Mickey Mouse Boy's Disney DVD News! (R1)

Here's the lastest from BVHE:
THE THREE LIVES OF THOMASINA was originally scheduled to come out this month (September). It was pushed, a date has not be disclosed. It is scheduled to be released soon, most likely within the next three to six months.
BVHE is basically on a plan to release as many as ten films a month to DVD over the foreseeable future. Some of those will be direct-to-video content, but most of them will be from the Vault.
Don't expect the Mouseketeers (the originals) to be seen on DVD any time soon. Disney's had too many smarting lawsuits from too many people for things like this... pricey. Eventually some of this might get worked out, but people have to work on this kind of thing, and that costs money, especially legal fees for negotiating, etc. Given the number of Mouseketeers who need to give assent... there's not much motive for Disney to do much here, not soon anyway. And it's not exactly like the public is demanding this stuff be released.
DARBY O'GILL next year ('04). it seems they will now indeed be coupling the TV special with the movie.
THE THREE MUSKETEERS... buzz is apparently pretty good, believe it or not, and the quality, for a DTV, should be pretty good. Apparently the film is costing more than the average Disney DTV animated movie.
There'll be no living creature on Earth, or at least in Los Angeles, who won't know about THE LION KING as it approaches DVD release. They're pushing for a big promotion.
CHICAGO was a surprise DVD hit. There are a lot of smiles in Burbank these days... it went way past expectations for DVD sales.
THE RESCUERS - the release was kind of a stumble, and they recognize that. Long story... not worth going into (I'm very tired right now). But expect a two-pack, both RESCUERS movies, around Christmas. No extra features that I know of... just a value-pricing thing.

Shaggy D.A. is coming to DVD soon!

I wish they released a 3-disc pack with a lot of bonuses... Well, let's keep dreaming!

Both Rescuers on a single disc or is it just the regular current editions being offered in a 2 for 1 bargain type promotional deal? If it is a new release, either single or spanned accross 2-discs, will the packaging differ and will the current features (True Life Adventure and bonus shorts) still be featured as extra content?

STASHONE it would seem that the 2 already existing ones will just be sold together, nothing extra...

Well, the fact that they recognize they seriously dropped the ball on this one is very encouraging to me. I'll wait for a SE (have no choice obviously), I just hope they do the right thing and actually put one together.

Thanks, MMB.
Looking forward to Darby and 3 Musketeers the most, methinks...

Thanks for the news! So it seems that following will next year be Special Editions in the vein of Vault Disney, I presume:
Mary Poppins
Freaky Friday
The Shaggy D.A.
The Three Lives of Thomasina
Darby O' Gill and the Little People
Will the success of Chicago on DVD perhaps help push for the release of a packed 2-disc? They have to release a 2-disc SOMETIME since France got a nice 2-disc set that only needs a few little supplements here and there to be truly great.

My bet on the Rescuers two-pack is that it's just the two current DVDs with a cheaper price and a box around them. In any case I'll be buying it if that's the case since I never got them individually.
The live action SEs will probably be single-disc cut back versions a la Witch Mountian and Apple Dumpling Gang, with the obvious exception of Mary Poppins, whch is the single live action Disney film most deserving of double-disc treatment IMHO. Glad to see from the Sleeping Beauty insert that it will finally be getting its due. Freaky Friday might scrape by with a two-disc version due to the remake, though.
Of course Chicago sold well! It was a fun, light movie that pretty much everybody likes that won Best Picture. Hopefully its mega-sales will prompt a two-disc set, although I doubt Joe Six Pack will upgrade. I gladly would, though.
Great news about the amount of DVD titles we'll be getting from BVHE.
Going to be expensive, though. Nice to hear about the Lion King campign, too - it'll be fun to watch those ads. But they really have to get an jump on the Sleeping Beauty advertising. That will sell big, too, but it needs a lot more help than Lion King because there's always going to be that idiot or two who at first assumes that it's too old to be worth buying (Mom assumes that with a lot of movies, and though she's not the target market for Sleeping Beauty, I rest my case.) I have yet to see a single TV spot, not even during ABC's airing of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on Sunday, which I think would have been the perfect place to advertise it. There it would have reached kids who could be drawn in by the characters and music and story (or whatever aspect they were choosing to play up) and parents who would remember it from their childhoods and want to buy it to share it with their kids. Plus, it is musical family entertainment, sort of in the same vein of CCBB in that sense. And yet, no ad in the entire two-hour run of CCB. There was an ad for Stitch The Movie which succeeded in convincing me not to see that movie, though.

The advertisements for Sleeping Beauty might start up this weekend, but they will probably be those "What's new at Wal-mart" commercials, I guess if it isn't a brand new DTV sequel or THE LION KING they don't really consider it to be worth really advertising...

Still We all know it's coming out, and that's all that really matters...
Arg... I'd like to think that SE's of Tarzan and Mulan would be coming out next year, but alass, it seems they are scheduled for 2005, that seems to have been the story for a while now, and we now know that's when well the movies themselves, no talk of SE, will be coming out in Scandinavia...

During the Today Show this morning (Wednesday, the 3rd) there was a commercial for Sleeping Beauty.
I'm far more excited about Sleeping Beauty than The Lion King (even though I do
like the Lion King). Although I certainly understand the great love The Lion King inspires, I simply enjoy Sleeping Beauty more.
The fact that a non 'Platinum' classic is given such a great treatment is a good sign. - - - I hope!

While I haven't seen any commercials on TV, there was this big-screen TV at Costco tonight that continuously played a Sleeping Beuaty promo, listing all the Special features and showing clips from the film. Just watching it really hyped me up.
