Or just do what I suggested and release Fantasia as a Disney Treasure
At least then the appreciative half of the public would buy it
That's what is so sad about Disney at the moment. Unless the movie stars Miley, Selena, Demi, or the Dull As *ahem* Jonas Brothers, they don't seem to be in any great rush to consider most of the catalogue titles.

Fantasia isn't a catalog title. A catalog title is an older film that the general public doesn't really remember, i.e: not a classic. Some examples of catalog titles include Toby Tyler, Summer Magic, and One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing. Modern DVDs, such as tv show compilations or Jonas Brothers concerts, aren't catalog titles and they make a lot of money for Disney.
And Disney is one of the few studios still releasing catalog titles to DVD. Granted, almost all of those are through the Disney Movie Club, but they eventually hit retail shelves, unlike Warner Bros. print-on-demand service with their catalog films, which are way overpriced.
Fantasia will be released again in a great 2-disc or 3-disc set. Disney never said they weren't releasing it, but that's how a lot of people on here act.

I like the idea of Many Adventures being a diamond edition release.

I've always thought that Dumbo, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Alice in Wonderland, The Sword in the Stone, The Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Rescuers, The Fox and the Hound, The Black Cauldron, The Great Mouse Detective, Oliver & Company, The Rescuers Down Under, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, & Tarzan should get better treatment. I'm not saying all of these titles should receive platinum/diamond status, but they should at least get decent dvd/blu-ray releases.
However, of these titles, I would love it if Dumbo, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, & Alice in Wonderland would get added to the platinum/diamond line and for Aladdin to remain in the line.

Honestly? That's disgusting. Immature, really. Just because many people here prefer DVD to their precious Blu-Ray? Really? They need to get their heads out of their asses.
MEMBER #1: "Oh, hey look! The people over at UD say Dumbo is coming to DVD and Blu-Ray in 6 months!"

(remorsefully): "Okay."
Scaps, I could rant about those quotes you just posted from those users, but I feel like that would get me even angrier and would inevitably lead me to uncontrollably using language that could possibly get me banned. So my rant stops here.

I would love to see that happen too, but unless they switch to 3 per year or drop some previously released titles, there isn't room for the schedule to repeat itself and still maintain the 7 year rotation schedule. Here is how I predict the schedule will pan out over the next 7 years.
Spring 2010: Dumbo
Fall 2010: Beauty and the Beast
Spring 2011: Fantasia/Fantasia 2000
Fall 2011: The Lion King
Spring 2012: Aladdin (or possible replacement title)
Fall 2012: Cinderella
Spring 2013: Bambi
Fall 2013: The Little Mermaid
Spring 2014: Lady and the Tramp
Fall 2014: The Jungle Book
Spring 2015: Peter Pan
Fall 2015: Sleeping Beauty
Spring 2016: 101 Dalmatians
Fall 2016: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Spring 2017: Pinocchio

I really don't think Dumbo is going to "replace" any title. I think it's being released in Feb. as a special edition and Fantasia/2000 will be released as diamonds in March as scheduled. If this is correct, this means that Disney is finally releasing non-platinum/diamond titles on Blu-ray!!

That would be great news, although the press release that Luke got the news from did say "Platinum Edition."

I'm gonna say it again. I think that the Platinum line and the Diamond line are gonna run at the same time. Maybe they're starting something new with Diamonds in March and October, and Platinums in February and September? It's a thought.

I think the best approach to this is wait until some time Monday and I am sure by then we will know much more answers about the grey areas of what Disney is planning for Dumbo and the diamond/platinum edition etc etc (no pun intended due to Dumbo's Color being grey

).....because we can speculate all we want....and some times speculation is perceived as the reality rather than what the truth is.....
So I propose a wait and see apporach...if not Monday I am sure it will be sometime this week things will unravel and we will know what's going on for the future of all DACs....whether they be gold/platinum diamon or stupidly named edition

just a guess...given I doubt we will hear anything about it by 8 pm central time in the USA by tonight...I meant we are more likely to learn more by Monday since its a work day as oppose to in 30 minutes...and its not small news either so I would think this will be out or more info will be released not only by UD but other sites....this isn't a release date change for Handy Manny or Phineas and Ferb....so I would think we should know more by tomorrow....given this is quite a big annoucement....

Oh, I hope so! And I agree, this is HUGE news, specially since Fantasia was the one to come this march... so Disney may have some explanations to do... but I do believe, like you, that we may hear some news about it this week! Hopefully tomorrow!

I'm not keeping my fingers crossed. A lot of things(not just disney)are speculated weeks before an official announcement.

Same here. I'm just gonna wait for review copies of Snow White to be sent out and hear from that.

I really hope Disney clears some of this confusion soon. (Although I think they may wait until after Snow White's release.) I have no idea what is going on but I sincerely hope that Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 still get the Diamond/Platinum treatment come March. And Dumbo just be a Special Edition or something.

Seeing how Alice in Wonderland and Dumbo are one of disney's most famous films (moreso than some of the PEs, at least where I was brought up), I was surprised they weren't in the original lineup. I guess fame =/= sales when it comes to disney dvds.

Personally, I'h hoping the Platinum line continues with Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland, Hercules, Hunchback, Bedknobs blah blah blah...while Fantasia and Beauty and the Beast and the rest are Diamond Blu-Ray only editions.

I can respect the fact that you personally prefer BD but why would you want them to be "BD only"? (Especially since you've gone on record of strongly disliking Beauty and the Beast).
Do you get some thrill out of the idea of titles being "exclusives" that the majority of the population won't be able to watch?
I'm sticking with DVD, but I don't get any joy when releases are DVD only, because I have friends who collect BD. I'd like collectors of both formats to be happy.
I hate to say it, but post like yours don't help ease the whole DVD vs. BD argument. Why not be happy enjoying the format you like, and let DVD fans enjoy the format they like.
On the bright side, though, I highly doubt they'll be "BD only"!
And I was actually about to say something positive about BD, too. I was going to say that if they bring out more animated classics on BD while simultaneously re-releasing them as a 2-disc DVD set (like they are apparently doing with Dumbo), this could actually be a win-win situation for fans of both formats. BD fans would get possible titles like Dumbo, Alice, Hunchback, and Hercules on BD, and DVD fans would have the chance to upgrade these to a 2-disc DVD set with better bonus features than previous issues. (yes, I know Alice already has a 2-disc DVD but the next one will be better)
But this will only happen if Disney gets over the stupid idea that DVD must be phased out/dumbed down for BD to survive. They will have the best success and the best goodwill with fans of both camps if more releases get the Dumbo treatment (available on BD with 2-Disc DVD also available.)
