Lansbury hates Bedknobs & Broomsticks?

Next year is the 35th anniversary of BEDKNOBS & BROOMSTICKS.

Such a great film, been waiting for an announcement of a 2-disc Special Edition DVD.

I heard they approached Angela Lansbury a while ago to discuss special features for the DVD. She didn't want anything to do with it, I recall reading.

Where did you hear about this DVD release? Is it possible that we could get a special edition in the same league as Mary Poppins? If so... Me= :D

I don't know if they approached her for the previous release, or for a planned special edition.

Well there is a bonus feature on the current DVD where Lansbury says she is delighted that the film has been such a hit with kids for the last few generations.

Also if she hates the movie why would she give her time to rerecording the voices that were lost when they remasteres it to try and preserve the original cut?

I doubt very highly she hates the movie!

I agree, she wouldn't have participated in the dubbing of missing lines nor the TV special that got ported over to DVD had she disapproved of the film. It's possible that she may not like the theatrical version. She did say in the special how it bothered her and everyone else that so much of the film had been cut for its premiere. I really do hope we get a 2-Disc SE of this next year. It's already gotten a solid release in both its extras and transfer, but it's one of those titles where you know they could do even better. I'm hoping that if an SE is ever released, they get Angela to record a commentary with Richard Sherman ala the Mary Poppins DVD. Considering how Disney releases a new 2-Disc SE of a live action film every year (though just what's coming this year is a mystery), I don't see how they can ignore Bedknobs next year.

Yeah I really don't see Lansbury disliking it... and even if she did, I don't think she'd say so publically... certainly not to the point of saying that she refuses to have anything to do with it. I think Angela loves everything about Disney, as she's one of their go-to's. I'm with everyone else in reallllllly hoping for a special edition soon, and I say the more Lansbury on it, the better! 8)

What was the live-action SE this year?

Earlier in this thread I wrote:Considering how Disney releases a new 2-Disc SE of a live action film every year (though just what's coming this year is a mystery), I don't see how they can ignore Bedknobs next year.
At the rate this year's going, it seems we may not get a 2-disc live action film which is odd considering in other years we've gotten:

2002:
Tron
Old Yeller
Pollyanna
Swiss Family Robinson
The Parent Trap

2003:
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
The Love bug

2004:
Mary Poppins

Plus last year, the original Freaky Friday was apparently going to be a 2-Disc SE until Disney paired it down at the last minute for whatever reason (Disney's website had promised "hours of bonus material", but in the end we got a 20 minute interview and a set-top game). The same thing happened to the Witch Mountain films and Apple Dumpling Gang back in 2003.

I don't know what's the deal with no new 2-Disc SE this year. There's always hope for some sort of surprise release, I suppose. I, personally, would like to see a Treasure Island: SE this year considering it's the film's 55th anniversary.

Speaking of that: I HATE when Disney uses anniversaries to market a film.

10, 25, 50, 75, and 100 is something to celebrate. But 5, 15, 20, 30, 35, 40, 45, 55, 60, 65, 70, 80, 85, 90, and 95 are just RIDICULOUS! And Disney does it ALL THE TIME! They cycle films they haven't promoted in a while and whenever a "5" or a "0" comes along at the end of a number, we get DVDs and pins and plushes. Simply ridiculous. Don't MARKET it that way. If that's how they wanna pick and choose the films, fine. But don't give us GREAT DVDs like MARY POPPINS and say "40th Anniversary Edition" on top. That, to me, is insulting. Are we gonna get a 50th Anniversary edition too? (Probably so on HD-DVD)

Oh - and I want BEDKNOBS and PETE'S DRAGON SEs. Treasure Island would be great, too. And THE ONE AND ONLY ORIGINAL FAMILY BAND.

I agree that Disney's fixation with anniversaries is rather ridiculous, but at the very least, it enables us to predict when certain films can become SE's (like Hunchback and Hercules). Besides, Disney should be commended for not following other studios and putting silly names on their SE's thinking they'll attract more consumers that way (well, except for The Parent Trap remake's "Special Double Trouble Edition"...).

Well, you know I'll bet she's sick and tired of talking about it. Just one of those things, I think.

Is Angela still in good health? I hope so, and I haven't heard anything to the contrary. She's a few months away from turning 80, and she looked extremely old and frail in The Blackwater Lightship, but that may have been intentional. I do see that she has a few projects she's working on right now, which is good news.

She did some kind of interview for that kind of lame TV Land special, the Top 10, on Greatest Romances / Couples, and I thought she looked amazing! Great is just not good enough. Hopefully, the interview was taken from recent years.

JM, in my opinion, you are not a true Disney fan anymore.

4 or 5 years ago I met her at a concert. And talked to her for a few minnutes, and she said that Bedknobs and Broomsticks was one of her favorite movies that she had ever made. I have the dvd that came out 3 or 4 years ago, but I would love to see a Special Edition dvd of it out. The dvd that they released of Mary Poppins was "awesome." Hopefully they can give bedknobs the same treatment. Also if Angela had hated Bedknobs, she wouldn't have said all the good things that she says about it on the dvd.

I would love a SE for this movie, infact i'm holding out for one. I haven't seen it in years, many many years, but I remember loving it, darn now I wanna watch it.
