Colin Jacobson has posted his review of the DVD:
http://dvdmg.com/sleepingbeautyplatinum.shtml
Something bizarre I noticed was that for the audio commentary paragraph, he describes the audio documentary from the 2003 SE rather than the confirmed one with John Lasseter and Andreas Deja. I'm pretty sure it was just an error on his part from copying and pasting elements from the old review, but I have to admit I'm curious. Only the BD press release elaborates on the commentary participants; the DVD one doesn't. Could it be possible that the DVD really does retain the old commentary while the new one is a BD-exclusive? If so, that makes the inclusion of the DVD with the BD set more valuable.
Also, the galleries on the new DVD (as expected) don't contain the commentary bits. What's odd is that some sections on the new DVD contain more stills than the old one, but other sections contain less. Observe:
2003 Special Edition:
Storyboards (42 Stills)
Concept Art (142 Stills)
Character Design (217 Stills)
Layouts and Backgrounds (83 Stills)
The Sleeping Beauty Storybook (15 Stills)
Posters (15 Stills)
Disneyland Walkthrough (14 Stills)
Live-Action Photographs (23 Stills)
Behind the Scenes Photographs (27 Stills)
Publicity (21 Stills)
Merchandise (18 Stills)
Theme Parks (26 Stills)
2008 Platinum Edition:
Visual Development (150 Stills)
Character Design (181 Stills)
Storyboard Art (80 Stills)
Layouts and Backgrounds (55 Stills)
Live-Action Reference (70 Stills)
The Sleeping Beauty Storybook (25 Stills)
Production Photos (51 Stills)
Publicity (34 Stills)
So to break it down:
* The PE's "Visual Development" is another name for "Concept Art," and it actually adds 8 stills.
* The PE's "Character Design" drops 36 stills from the SE.
* The PE's "Storyboard Art" adds 38 stills to the SE's collection.
* The PE's "Layouts and Backgrounds" drops 28 stills from the SE.
* The PE adds 47 stills (!) to "Live-Action Reference," 10 stills to the "Sleeping Beauty Storybook," and 24 stills to the "Production Photos."
* The PE combines the "Posters" and "Publicity" galleries from the SE, though if it included everything, there should be 36 stills not 34.
The "Disneyland Walkthrough," "Merchandise," and "Theme Parks" galleries have been dropped on the PE. The Disneyland one is understandable considering we're getting that nifty feature in place of it, but the other two are disappointing.
Of course, it's possible that Colin miscounted (his gallery numbers for the SE are wildly different than Escapay's, so I decided to use Escapay's for this comparison). I guess we'll find out for sure when the UD review comes up.
