Oh, darn it! That's what I hate about these rereleases, the packaging is going to match the other DVDs and mine isn't.

Well, who wants to bet the cover will be terrible compared to the awesome one on the CE?
Same thoughts. Even though the packaging won't match the other DVDs, I'm keeping it because it's unique. ;) And I hope the cover on the newly released TENG will have color, lots and lots of color. (Because I'm very fond of the Gold & simple yet nice cover of TENG CE.)

The only way I'll buy this movie (again) is if the features are different. (hmm, I wonder if they'll add more games!)

This is so irritating. I don't have the Collector's Edition, but it's not like I like this movie enough to where I'd buy a re-release. What about Lilo & Stitch?????? What about Hercules????????? What about The Hunchback of Notra Dame??????? I'll gladly wait for 10th Anniversary Editions, but not when they're releasing re-issues of already-nicely-done special editions.

I'll prolly buy it. I Love TENG...and when I got my CE from bestbuy.com, the case and wrap were ripped :(

Considering this has been one of the weakest years for Disney as far as DVD releases are concerned, it´s a little disappointing they are more interested in rereleasing past editions than getting new stuff out. Besides the specials editions of Bambi, The Incredibles, Pocahontas and Cinderella, I think the only other new big releases this year are going to be the Walt Disney Treasures.

As a proud owner of the original editions of "Tarzan" and "The Emperor´s New Groove" (both standard and collector´s), I´m going to pass on the new editions. But the Collector´s Edition of TENG was supposed to be The Ultimate Groove, wasn´t it? I won´t be surprised if this new edition ends up being inferior to the old one, filled with fluffy games and music videos. The only way I would be interested in buying a new edition is if they included stuff from "Kingdom of the Sun", including the much talked-about doccumentary "The Sweatbox".

I'll probably be buying this. I have the single-disc edition and the double-discer is well out of my price range. Besides, I need a version that is anamorphic widescreen (the single disc isn't) and I want a copy that'll match all of my other Disney DVDs (consistency is my main thing)

I dont know about this yet. that will be my 3rd copy of this film.I will most likely pass.

Picture Quality Improvements?

I've heard newer DVD's have better picture quality than the older ones mainly because they don't bother to waste space encoding the black letterbox on the top and bottom of the screen. The first release of Emperor's New Groove is rather old and I am not sure if they do this or not. I am wondering if this one will have better picture quality?

I'm guessing both of these re-releases won't have better picture quality, but I'm hoping. When they were first released, TENG and Tarzan both had excellent picture quality; the reason for these re-releases is most likely just to make money.

I find this totally dumb, the collectors edition is still available and the single edition so why re-release? Well actually we all know why it is getting a re-release "Kronks New Groove", to be honest we should have seen this coming really.

I know alot of you are complaing about there not being a Lilo And Stitch 2 disc SE but its getting a release in the UK i think in August and a Tarzan 2 disc SE was just released so im guessing for you guys in the US they are right around the corner. :) But im confused......why release a film that has a fine single edition and collectors edition that are still in print? Why not re-release a movie such as Hercules and give it 2 disc treatment, wouldnt it make more sense? Not as many people would have this movie on dvd at all, while The Emperors New Groove has 2 editions that many people own. Sorry for me going on but it just seems crazy what Disney are doing....

I have to second what Andy said. There are a number of Disney DVDs that need a 2 disc upgrade (such as Hercules, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Robin Hood). Lilo and Stitch, despite some releases overseas, seems to be coming 2, 3 possibly even 4 (depending on how you see it) years later than advertised originally to the USA (serves you right for getting too many exclusives though :P). And why does Lilo and the like not get an upgrade? Because The Emperor's New Groove is getting a rerelease despite being available in a good Collector's Edition. As Joe Carioca wrote, I bet this release will actually be worse than what is already out there...is anyone excited for the Virtual Llama Pajamma Party?

What about Pocahontas 2 being rereleased in a better version. Pocahontas was released in May. With the two Toy Story movies being released 3 months apart later this year, why can't they do the same for both Pocahontas 2 and Lilo & Stitch.

or they should concentrate on release newerv editions of Fox and the Hound, the Jungle Book, the Aristocats...or even some sequels, like GMD...

Perhaps the best arguement for getting this is for a)those who haven't got an edition yet and want an affordable 2-disc set, or b)those who have the 1-disc set, and yet want an anamorphic transfer (I fall into the B group).

In reality, I agree with what others are saying. Instead of re-releasing these movies, why can't we get serviceable versions of classics like Robin Hood or The Black Cauldron or The Sword In The Stone? However, I hold onto the hope that these titles are a mere year or so away. I like the fact that Disney is attempting to bring consistency to it's line of DVDs (as this and Tarzan proves), however I think that those titles that are not yet released in a good form should be the first to come (Mind you, Disney might be holding onto a few of them ie. Hercules and The Hunchback of Notre Damme in order to put "X Anniversary Edition" all over the package)

I heard that they were going to but I never saw anything about it announced.

TENG:SE is coming out to support it's sequel Kronk's New Groove.
Like what other forum member said Disney should give 2 Disc treatment to The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules or Robin Hood.
When will Lilo and Stitch get it's 2 disc treatment?

I feel this way too. I also think that Disney is trying to re-release everything sooner then planned, so they can jump into blue-ray faster. I think that all the classics will receive great editions by the end of 2006 to get into blue-ray faster. And I think that the 2007 Platinums (and maybe the 2006 one's) will be moved up also.

I just returned my 1-disc version of TENG which I bought recently. I'll surely wait for this 2-disc TENG: The New Groove Edition in October. :D

I'm pretty sure the single disc is anamorphic. The back cover of mine says Enhanced for 16x9 Televisions.

I'm on the fence about this SE. The OCD part of me wants the 2-disc because it's new! it's spiffy! it's swell! it's one of my favorite Disney movies! it's not in a stupid double-wide case! On the other hand, the single disc I have is fine--the video is fine and it even has DTS audio. It's rare that I will watch special features more than once.

I'm also on the fence about the Tarzan SE. I got the single disc on eBay a few months ago (for only $17.50 shipped!) and I hate upgrading/double dipping so soon after a purchase. OTOH, if the SE has 5.1 audio instead of just 5.0 I might be more tempted.

And Toy Story and Toy Story 2 SEs, too? I have the single discs that I got in a 3-pack with A Bug's Life a couple of years ago. I replaced ABL with the 2-disc once I realized my single disc was non-anamorphic. I'm tempted to get the new TS SEs because all my other Pixar DVDs are 2-discs. The OCD strikes again!

Worst case, I could just buy all the new SEs and give the old ones to my family for Christmas or something--assuming my wife lets me have that much money. :) October will be an expensive month with Cinderella, ENG, Tarzan, Batman, and The Wizard of Oz.
