Man the commericals for the DVD are so lame. I thought they would be like the Aristocrats commericals, but nope pretty lazy imo.

I wonder if the Collectors Set were selling bad that's why they made no more? They were really neat.

Mutant Enemy, the book (if its like the Jungle Book one) will be totally worthless. I wouldn't worry. I bet some of your US store exclusives will be of better value.

Wow I totally lucked out today. The drugstore near my house had copies on the shelf and I bought one without any trouble. Paid about 8 dollars more than I would have at Wal-Mart, but I don't care.

It looks freaking amazing! Wish it was in widescreen though. The shots we had of the matted version from The Jungle Book's mini-doc looked truly astounding.

My point was not the quality of the book, but the fact that the US isn't getting it. I do not think a plush toy/zipper pull is an acceptable alternative to the collectable book, which could for all accounts be a book full of never-before-seen photos (which I dont believe to be worthless).

and Ichabod...Would it be so far-fetched to think that if the domestic total for the film is twice the foreign intake combined, that it would be more popular in the states? Note that I wrote, such as, meaning an example was to follow, which was Latin America and the U.K. AMONG others. I would expect U.K. interest in this film to be more than some countries but definitely not more than the United States. Numbers alone prove this to be true. Go to http://www.boxofficemojo.com to see for yourself. That is why this American movie, set in Britain is more popular in the United States than anywhere else!!!

Widdi, what drugstore did you pick up your copy at? Maybe I should check my local drugstores, it seems a lot of them have them up for sale early.

Thanks for revealing that info, I'm guessing Disney will be giving Shoppers a penalty now and don't ever expect early releases on the shelves there again. Why didn't you send a PM ?

According to the pictures on page 5 of this thread, the book has storyboards and behind-the-scenes photos in it, so I wouldn't discard it as worthless.

I doubt it. There are 4 different store locations within driving distance from me. Disney would have to figure out which one I bought it at to give them any sort of penalty. And that's if Disney ever found out, or even cared that a few copies made it out to people early.

I was there again this morning and they were no longer on the shelf. Either they sold them all or someone noticed the mistake.

I think Disney has better things to do that to sift through a message board to try and find where one little convenience store sold a copy of a DVD a week early.

The Jungle Book book was absolutely worthless, the book just had pictures from the actual film. It was the nice casing that was good. Hopefully the Dalmatians book will be better.

Anyway if there was good enough sales for the Collector's Gift Sets the US DVD sets then surely Disney would have continued them? For a Gift Set that was about 10 pounds more expensive in some places the Jungle Book gift set sold pretty well here, infact in many places I go to it's still in the charts while the normal edition wasn't and that's nearly 4 months after it's release. Does the US have that much demand?

I don't know, with Disney common sense never dictates. There is a lot of demand for most of their properties on film and TV, such as Song of the South, Boy Meets World, So Dear to My Heart, Zorro, all of the neglected Disney Afternoon shows (Bonkers, Goof Troop, Quack Pack, The Little Mermaid animated series, Aladdin animated series, etc.) and Disney Channel shows (Kim Possible, Lizzie McGuire, That's So Raven, etc.). For a company that specializes in marketing, they really know nothing about it. I mean why on earth isn't there a season 1 of Hannah Montana available on DVD. Hannah Montana is Disney Channel's biggest show ever and they are sitting on it. It's an awful show, but still.

Anyway to get back on-topic...

All I meant by my post(s) is that if something is offered in one country it should be available in all countries (at least on a website). Would it really have been that hard for them to slip the Region 1 DVD into the giftset and sell it on the Disney website for American buyers? I'm beating a dead horse here and if Disney doesn't want my money for the gift set I will be glad to buy the standard version, it's their loss. Oh and I knew it was set in the UK (wasn't sure if that was a joke or not).

I received my copy today here in Finland. It was ordered ordered from DVDPacific.

Unfortunately it is not widescreen but 4 : 3 fullscreen. Otherwise, the image quality looks rather good.

Amy how did you get yours early?? are you like reveiving it or... kinda confused, I recall when Aristocats came to video back in 1996/97 (somewhere round there) it came out a day early....

She's an interviewer for UD and the interviewers/reporters/reviewers get miscellaneous benefits every so often.
