I'm not sure it will be nominated though. It doesn't really have a story; it's just pure fanservice/celebration of WDAS. I don't see members of the branch being particularly warm towards such a film, especially since more independent artists outside the studio system tend to participate in the nomination process.
I don’t know. Feels to me like it has a story where they’re trying to get all the characters out of their pictures and computers in time for a group photo and this short is a tribute to the late Burny Mattinson. So, I wouldn’t be so sure it has no story.

Oh, I didn't take that into account. The short was very well received at Annecy and Destination D23, but those where mainly attended by Disney and animation fans. Academy members might have a different reaction. We'll have to wait and see. The critic reviews might give us some indication of its awards chances.

Damn that is one house of mouse looking Ursula my lord. What on earth haha…

I guess Eric Goldberg couldn’t animate every single frame lol. Also the re-used voice work… a bit lazy?

Mickey and Minnie look fantastic though. Very smooth.

I still hope this short plays in theaters with Wish, given its G-rating by the MPAA means it was meant for theaters

Why does it matter at this point?

Maybe because it will look better on the big screen, plus it would have made sense to show both short and movie in theaters as both celebrate Disney's 100th Anniversary.

Aurora, Phillip and John Henry look horrible as well. Like House of Mouse level of quality :headshake: The three fairies from Sleeping Beauty don't look great either. If you compare their animation here to the one in Enchanted Tales, this one's considerably worse. If this is the best 2D animation modern Disney can give us then I don't want it. :glare:

I don't know. Repeating the same gags from their respective movies seems more lazy to me.

Too stinking bad. Take it or you get no hand-drawn animation at all. Also, they don't look bad at all. It's really your judgement, attitude, and opinion that's bad, worthless, and invalid.

Thank you.

NEXT.

It looks very interesting. I was really excited when they said October 15, but then, they said it would air on ABC. I hope they bring it to Disney+ soon. I agree, the characters may not be on model precisely, but I was too excited to care, it looks really great. I like how they combined the 2D characters with the 3D ones. Really nice.

I also saw it a bit as a fanservice move tbh, its a bit like the Ralph 2 situation, where I was also mostly drawn to see the film because the whole "Oh My Disney" Scene. Of course Im still looking forward to the short, seeing Characters like Stitch, Rapunzel and more, but it would have been even more touching and braided into the 100 year celebration if WDAS would have made an animated short of the life of Walt Disney with no dialouge, kinda like in the veins of the Up montage: how he grew up, his dreams and goals and all the things he worked for and stuggled with to fulfill his animation dream that led to the studio (and what the studio stands for: hope & big dreams), where they could end it with Walt Disney drawing Mickey Mouse on paper, who briefly comes alive or smiles at him idk and this being the moment Walt realizes this will be the start of his dream coming to fruition, and the short ending with a quote like "It all started with a mouse" or "if you can dream it, you can do it" This would have been really touching and this would appeal more to the Academy I think. Just imagining that Walt Disney was a simple guy who had this big dream that he achieved through determination and hope... he is so inspiring.

agree they were really pleasent to see and looked really accurate :) . I also think Bambi and Peter Pan looked nice, but im gonna fully judge when I see more of them once its released. While the 2d characters dont reallyyyyyy look like themselves, Im glad atleast the 3d characters wont have any problem at all

Some of the characters do look a little off-model, but I think a part of that also has to do with frame on which you happen to pause. The characters don't exactly look pretty all the time in their original films either. I didn't even really notice it either the first time through, though that might have just been because I couldn't see through my tears

No. They should put it on Disney+ AFTER it plays in theaters with Wish.

Surprised how many of you think so many of them look off model. The only one that stuck out to me was Ursula. And the last shot of goofy, while I wouldn't call it off model, looks noticeably cheaper than the rest somehow. Maybe the lighting or something.

yes, but I think D23ExpoVisitor25 wants them to use this to help Wish's box office. If its on disney plus, less people will feel inclined to see it in theaters.

But them showing it on ABC kinda already ruins that. Me, I dont care, I just want to see it asap

It reminds me some GORGEOUS memories from the time I visited the Walt Disney Animation Studios and some other buildings from the neighboring lots of The Disney Company, thanks to the kind soul who works there and took plenty of time on one of his workdays to make my passage there truly magical!

I'm looking forward for this

Luisa carrying the moose from Brother Bear and the cows from Home on the Range!

I see the off-model stuff people are pointing out. But I think I’ll enjoy this. Disney’s really pulling out the red carpet for this one.
