It should be noted that DVD Town don't always use direct screencaps for the "screenshots" sections.

Those can't possibly be screenshots from the actual movie, they have to be promo artworks or something...

Yeah, I don't think those are actual screencaps from the DVD. I agree with Pyoko; they look like bits of promo artwork.

That was a good review, but that person really should've done some research before diving into the DVD. He said that the DVD kept everything the 60th Anniversary set had, and that the Celebrating Dumbo featurette & DVD storybook were new, and we all know that's false. I did laugh when he called Fastplay a "deceptive ploy", though. Man, he nailed it.

And the purist in me is sad that they didn't include a restored mono track for this release.

I don't think DVD Town ever does screencaps. Those are just publicity images that Disney has made available to the press.

It doesn't look like it but I thought I'd ask anyway: does this new edition have the original mono soundtrack?

So wait, I'm confused. Are the trailers included or aren't they? I keep seeing conflicting reports.

There is one screenshot from the new edition, and a small comparison of the transfers (heavily jpeg compressed unfortunately)
Guess this one is a real screenshot ;)

Trailers are gone and there is no Mono track, as far as I know. Aaron's review will be including at least one pair of screencaps (probably two), with an opportunity to see them at full 720x480 and not so very compressed. So, yeah, you can think of these other reviews as appetizers.

Well, crud. Why do they feel they have to do this anyway, how hard can it be to add another track to the disc? Or do they have some sort of weird policy to only include original soundtracks on PEs or something?

Words cannot express how anxious I am for your review, Aaron. I can't wait to have this new-transfer-picture-quality mystery solved.
Pyoko wrote:Or do they have some sort of weird policy to only include original soundtracks on PEs or something?
Well, they put the original mono soundtrack on Alice in Wonderland's DVD, which wasn't a Platinum. Of course, that was back in the days when Disney would give us a random 2-disc set just for the hell of it. Sadly, those days are gone.

And if it weren't for the absence of the two trailers, I would have no regrets about buying this edition instead of the 60th Anniversary set.

Dammit, no trailers AND no original mono track? Disney's logic strikes again!

It'll be interesting to see what there is to say about the picture quality. The previous DVD may not be the greatest, but I tend to feel that some people even add to the problem by blaming "Dumbo" for not looking like it could have been made yesterday - with modern computer technology...

Are there any changes in the framing? Here are 2 screenshots from the older release: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... 853#133853

Could we have corresponding frames from the new release, please?

There's minimal change to the framing. The 60th Anniversary Edition actually seems to show a few pixels more on all four sides.

Your patience is admirable.

It's done and has been sent in to Luke. I will be sending him the screencaps soon and once he has done the formatting, it will be posted. It should most likely be up sometime tonight.

I've been on UD constantly every hour checking for Aaron's Dumbo DVD Review. I've never been more excited for a Disney DVD.

And yes, I've tried to look for the page hoping it was done, and that Luke and Aaron was only doing this to torture us.

Luke will know what I'm talking about when I say, I tried:
dumbo-specialediton
dumbo-bigtopedition
dumbo-bigtop
dumbo-big
...

The list is endless...of course I gave up after 20 minutes of guessing.

It's the third one, but it will probably be another hour, I'm afraid. Nearing the final stages (screencaps, captions, formatting)... 8)

I'll stay up and wait for this one. Hope it'll be any minute now! :D

You should switch the screencaps comparing the 60th with the Big Top just for kicks. :P
