disney is able to think of more exotic things then revolving elephants, but these are simply structured and easy to build carnival rides, and once you stick a disney face on them- in flows the money.
The main difference with Magic Carpet is (not just the spitting camels) the whole surrounding. it suits the enviorment.
The marketplace, even though it's selling the same overpriced disney merch as any other store, adds alot to the atmosphere. and that really wouldn't work without the Carpet.
Now i've never been on Astro Orbiter so i can't really comment on it (though i'm pretty sure i get the gist), but it seems to me that it adds more to the atmosphere of tomorrowland then Dumbo (don't shoot me) does to Fantasyland.
Yes, i know it's a classic, but i think it needs to be updated.
it pretty much brings down the quality of all the attractions surrounding it. Quite like sticking a mechanical bull in the middle of Animal Kingdom.

As for me, i could do without It's Touch to be a Bug, I'm sure they could find some better use for that tree.

Oh and of course Cinderella's Castle. Old news

dont forget the triceratop spin @ DAK. thats the same thing too.
Though- Astro is a story high & a little bit faster then the others.

I am shocked that awallaceunc put down the Spectromagic Parade as needing to go, but I can understand where he's coming from.
Above all else I think that The Enchanted Tiki Room either needs to go, or they need to change it back to it's original show. I'd also be up for them getting rid of the Country Bear Jamboree and The Tomorrowland Indy Speedway. I think Stitches Great Escape should change back to Alien Encounters, b/c that was so good.
As for the other parks, at Epcot, Body Wars needs to go and Honey I Shrunk the Audience (it's time for something new). At AK they need to redo Dinoland USA, it's got some neat rides (dinosaur and the primeval whirl) but the overall theme and look seems cheap to me. At MGM they need something better for Narnia, either get rid of the Backlot tour, or add something to it, and Sounds Dangerous needs to go.

I think that H.I.S.T.A., Drew Carey's Sounds Dangerous & at least one of the "Live" shows in MGM should go. There is the Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast & Playhouse Disney shows. I think it's too much & a waste of precious space.

attractions to go bye bye

I wouldn't mind seeing an Incredible's attraction instead to replace Stitch's Great escape. Are the Incredible's featured anywhere in the park?

For nostalgic reasons, I'd like to see the original Tiki Room return, but for logical reasons, I think the updated version is what keeps audiences...umm...from leaving. I remember reading that people usually walk out of the Tiki Room in Disneyland because it's so boring. Let's be honest, it is the very first Audio-Animatronics attraction, and the Animatronics aren't quite that impressive as they used to be. I think the Tiki Room is fine for now or should be replaced with a different attraction, preferably another show that keeps the spirit of the Tiki Room but offers more entertainment.

Like the Tiki Room, the Country Bear Jamboree is getting old too, but I don't think they should get rid of it just yet. It's a WDW original after all and one of the last theme park attraction Walt Disney was involved in. The Speedway on the other hand is an annoyance (well to me anyway) and needs to be gone or revamped to look like Autopia rather than a generic car driving ride you can find in any amusement park.
crunkcourt wrote:At AK they need to redo Dinoland USA, it's got some neat rides (dinosaur and the primeval whirl) but the overall theme and look seems cheap to me.
Do you mean the Dino-Rama part? If you do, then it's supposed to look cheap. It's an extension of the dinosaur toy store/gift shop called Chester & Hester's...hence Chester and Hester's Dino-Rama. The store and the mini-land are supposed to be tourist trap, roadside attractions.

Also, I agree with the real Dinoland theming being...lacking. A dino-research area is nice, but when I think of Dinoland, I think of being in the land of the Dinosaurs...when they were alive. It needs to be more exotic and environmentally themed like the rest of the park is.
crunkcourt wrote:I wouldn't mind seeing an Incredible's attraction instead to replace Stitch's Great escape. Are the Incredible's featured anywhere in the park?
Yeah, they make character appearances in the former preshow/waiting area of the TimeKeeper. I agree with you though...I would love for the Incredibles to replace Stitch. Heck, I'd rather see Mission to Mars come back to replace Stitch. If you ask me, Stitch's Great Escape would've been a lot better if they kept it as Alien Encounter since it still is an Alien Encounter. Then they could make the ride be longer with us seeing Stitch first and then the scary one. It'd be awesome if it were both set loose in the theater and there'd be an incredible battle and Experiment 626 would save us and he wouldn't call himself Stitch because he isn't supposed to know that yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crunk,

I couldn't disagree with you more about the Tiki Room and the Country Bears. I think the first show is very entertaining. I still see huge numbers of people walking into the Country Bear show. I hear the adults laughing at the many jokes and puns. I think many people really enjoy this show. It is all very clever.

