I somehow haven't heard about this until now, and I did a couple of searches and didn't see it anywhere here... a new Charlotte's Web is coming! I don't know if it's a remake of the classic or a new adapatation of the novel. It's animated, with an all-star voice cast, but I'm not sure who is making it or if it's traditional or CGI (I'm guessing the latter).

Methinks it will be a new adaptation in the style of Racing Stripes and Babe, as Dakota Fanning isn't being touted as a voice for Fern, and I really can't see all the animals being CGI animals in a real life barn. Sounds creepy, dunnit?

In all honestly, anything with Dakota Fanning sounds creepy. She can be spooky.
Only joking, Dakota Fanning
I'm sure this will be must see for her alone.

Actually, the animals
will be all CG according to ComingSoon.net. Nickelodeon Pictures and Paramount Pictures are teaming up to produce this film like they did with Lemony Snicket (does this mean they'll be tackling a new children's novel adaptation every other year?). With so many big names attached, it must be one heck of a script (or Paramount's giving out some major paychecks for persuasion). I loved the book back in elementary school and really liked the animated film, so I'm looking forward to this version. Supposedly it'll be more melancholy than the animated one, which is in keeping with the book's tone.
With Dakota doing this, now, I wonder if she'll ever go on to do that reported Alice in Wonderland movie for Dreamworks...

I heard about this quite a while back and that it's supposed to be live-action mixed with CGI.
Thanks for the link, as I hadn't heard much else! I know that the animated film is now considered a classic, but I hope they'll do a better job here. E.B. White was heartbroken over the first film.

Steve Buscemi voicing Templeton? Now THAT is inspired casting

I quite liked the original.. A live action / CGI just sound awful.. I'm getting that ill feeling about this... If they are going to redo it, just go all CGI (Even tho I'd rather it be hand drawn).
CGI is cool.. But it lacks softness.

I'm intreagued by the fact that it's supposed to be a bit darker than the animated film. . .
I grew up with the animated film of course, and there's a lot I like about it, but the quality of the animation irritates me.

I always loved the original film as well as the book. Though the music was much to be desired, except for Charlotte's Web song. That was a pretty song.
Wilbur always annoyed me....Selfish, self-centered swine, "I don't wanna die! I don't wanna die! Come with me Charlotte, even if your sick, because I need you!"
Charlotte was TOO good of a friend. Wilbur stepped all over her.
Regardless, it was a good story about self-sacrifice and friendship, Wilbur was just not a lovable character to me.
Julia Roberts as Charlotte? Blah.
Danny Elfman writing the score?

The cast is fascinating, but I don't know if I'll see it. Debbie Reynolds and Agnes Moorehead in the original was a good enough "all star cast" for me!
However, my third/fourth grade teacher loved this story. She'd probably be quite interested in the remake.

Well the cast seems okay! Especially Steve Buscemi!

But Dakota Fanning I find annoying. Well it could've been worse I guess.
As for CGI I have nothing wrong with this. Today movie studios have improved there CG animation so I think it will succed. As for the story, well I never loved the book, but maybe this would be an okay rental.

The all-time classic, book and animated movie is coming to theathers for a live movie on Dec. 15, 2006. Are you going to see this movie?

I will pass. There's a bunch of movies coming out that month I want to see anyway, three of which are must-sees, and this one's not on either list. I found the trailer to be cute, but too.... how do I say this without sounding like an ass... Dakota Fanning-ish.
Cheers,
JM

Highly doubtful. The book and 1973 animated film are enough for me. I'll give it a fair chance, though; when it arrives on DVD I'll put it in my Netflix queue.

I hate the animated one with a passion, so no.

Deffinetly. Between enjoying the book and animated movie myself and having a young daughter, it would be a crime for me to miss it.

Certainly.
I've been a huge fan of the book ever since I was a little tot, so it would be blasphemous for me not too see the film-- no matter how much I despise Dakota Fanning and her grotesque screaming abilities.

Besides, if the movie is well based on the book, there aren't a whole lot of scenes with Fern. Once Wilbur goes to Zuckerman's farm, she visits now and then, less and less as she grows older. The only other "large" scene with her is the fair, and even that isn't as big as the scenes of her raising Wilbur. For the most part, Wilbur, Charlotte, and the other barn animals have the spotlight. Hence, I will likely be able to stand the movie with her in it
