I decided to buy the CoA Space Aliens today while looking at my local Toys 'R' Us for hockey cards. It was 30 dollars, but it was kind of worth it to get another addition to the Toy Story Collection of toys (Now if I only had the money for both RC and Rex).

My RC arrived today! Yay! I still havent opened the box though (not even the shipping box) as I've been busy all day, but tonight I will. Wish I had batteries, ha.

Gotta say though, this is the item from the collection that has gotten a lot of negative reviews on Amazon.com. People haven't been happy with it. Of course, they're buying it for their kids to play with, and I'm buying it more as a display piece that I'll only occasionally play with, ha.

Big Bad Toy Store has them up for pre-order: http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/sear ... tory+12%22

They're very reliable, but sometimes their prices aren't too great (like with these, I'm hoping that they're around $50 like Buzz and Woody were).

Supposedly they're due to arrive May 10th.

I still wonder about Hamm and Mr. Potato Head though!

Jeez, that's quite a wait, and yeah, I've been wondering about Potato Head and Hamm for a while now. Anyway, I doubt Jessie will cost more than Woody did, but who knows about Bullseye...

Finally I can log in.

I've enjoyed reading everyones post, as I have been acquiring the Collection and waiting on Potato head. The Hamm pictured at the Expo is correct scale, as pictures show it next to others in the Collection line, and he is that big in the film. The 95 hamm is very small, and I think the prices he has been getting on ebay is a ripoff to fans. You know its the fans who are bidding that high, because they want Hamm that much. I;ve had the first one since it came out 95 one, and didnt know how "rare" they were. Regardless, its not for sale, and never will be. All those 95 toys have known "us" for too long, so I hope no one trashes their "oldies" hahah.

I'm hoping to find someone with a 3D printer, that can print me out an accurate Slinky Dog, since it doesnt look likely that one will be out.

I also wanted to see if anyone has customized their collection toys to make them better? For example, restring woodys hat with plastic or nylon "string" as opposed to the non-accurate lace thread. Also, things like unseam woodys arms, to correct the stuffing, giving it the movie shapes, restitching the vest tighter to get the accurate row of 2 squares down the middle and the overlapping collar OVER the vest.
I am currently working on my Woody now, as everything on the available product was amazing, but with all the "little things" it will look EXACTLY like in the movie, rather than very, very close to.
Same for the others in the line. IE: repaint rex, detatch his jaw and make removable, etc. He's actually a hard plastic toy in the film, yet the Collection one is cast in vinyl, which throws off the very accurate sculpt. The way the light hits vinyl, as opposed to hard plastic is very different.
Any thing I do, I am documenting so that other folks like myself, can do the same to theirs if they wish.

Tyler

Modifying toys.....wasn't that done in the first Toy Story by Sid? Who apparently is on facebook  :?

Just don't torture your modified Toys or Woody might get very angry :P

I guess I was mistaken for Sid, by description only. I think the pics will do themselves justice. I do sculpting and FX for a living, not just a kid tinkerer, even though I am haha.

On the eyebrows, I have them, always hated them. Always "hated" that potato head. I'm waiting on the Collection one, so I can cast his eyes seperate, etc, but I dont want to be labeled as a toy killer/sid, so I'll keep that to myself and be the only one with a potato head how it should be (unless they fix the damn eyes).

Also working on a sculpt of "Babyface/Spiderbaby" to root, fix with glass eye, and set atop a real erector set body as he appears in the film.
I've also got most of Slinky Dog sculpted too (did things like change the snout, eyes, collar, changed the entire legs and feet).
I'm also working on CNC machine plans for the "Mr. Lightyear Needs more tape" robot, with working lights etc.

Thanks
Tyler

How do you plan to fix the eyes? Sculpting your own or separating them is one thing, but there's going to be a hole there no matter what. meaning your either going to have his eyes off center, or have a bullet hole basically between his eyes. Do you think you can patch up the home seamlessly?

slave2moonlight, congrats on completing Wave 1!! :D

And that is so cool TylerHaslett!! You're very talented there. The only modification I would consider on my toys would be somehow putting a squeaker in the aliens. That's probably impossible although they do have that little opening on the bottom. I still think that is the only flaw with the original line is that they don't squeak -- the Disney website still claims they do!!

