More Buena Vista TV Shows Coming to DVD in 2004
First posted December 1, 2003 / Last Updated August 18, 2004 (Bonus Features Change)
June 2004 was the planned release date for the complete first season of "Boy Meets World", the successful family sitcom that aired for seven seasons (1993-2000) on ABC's Friday night "TGIF" lineup. The Season 1 boxset will now include a variety of exciting bonus features, and the first 22 episodes, on three discs.
This excellent series provided consistent laughs as it explored life from the perspective of Cory Matthews (Ben Savage), a middle child in a middle-class American family. Cory competes with older brother Eric (Will Friedle) and little sister Morgan (Lily Nicksay) for the attention of his parents Alan and Amy (William Russ and Betsy Randle). When not at home, Cory is trying to make sense of sixth grade, with his mischevious but well-intentioned best friend Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong), nerdy nemesis and teacher's pet Stuart Minkus (Lee Norris), and the otherworldly but sweet Topanga (Danielle Fishel). Things are a little more interesting when your teacher lives next door to you, and that's exactly what Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) does, providing lessons for his neighbor and pupil both in and out of the classroom.
In the first season, Cory takes on a geography bee, late-night baseball watching with his father, an IQ test, playing for the basketball team, the school play, and more. Comical, poignant, and endearing, you won't want to miss the Complete First Season of "Boy Meets World" on DVD.
Bonus features include audio commentaries and a bonus episode from season 4. Several bonus features that were originally announced (outtakes, deleted scenes, behind the scenes making-of featurettes, a "Where are they now?" retrospective) were not included on the final product. The new release date is August 24, 2004, and the set will carry a suggested retail price of $49.99.
Also making its DVD debut is "Popular", the one-hour dramedy that ran for two seasons (1999-2001) on the WB. The first season was to street on July 20, but has been pushed back to September 21.
Kennedy High is the setting and the student body is separated into two classes: the popular and the unpopular. Leslie Bibb stars as Brooke McQueen, head cheerleader and most popular girl in school. Carly Pope is Sam McPherson, of the unpopular type. When their parents marry, the girls have to deal with each other in addition to a variety of high school issues.
The six-disc set will present the series plus audio commentaries, outtakes, behind-the-scenes and making-of featurettes, "Where are they now?" retrospective, and more. SRP is $59.99.
Finally, Season 3 of "Felicity" ("Junior Year") will also now arrive in September, containing the 17 episodes that aired in 2000-01. The third season of the drama about an angst-ridden coed at a New York university includes guest appearances by John Ritter, Matt Doherty, Tyra Banks, Kristin Lehman, Kenan Thompson (Good Burger), and Teri Garr. (The first two seasons of Felicity are now available on DVD at Amazon.com)
The Season 3 set consists of 5 discs, with bonus features including audio commentaries with the cast and crew, a special season 3 retrospective documentary with actor Greg Grunberg, and a "Mad TV" parody of the show. The new release date is September 21 and SRP is $59.99.