Kram,

You are correct about Walt being involved in the CBJ. My Imagineering book gives the story behind this. The idea for the attraction came from Marc Davis. He came up with the idea and drew a picture of Big Al. A duplicate of this picture is one of the posters that hang in the vestibule at the show. The story goes that Marc used this picture to pitch the ride to Walt. According to Marc, when Walt saw the picture he laughed (and approved the project). It was the last time Walt laughed before he died.

Can't really argue with a lot of the WDW ones, haven't been there in years though I am curious to see what's changed and what's new.

Little disappointed to hear about Journey into Imagination.

Really liked the old ride.

Anyways from a Disneyland perspective here are my thoughts:

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - I've heard all the stories about the ground underneath it etc, but at this point it's just getting pitiful. A lake that isn't maintained and a bunch of dead space.

Autotopia - At this point just terribly dated. Faster, better options are available nowadays.

Star Tours - Torn on this one. It's still fun, but the story could use an update. It'd be neat to do what Lucas originally intended and have other films as well.

Honey I shrunk the audience - Never a huge fan but at this point it too is dated and the space could probably be put to better use.

Adventures with Mr. Lincoln - Heck just turn it into Hall of Presidents. If you're going to use the animitronic approach, why not go full force?

All in all, Tomorrowland at Disneyland is in a pretty sad state of affairs right now. Space Mountain and Star Tours are the only reasons worth going at this point and Star Tours is feely pretty dated by now.

There seems to be a lot of space that can be better used included the sites for 20,000 LEagues and Autotopia. Nothing about the land really feels like Tomorrow anymore and it's certainly the weakest of all the lands.

DW - Mission Space - only thrill ride I have ever been on that just wasnt fun.

California Adventure - the Boardwalk games. And for that matter almost all of the pier and cheap carney rides. Orange Stinger, Zephyr etc.

Disneyland - Actually I am not sure anything really stinks. I have seen Honey I Shrunk the Kids more times than I ever need to. I guess Starcade is ocnsidered an arcade. Could certainly make better use of that space. In fact, I dont think they even open the more spacious top anymore. Its actually more what isnt there in Tomorrowland that irks me. The subs will help as will something that replaces Rocket Rods(even the people movers would not be that bad)

I am really shocked about the Tiki Room talk. I dont really recalling anybody leaving, certainly not in droves. And really the reason people leave, is other attractions dont let you. I still love it and thought the WDW version was terrible. Leave the DL version.

I'm surprised people keep saying "let's take this attraction and turn it back into the old version". It's great for the nostalgic value(I personally would rather see Alien Encounter over Stitch's Great Escape), but is not part of the progressive views Walt had for the park(s). In Walt's time, attractions were always changing, always being updated. Sentimentality kicks in when people don't like what's new, so they ask for what was taken for granted before. All my choices are from Magic Kingdom at WDW, since it's my park...

The Enchanted Tiki Room - Haven't seen the Disneyland one in years, though I've got the WDW pre-show memorized (thanks to working the Adventureland Nut Wagon). It's a harmless little attraction and it's perfect for rainy days. But as an attraction that keeps you interested, it's only mildly amusing (unless you and your friends start a wave or start snapping and swaying to "In the Still of the Night"). If they have to update it, I'd simply make Iago less obnoxious (if it's humanly possible), but I wouldn't turn it back into the old one.

Tomorrowland Indy Speedway - it's a low-capacity ride that takes up a large amount of space and would be put to better use if they tore it all down erected a roller coaster or some other futuristic thrill ride.

