I'm jealous they get such a nice book with the DVD.

Oh wow, thanks Poseidon for those pictures!

Here's a tip, when you guys take pictures, put your camera in "Macro" mode and it will make the picture clearer and define text and images.

Notice that Aladdin isn't listed in the booklet of Platinum Collection, while all of the previous PEs are.

That looks like a cool gift set. Are there any gift sets coming out in North America?

GOOD eyes. I don't know Portugeze and can't see for myself, but if it's true it's really scary and might mean they really don't consider it part of the collection anymore. So Alice really is replacing it? Alice doesn't deserve it, Dumbo does, and Aladdin deserves to keep its spot!

When Dumbo got the 1-disc, it pretty much kissed away it's chances at every getting a platinum.

I don't think Alice in Wonderland doesn't deserve it though. It worthy of the Platinum line, but so is Aladdin. At least we have our Aladdin Platinums! lol

Although, I think Disney may have some trouble marketing Alice in Wonderland. It'll probably get a spring release.

By the way UmbrellaFish, I thought your little convo between husband and soccer wife was very funny, and despairingly similar to things I've actually heard of.

I meant that Dumbo should be Platinum, not that I expect it to be until the far future. It does deserve more than Alice, I think Alice is only popular because of people who like Alice's tales in general, like the artsy or hot topic crowd, and the drug associations, and the creativity and art direction. But critically, it's not considered great, while Dumbo is. Film people love Dumbo.

This is why Alice actually won't be hard to market. Disney knows it has a cultishness about it, and the cool kids will want it. It's like when they made trippy posters for Fantasia and Alice in the 60's or 70's (I forget which) because those movies look like they were made while high (to the druggy kids) and are apparently something to watch while high.

And yes, THANK GOD we DO have Aladdin as a Platinum. Can you say RARE? In time...unless it returns as Platinum later, which I DO hope.

I certainly hope "Aladdin" returns to the roster. That's ridiculous. It's more deserving than "Alice in Wonderland". I'd also rather have "Dumbo" if anything, it could use a solid two-disc set. There has to be SOMETHING they could put on the DVD that they haven't yet.

Amy, thank you so much for posting pictures of the disc art. I really enjoyed seeing it, and I'm glad that Disney made some GOOD cover art for this release.

Poseidon, that is quite a collectors set you got, it looks really great! I'm jealous!

"Aladdin" may not appear on the booklet in Poseidon's copy, but blackcauldron85 posted a picture on page 4 of this tread, and her booklet still has "Aladdin" in the list of previous Platinum Editions.

I'm going to conveniently side-step the discussion of Alice's merits or lack thereof for being a Platinum Edition ( :P ) to say that there's another, more detailed review of the 101 Dalmatians DVD here:

http://dvdmg.com/101dalmatiansplatinum.shtml

I'm really happy to see such a great collection of ads included for the film. Hopefully Disney will do the same for Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio (the former was missing a trailer or two on the 2003 SE, I believe).

Looks like the book is more than film stills this time. I wonder if the UK set will have the same book?

Oh well scratch that. Dumbo is a sweet little movie though, but I just can't see it as a Platinum. For me Alice fits the bill more than Dumbo.

Crap... I should have bought 2 copies of Aladdin! :P

They had a copy of it on the shelf at CVS tonight. I didn’t really want to buy it at first so I just took a picture of it.

But I was like well I could get it a week early. Well anyways I grabbed it and when they went to ring it up it said it couldn’t be sold until next month. I could have gotten it if I pushed the issue but it was $23 and I’m so broke right now. But if any of you guys are wanting to get it early check any small places that sells DVDs. Someone might have put a couple out early.

I just finished watching the film and and the bonus features. Just to let everyone know, there are 13 trailers/tv spots total, and 12 promotional radio spots total. :)

Was there a trailer for either the up coming 45th Anniversary Edition of The Sword In The Stone or Sleeping Beauty PE?

Sleeping Beauty's trailer was already on The Aristocats DVD. If you haven't seen it already, I think it's on youtube.

There was a "Sleeping Beauty" trailer, but not one for "The Sword in the Stone".

(Oh, and I was talking about "101 Dalmatians" trailers in the bonus features section earlier, just in case people didn't realize that.)

I find it absolutely reprehensible that other territories such as Latin America and the UK, can get a gift set of a film that was not produced there, yet the country of origin, cannot. There has to be more demand here than anywhere else for such a box set. American Disney Collector's would kill to have that book.

Anyway, here is a picture of the 101 Dalmatians Movie/Book Pack from the Amazon.co.uk website in English

if you go to DVD Talk's forum, click on DVD Bargain's section and find the ads for next week that are started by a guy named Speedy, you can find out the price of the DVD for next weeks' release. Target has "zipper pulls" whatever that means. Best Buy, a free plush toy. Circuit City, ZILCH (after not getting my GO BARK cards, I'll never buy a Platinum there again). CC has a great price, but Best Buy has the best freebie.
