Yes it is true, we dreaded this day would come. Friday Morning at age 82, voice actor Paul Winchell has died! He provided voices for Disney, most notably as Tigger from 1968-2000. He also worked for Hanna-Barbera.

I believe Jim Cummings took over for Winchell sometime before 2000. In fact, I had assumed it was because he died. So while this news is surprising to me, it's because Winchell was still alive all this time. He just retired? John Fiedler's 80 and he's still doing Piglet's voice. Hope he stays forever young.

Aw, that's a bummer, he will be missed by those who grew up hearing Tigger's voice. R.I.P. Paul.

Wow, I had also assumed he had already passed away because of Jim Cummings replacing him. He did so many great voices; I hope he had a chance to enjoy his retirement.

My heart goes out to April and the rest of his family.

Like Luke, I had always assumed that Jim took over for Paul because Paul had died (the "making of" featurette on Pooh's DVD was created in the mid 90's). This news still depresses me, though. I think I'll watch The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh today in memorium.

He died in his sleep. I'm glad he went peacefully.

R.I.P.

I think I'll watch TMAoWtP as a farewell also.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

I was just thinking about him the other day. Though Jim Cummings is great at his part, he couldn't compare to Paul. He was the only Pooh character I really liked! R.I.P!

Even my cousion one time met him! She even got his autograph. My uncle said he was a really nice guy! He'll certaintly be missed!

Thats very sad. :( I remember seeing interviews on Pooh featurettes with him in it (Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh VHS) and he seemed like such a good spirited man who had a realy youth in his soul :) . RIP Paul. :pooh:

Indeed... whilst I knew of his huge range of voice work, I didn't know about the fact he was an inventor with several patents to his name (including one for an artificial heart). Seems he was good with his hands as well as his larynx. RIP Paul... you'll be sorely missed.

(and not just for Tigger... you can't get away without thinking how distinctive the voice of Gargamel was too)

I just was looking on the internet and I found out that this isn't the first voice for Winne the Pooh to die this year. Howard Morris: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0606593/ The voice of Gopher died. This isn't a good year for Winnie the Pooh.

I'm surprised alot of people thought he was dead.

Wow I can't believe all three passed away so recently.

I never heard about Howard Morris until now, I heard about Winchell this morning and I heard about Fiedler an hour ago on Toon Zone.

Yes he was a truly delightful man.

Howard Morris though also had a short directing career.

He directed Doris Day's last film With Six You Get Eggroll.

A classic family comedy that also starred Brian Keith, Alice Ghostley, Pat Caroll and many other classic comedy people. The movie is kinda like Brady Bunch, about 2 people who get married Doris had 3 boys, Brian Keith had 1 daughter. And by the end of the movie, the whole family acted as one. It took a run in with the law though to bring the family together, which included Doris being thrown into the clinky, for running into a Chicken Truck with her Camper lol. Howard Morris was a directing genius.