[quote="ToyStoryFan"]slave2moonlight, congrats on completing Wave 1!! :D

Thanks. :)

Incidentally, has anyone posted a list of the inaccuracies of wave 1 yet? While I'm happy with the toys anyway, I do think it'd be interesting. I AM a bit annoyed about the non-squeaking aliens, and Rex's lockjaw is upsetting too, ha. Worst is probably the Bucket of Soldiers though, to me. Isn't it supposed to be bigger? And at least they could have put the Toy Story logo on a plastic sleeve that could be removed. Actually, that bit about the logo on the soldier bucket is probably the biggest complaint for me.

Yeah, its supposed to be quite a bit bigger. probably by a few inches. but I can kind of understand why they didn't do it that way. why make the bucket any larger than it needs to be to hold 72 soldiers? there would have been a lot of extra empty space for no reason, and it would take shelf space or other toys/buckets.

a lot of inaccuracies are from physical impossibilities that a lot of people don't understand, so if someone does make a list it should probably be divided into two, ones that can be done, and ones that could not.

Kyle, I had planned to fix the hole (while also the other two holes) with Aves sculpt, retextured via a texture stamp taken off the toys texture, and then color match that area, should be seamless.

Then with the new eyes, I can have them removable as they'll have pegs, etc. May make the eyebrows seperate with magnets as they give off alot of character.

That is, if it ever comes out.

Also, Bo Peep, doesnt seem she will be produced. But I think I'l do a few kits down the road for hobbyists (lamp base, accurate 1:1 bo peep, sheep). But first I'm working on Slink. Slink has all new sculpted feet, and legs, along with new sculpt head, and neck, will have full leather ears (no white backs) etc.
My goal is to make an Andys room facade (hardwood flooring, partial wall with trim) to display the Toys in front of. I will document the build here if anyone is intereste.d

Hmm, well if you ever manage to do the potato head mod, I wonder if you could sell kits for people like me. of course we would have to drill our own holes, but it sounds like the rest would be pretty simple to apply.

And there shouldn't be any doubt he'll get released.

Its hard for me to imagine it being completely seamless though...

by TylerHaslett
If the right person was tinkering with it, it defiantley can be seamless. I cover up seams for a living on plastics, silicone, etc. And know it can be done.
Something like a conversion kit, I would do a mold of the potato heads hole, and make a plug that fits directly in. There might be a faint black circle, but that way if folks didnt want to mess up their potato heads the plug is removed and the 2foreyes can go back in. The newly drilled eye holes would be covered by the existing eyes.

I really do hope Thinkway fixes the eye problem, but if they dont I am not at all stressing about it because that problem is the only problem on him. I know we ALL we dissapointed in NEVER owning a true Toy Story potato head. The 95's were always all off, but potato head the most by far. I have no clue why they didnt release him with his 80's bendy arms like he has in the movie. At least THAT part would've looked decent.

That's awesome! I've always wanted to get a house with several spare bedrooms that I could do up in themes, one being a recreation of Andy's room with all of his toys, the wall paper, and everything, and to also get those two Mike and Sulley full size characters they used to have in movie theaters to put in the closet as a surprise for whoever opens it, ha. They turn up on Ebay sometimes.

Guys, check it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mE9ekT2Kq0

Mr Potato Head has Two eye holes despite having fused together eyes. This means people like Tyler and I wont need to drill or patch any holes. How cool is that? giving him separate eyes should now be as simple as making new pieces and sticking them in.

They better have it so you can press him down to hide his "legs" though or that annoy the crap outta me. I guess we can disassemble it and saw off the access if we really wanted to, but we shouldn't need to. I'm hoping pressing him down turns him off. Seems logical to me.

Sadness. This is going in a direction I don't like. They seem to be focusing these more at the kids than the collectors now. Jeez, all I want is a real Mr. Potato Head designed to look like the film version. I don't need a robot. And because of all that stuff, it'll be 50 bucks?
