For adults of a certain age, Nickelodeon television shows of yore are a sacred thing. You're pretty much guaranteed to get a reaction from even just the titles of shows. "You Can't Do That on Television." "Double Dare." "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" "The Adventures of Pete and Pete." And so on. As long as your family had cable, you are likely to hold some treasured childhood memories of Nickelodeon that you may very well associate with slime and the color orange.

As beloved as these old children's television shows are, not many of them have made a go of it on DVD. "Clarissa Explains It All" got dropped after one season. The final season of "Pete & Pete" remains unreleased over five years after it was scheduled to reach stores. Rumors of "YCDTOT" never materialized. The phrase "Nick DVD" went on only to refer to marketable modern programming, your Dora the Explorer, Spongebob Squarepants, and iCarly. Happily, there is hope for more classic Nick programming to come to DVD now that Shout! Factory has licensed some series from Nickelodeon and its in-house video distributor Paramount Home Entertainment.

Some '90s and contemporary animated series formerly exclusive to Amazon's CreateSpace made-to-order program are in the works for general retail from Shout! Meanwhile, the studio last week delivered the long-awaited debut of the sitcom "Hey Dude". Nickelodeon's first original live-action series, "Hey Dude" aired five 13-episode seasons from 1989 to 1991. It depicts life at Arizona's Bar None Dude Ranch for a group of teenagers working there for the summer. Shout!'s two-disc DVD collection includes a new interview with Christine Taylor, who began her acting career here as a teenager and is also known for playing Marcia Brady in the two 1990s Brady Bunch movies and other comedy films, including collaborations with her husband Ben Stiller.