Stitch's Great Escape - while I'd love for them to bring back Alien Encounter, I know that will never happen. So if they ever decide to dump Stitch, I can't imagine what its replacement would be, though I hope it doesn't use chili dogs.

Share A Dream Come True Parade - they've recently started changing it, removing a float for a day to get ride of the glass dome (so it's pretty much the same thing, minus a large dome). Today was the day for the Aladdin Float, so not only did they just have him walk in the parade, they had to remove his voice tracks too. Yesterday they were changing the Villains Float, and it was sure was something seeing all these villains walking down the street. But anyway, they need to really change this parade. According to Eyes & Ears, there's going to be a new one as part of the next promotion, "Year of a Million Dreams".

Magic Carpets of Aladdin - as glad as I am that Aladdin's got an attraction, it's just Dumbo in Adventureland, except the wait's not as long.

The reason I said to change the Tiki Bird Room back to it's original is for the memories. I loved the attraction when I was younger and when I went back a couple of years ago I discovered it had been changed, and have kind of developed a grudge against the new one. Only one of my friends really likes the new show; and the rest pretty much hate it. Oh well I guess I can't like every decision Disney makes.

Which proves my point. People ask for the old stuff because it's what they remember, what they're comfortable with. But that doesn't happen in theme parks. We're never gonna see Mr. Toad's Wild Ride return to WDW's Magic Kingdom, and they'll likely never ever bring back Adventures Thru Inner Space at Disneyland. But people will keep saying, "They should bring back such and such because I loved that ride when I was younger". It's great to have the memories, but in the end, the memories are all that would have really lasted anyway. The New Tiki Room won't be there forever, it'll likely be replaced, and the kids who grew up on that will be the ones saying, "They should bring back the Tiki Room Under New Management! I loved that show when I was little!".

They should bring back Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, I loved that ride when I was little. I HATE POOH! POOH AND HIS FRIENDS SHOULD BE TAKEN TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH WHERE THE SUN DONT SHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:P rotfl

Sorry, I could not resist.

It's hard to argue about going against things for nostalgic reasons, but it is the nostalgia and memories of the park that keep people coming back. Then again it is also the new things that previous guests haven't seen that keep them coming back. So all in all, it's hard to argue for either side. For the Tiki Room, it's nice to know the attraction is still there but with some new bits to keep long time ago guests to return to the attraction. As for me, I've never seen the original so "Under New Management" is the original to me and is nice but needs an update. Let's add Chicken Little!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :D

Speaking of updates, I was intrigued by a Disney pin series at WDW. It was the Disney Characters for a proposed Disney Character additions to "it's a small world" all as Mary Blair styled dolls!
A Framed poster to put the pins on:

Alice and Dalmations in England:

http://www.pinpics.com/cgi-bin/pin.cgi? ... 1153666251

http://www.pinpics.com/cgi-bin/pin.cgi? ... 1153666251
http://www.pinpics.com/cgi-bin/pin.cgi? ... 1153666251
http://www.pinpics.com/cgi-bin/pin.cgi? ... 1153666251

Briar Rose in Germany or France:
http://www.pinpics.com/cgi-bin/pin.cgi? ... 1153666251

Timon, Pumbaa and Simba in Africa:
http://www.pinpics.com/cgi-bin/pin.cgi? ... 1153666251

That would make the attraction a lot more fun! Then again it'd be repetitive of the existing character rides and character meet and greets at Epcot World Showcase.

I usually agree. If they get rid of a great attraction, I'm fine AS LONG as they have something cool planned to replace it.

Unfortunately, The Winnie the Pooh ride(for example) stinks and was such an insulting way to see Toad go(besides, why couldn't they get rid of that dumb Peter Pan ride if they needed a Pooh ride instead?). All will be forgiven if they replace it with a Chicken Little ride though. :D

I don't mind rides being tampered with if it's for the better. New attractions are always welcomed. However, I personally think that the additions to the Tiki Bird room are annoying and just bad. If other people really enjoy it then that's great. I'll probably just be skipping it from now on.

Also, The idea of adding Disney characters to It's a Small World could be interesting. It might make the ride fit in more with the rest of Fantasy Land.
