I'll get that one for sure!!! Alien vs. Pred. looked okay so far from the trailers I saw. I hope there won't be an overkill of Vs. movies though.

Seems like its the same, but we have less soundtracks and subtitles on the supplements as well as the movies.

I got VB a week ago and they had a article on this set, the set is 5 1/2 feet long! hehe it's huge. I can't wait to get my greasy paws on it!

Hey if Alien comes in December as a gift set, then why is in SE early next year? Are they the same exact movie, but just sold seperate?

yes basicly, except the Box set comes with 9 discs the individual copies all together will have only 8 disc all together. the box set comes with 9 disc jam packed of features........ so I think the box is a better deal!

Well it looks like once again the none-US countries have been shafted by the studios.

Reports are the US sets contain commentaries for the theatrical and Special Edition cuts (ie. you get additional comments in the added scenes) while the none US sets only get commentaries on one of the cuts of the film (the original cut on all but Aliens, where it is the Special Edition).

I can't understand why. Not only is all the seemless branching done and implemented on all sets, but the UK set (at least) has less soundtracks than the US release - it should have more room avaliable on the disc as a result - not less!

I'm annoyed at this, because it seems like the UK and other countries will never be the same as the US - and then they complain when we import from America.

Well, I got my UK set yesterday (number 125149 of 130,000 if anyone is interested - meaning it's likely all of the UK sets are already in retail channels). While it's true we don't get the extended commentaries - I don't know why, if Fox UK were determined to have only commentaries on one edits per film, why not go for the extended edits?) but we get a cool box which means you don't have to unfold 5 feet plus of cardboard.



So far I've watched the 3 hour (!) Alien Documentary and flicked through the Dark Horse comic covers. I'm about to watch the 1 hour Alien Evolution documentary (made for and originally shown on Channel 4 in the UK).

And yes, unlike some studios we could mention (*cough* Disney *cough*) this set includes every single treaser, trailer and tv sport for all of the films.

That looks so awesome. While I've kind of made the decision to just get the 2-discs of Alien and Aliens sometime after they come out next month, I'm sure I will regret not getting to just have that amazing-looking set in my possession at any time. It's nice they included all the trailers & TV ads, but kind of a bummer that if you don't get the set, you'll miss out on them.

I've just flicked through the Alien LaserDisc archive and it appears to contain every single thing from the Alien LaserDisc ported across. Step through the still frames and even the trailers are shown as they would be on the LD! I would imaging the Aliens LaserDisc archive is the same!

Now, if only Disney would port their LD contents to DVD in the same manner.

The Aliens LD Archive includes Interview footage with James Cameron only viewable from the LD Archive. I'd imagine the whole "LaserDisc Expericence" is a direct port of the LD!

The rrp is £69.99 - I got it for £42.99.

I think if you take the initial RRP without any discounts, the UK works out 3p cheaper than the US after currency conversion. It's not often that happens!

Luke, if you're on the fence about Alien 3 (I don't think it's that bad as it stands - most of the ideas are good) it's probably worth getting the boxset. While I haven't viewed the longer cut, reports are it considerably improves the film. Plus there's a (roughly) 3 hour documenting the whole production, which is excellent. I would say it's worth viewing the Alien 3 bonus disc just to hear the original story concept (20 mins) which sounds fantastic.

If you don't like Alien Ressurection - fine. But I'm sure the supplements will add something to the film.

I haven't seen Alien 3 or Alien Resurrection at all, and I've heard lots of mixed reviews on the third and mostly negative on the fourth. Thanks for the insight. I'd love to get the Boxset, it'd just be a really expensive half-unseen purchase, and the way the box is designed, it doesn't seem like it'd be easy to get rid of the movie or movies if I didn't like them.

Alien 3 was...okay. Its not a bad movie at all, its just not as classic as Alien or Aliens. Alien Ressurection is an odd movie, but I really enjoy it. It sort of goes off in a whole different direction, but at least it is a unique experience.

alien resurrection was dark and weird but still pretty fun to watch

Ridley Scott, the amazing director of such films as "Alien," "Blade Runner," "Black Hawk Down," and "Gladiator" has committed to direct a prequel to the original Alien. This is big, big news. Alien is one of those films that set a standard and created a cultural phenomenon that other sci-fi films would have to follow. The story will supposedly tell the story of the ship that first landed on the planet and had the original encounter with... the eggs.

And here I thought this thread was about the Alien Quadrilogy coming to Blu-Ray or something. Maybe then we'll get the restore-the-20-minutes-they-cut-out version of the Alien 3 documentary.
