According to The Rotoscopers, it looks like they've been uninvited from "Frozen" screenings, because of their reviews of the film.
Avatar says hi.DisneyEra wrote:Well, it's official. Frozen is now one of WDAS most controversial films ever! Here we are in mid June & Disney refuses to show anything about this film. And if anyone trys to follow the film or report on it, Disney will shun you. I'm at a point were i'm sick of this shit! If thats how they feel about this film, then they can piss-off! Pixar/Dreamworks/Blue Sky should take notice: this is not how you market a major animated film.

But what exactly did they do? All they did was just talk about the film. They didn't post any pics of Frozen. Kido has also talked about what he's seen. Didn't they have images of Hans that they've never shown? To band people over just talk is way to much. They never revealed the ending or anything.DisneyAnimation88 wrote:DisneyEra wrote:Well, it's official. Frozen is now one of WDAS most controversial films ever! "Most controversial films ever"? That's a bit of an over-reaction, I agree it's harsh to ban this particular group from the screening but from they've said on Twitter it sounds like they've violated some kind of agreement in reviewing preview screenings of Frozen and other films (I think Planes is mentioned). They say that they were not supposed to have done a review of the footage they saw so they seem aware that they've done something they were not permitted to. It might be harsh to ban them but there you go, Disney are obviously cracking down on spoilers that leak out from preview screenings and the Rotoscopers say that they aren't the only ones to be uninvited to future screening.
Really? You comparing the highest grossing fim of all time (unadjusted) to the latest Disney princess film?PatrickvD wrote:Avatar says hi.DisneyEra wrote:Well, it's official. I guess that's why the mainstream pubic has switched over to Pixar/Dreamworks for their animated fix. They know what their doing & don't hide their films in production. They're proud of their work, & that's why their films continually out gross WDAS films on a yearly basis. Frozen will finish a distant 3rd to The Croods & Monsters U. Look what happened with Blue Sky's Epic. That film is set to be the lowest grossing film from Blue Sky ever, surpassing Robots!UmbrellaFish wrote:I've closely followed the development of every Disney movie since Bolt, when it was still Chris Sanders' Ametican Dog. Frozen will come in good time-- and then it will go, and we'll obsess over something else. 'Tis the tragical life of a Disney fan. Get used to it.
From what the Rotoscopers have said it's not what they said, the problem is that they said anything at all. Judging from their responses on Twitter they knew beforehand that they were not permitted to publicise anything about the screenings they previewed but did so anyway so they've been uninvited from future screenings. It does seem harsh but it sounds like they've knowingly broken certain conditions that allowed them to view footage and have been punished for that, the nature of what they said is irrelevant if they knew that they were not allowed to say anything in the first place. That's Disney's prerogative, they will publicise the film and it will no doubt receive plenty of coverage in the run-up to it's release.DisneyEra wrote:But what exactly did they do? Exactly. I wasn't talking about us members/Disney fans, I was talking about the mainstream movie going public. Most people have never even heard of Frozen, much less care. The teaser with Monsters U will be the pubic's first knowledge of Frozen's existence.UmbrellaFish wrote:You know, DVDizzy has a large membership, but I'd hardly say we represent the mainstream public.![]()
Like the vast majority of ticket buyers even care that they haven't seen a picture of Hans five months in advance.
And that's not a problem. Few people decide to see an animated movie more than a month in advance-- especially a winter themed one released in the holiday season.DisneyEra wrote:The teaser with Monsters U will be the pubic's first knowledge of Frozen's existence.
Don't forget Despicable Me 2 as the first movie made around $540 million worldwide, so Frozen will likely finish fourth unless Turbo somehow becomes a major hit.DisneyEra wrote:

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the point of folks like the Rotoscopers participating in preview screenings if they aren't allowed to talk? Is it Disney soliciting feedback about story ideas or something?DisneyAnimation88 wrote:From what the Rotoscopers have said it's not what they said, the problem is that they said anything at all. I don't think Epic's performance has anything to do with lack of marketing. The first trailer for that movie came out in July of last year.DisneyEra wrote:Look what happened with Blue Sky's Epic. That film is set to be the lowest grossing film from Blue Sky ever, surpassing Robots!
I think Patrick is recalling that Avatar didn't release its first trailer until August (in fact, the first officially released photo for Avatar also surfaced that same month) and yet it became the highest grossing film of all time. While Frozen definitely won't reach Avatar numbers, Patrick's point is that releasing its first teaser in June and first trailer in August/September is not going to hurt its box-office potential in the slightest.DisneyEra wrote:Really? Could be, I don't know but maybe the Rotoscopers do. Maybe Disney just don't want details leaking out because the film is still several months away from release and will probably undergo changes between now and then. It could just be them getting stricter on leaks, the Rotoscopers say that they aren't the only ones who were uninvited so maybe Disney are just making a point.RyGuy wrote:Forgive my ignorance, but what is the point of folks like the Rotoscopers participating in preview screenings if they aren't allowed to talk?
