We bought our first DVD player back in June of 2000. My first Disney DVD's were the Gold Classics Editions of Alice in Wonderland and Mulan (I consider Alice to be the very first because that's what I went to buy; Mulan was an after thought while I was at the store). I got my own personal DVD player for Christmas of that year, and I believe the first Disney DVD I got that Christmas was The Fantasia Anthology.

I made the switch to Disney DVD when I bought a dvd player in January 2002. I picked up my first dvd, Snow White, on the same day. From there, I began selling my vhs tapes and buying dvds. I no longer have any movies on vhs.

Novemeber 2004 was when I first bought Aladdin. But honestly, I never planned on purchasing more until I purchased The Lion King because it was to be locked away. I also purchased Mulan in a package deal. Then it started looking like a collection, so to answer the question... January 2005!

Got a DVD player April of 1999 and got my first Disney DVD that Christmas (<i>A Bug's Life</i> 2-disc). I had rented a few before then, including the standard <i>A Bug's Life</i> disc.

I have always been a Disney DVD'er.. Didn't do the VHS thing.. Only two movies I had on VHS were Fantasia and Once Upon A Christmas. I got my first DVD player in 99 and my first Disney DVD was Toy Story.. Didn't start collecting until recently.. but I'm not doing too bad.. I have around 89 of the animated movies :)

My dad got a DVD player a few years ago, and that was the first one of the house. Fantasia was not only my first Disney DVD, it was ny first DVD period.

I switched sometime ago. Many years ago when the DVD collecting started ("it all began with deuce bigalow for $9.44 at wal-mart!" :p).
I realized that I didn't want to keep watching the VHS so we "switched" to DVDs; plus, the DVD has pretty cool features! 8)

Beauty & the Beast was the first Disney movie for us. I think... :?

When I got a DVD player in 2002 my first DVD's were Beauty and the Beast, Pixar 15 Anniversary Box Set and Peter Pan.

Now I only need to own Cinderella to complete my Disney Animated DVD Collection.

I never made a switch. We only really rented Disney stuff on vhs or borrowed from family. The first Disney dvd I bought was Lady and the Tramp, I had about 10 Disney titles before I bought any non-Disney. I bought Lady and the Tramp in 1999 and have been buying ever since. I have over 300 dvd's- 224 are Disney!

I actually didn't start until around this time last year despite owning a DVD player since 2002. I'd always been skeptical about re-buying films on a new format, despite being tempted by bonus features. I deided that I would only buy Alice in Wonderland and the platinum editions of Aladdin and The Little Mermaid. However, when I saw The Lion King selling for a meer £10.99 in a Summer sale at HMV, I decided to treat myself, and then, with the aid of finding about the pan and scan process which is present on videos...the obsession spiralled out of control.

I made the switch around last November. It wasn't so much of a switch, actually. I only had a few Disney movies on VHS that I would watch two or three times throughout the year.

When I moved last summer, my mom threw away my Peter Pan video along with about half of my little collection. I was really angry at her...she said she threw them out because "I never watch Disney movies anymore". Pffft.

Well, now I'm in my "Disney phase" and I collect Disney dvds and currently have 15 dvds and 6 VHS tapes. I'm starting my summer job tomorrow. With my paycheck, I'll finally be able to afford a complete DVD collection. Yay.

*edit*

Oh, and this whole thing that the Disney company is doing with making their dvds out of print..it's driving me up the wall. I can't afford to buy every OOP Disney dvd from amazon.com for $40! Too much money! Argh.

I wish I was collecting Disney dvds back in 2002.

Before DVD, I bought all of my Disney video on Laserdisc... I got my player back in 1990, although I am not sure when I got the first Disney title.

I had:
Beauty and the Beast: A Work in Progress
Fantasia Box Set
Honey, I Blew Up the Kid
The Santa Clause
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves Box Set
Toy Story Box Set
Who Framed Roger Rabbit

The only Disney VHS I have is the original That Darn Cat, and I bought it a couple of years ago, after I had already bought my DVD player.

I now have 57 Disney titles on DVD, including live-action, Pixar, and the WD Treasures (not counting the Ghibli/Miyazaki titles, though.)

Pinnochio (LI) was my first Disney DVD, and the second DVD I ever bought, back in May of 2000. Before the year was out, I picked up Lady and the Tramp (LI,) The Jungle Book (LI,) Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (PE,) Toy Story Ultimate Toy Box, and 101 Dalmations (LI.)
