Maybe they'll reanimate "If I Never Knew You" after complaints of it being too stationary to add scenes of Pocahontas's and John Smith's hair being intertwined.

Also in this DVD release the Native Americans will be fully restored to their original blueness and Flit will be an enormous flying lizard.

Strange... the title of the thread said it was about The Great Mouse Detective.

I came across this in my search for a Great Mouse Detective pressbook. I don't know if it has ever been posted on this forum before, but I found it amusing...

http://www.drawn2gether.com/blog/catego ... detective/

If you click on the phony memo it enlarges to show you the generic titles of the DACs they came up with. Anyway, I thought I'd pass this along.

It got me wondering also, what was GMD originally released under? The Adventures of the Great Mouse Detective or The Great Mouse Detective. I think in Europe it was released under Basil, The Great Mouse Detective, but I'm not sure.

Changing the title of the movie - another spectacular contribution to animation history from the venerated intellectual known as Jeffrey "I'm the new Walt Disney" Katzenberg.

You don't wanna know what that means in Dutch...
 That fits, seeing as how he chopped the film...
Goliath wrote:What I want to know is: WHY didn't Disney carry over the scrapbook from the previous edition? I mean, "bonus features" are awfully meager as it is, but why not throw it in? I know a *real* art gallery is too much to ask for since this film was not produced between 1937-1967 or 1989-2000, but STILL...! Why not the scrapbook? It's not that I desperatelt *want* it, or need it, or won't buy the dvd without it... It just DOESN'T make sense. There's absolutely NO valid reason to exclude it!...
I agree. The picture gallery has been the thing that I've been worried about for TBC's next release...if TGMD doesn't have it, I can't imagine TBC having it, and I'm glad that I didn't sell my Gold Collection TBC DVD...especially since the new edition hasn't come out yet.

Thanks for posting that- I was meaning to search for that, and now I don't have to! :thumb:

Thanks for the reply. I think I like Basil of Baker Street better though as a title. Too bad they didn't go with that.

I quite like it too. Probably a GMD fan site somewhere out there using this rejected title as its own in tribute.

Well, Blu-Ray can live with DVD around. Blu-Ray plays all the old DVDs and upscales them as best it can. DVD is 1990's tech that was always nothing more than a stop-gap between VHS and High-Def. Blu Ray and DVD can co-exist quite nicely (unlike Harry and Voldemort).

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this, but...

For this DVD, I'd like to see Disney present the film with the original 1986 title "The Great Mouse Detective", but I'm pretty sure the film will still have the 1992 re-issue title "The Adventures of the Great Mouse Detective", just like all other home video releases.

Also, why must they include the "Blu-ray is Suite!" and "Learn How to Take Your Favorite Disney Movies on the Go" promos? This film isn't being released on Blu-ray, and this release isn't coming with a digital copy, so why should they even include them on here?

This may be coming a week sooner than we thought as the official release calendar says 4-6-10 for this release! Who knows?

This comes out next week! Who's getting it?! I don't have it on DVD at all and it would be about 8 years (That's how long it's been since it's last DVD release) before it gets a BD release and I'm not going to wait till then to pick it up. I would like to own a decent copy of it before I enter my 30s.

I'm getting it. As with the Black Cauldron I want the movie & would prefer it in BLU but won't wait for Disney to get around to it. They do such magnificent blu rays but unfortunately, so few.

I'm getting it! I really want to add this to my shelf. It's been so long since I have bought a Disney DVD and I can finally be one film closer to finishing my collection.
