this is my 101st message posted (i think thats a world record, considering my first post was on the 28th- less then a week ago), so i've decided to post about 101 dalmations. Well actually, 102.
This is, in my opinion- one of the worst films i've ever seen in my entire life... but it actually ended up doing pretty well.... so i was interested in finding out what the public thought.

It's dalmati
Ans people [*]
Well, as for 102 Dalmatians it promised so much. We were told that Glenn Close herself had script approval on the sequel and had already rejected a number of treatments. I thought that 102 could actually be a sequel that was better than the original (well, the original live-action film).
And to be fair it did have some good ideas and scenes. I think the idea of Cruella's Pavlovian 'cure' was inspired, and her playing of the 'normal' Lady Ella to the 'cruel' Cruella is wonderful, and truely worthy of her nomination for a
Golden Satellite Award for
'Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical'
Ella/Cruella's insanity inspired hallucination of a black and white spotted London is also worthy of mention, and perhaps one of the most memorable images from a live-action Disney film in the past Decade.
But ultimately the film fails. I miss Jeff Daniels, Joely Richardson, Hugh Laurie and Mark Williams from the original live action film. (Thankfully Tim McInnerny was kept for the sequel) and despite Close's participation in the script, the film soon lowers itself into the Home Alone like pratfalls of the original Huges created film.
As for the new characters, the new male and female leads are instantly forgettable. I like Gérard Depardieu's character and performance, but Eric Idle's Waddlesworth simply had to go. I hate the Waddlesworth with a Jar Jar Binks level intensity.
Overall I wouldn't stop anyone from renting the film, but would only recommend a purchase to people who have already seen the film and enjoy it.

Never seen it, and don't plan to. It just doesn't look like a good movie to me. Not that i'm against ALL sequels. It's just that some movies don't need sequels...

Don't worry. I felt like complaining about it, and English isn't even my first language. But thanks to you, I don't have to.
As for 102 Dalmatians, I think it was much better than the live action 101 Dalmatians.

This one was one of my biggest disappointments in Disney in recent memory, next to The Emporer's New Groove, Snow Dogs and Atlantis. As with the others I mentioned, 102 had so much going for it initially and could have really been a wonderful film -- but in the end it became a lifeless rehash of the original live-action 101 with an overly predictable and suprisingly simmilar plot, new characters who you really don't care about, and only a few shining moments. (The Lady and the Tramp scenes are really the only ones to stay in my memory.) I really wish the 101 DVD was available outside of the two-pack, cause I'd really like to buy it but don't want 102 (if I have to take 102 I will, but not in P&S.)

I agree with Jake. They should bring back the live-action 101 Dalmatians on DVD.Disney execs are the stupidest execs in the world.
G'Day!
