hello , I was just waching a little mermaid vhs that I got and this movie has alot of the same things as the disney one this movie was made in 1975 the disney one was made 1989 so disney must have copyed some of this movies ideas like the small fearful friend , the prince stchaue and more if you have seen this movie say what you think. please exuse my spelling thanks

You're right. The 1975 film was the first creation to ever contain the "small fearful friend" and the first ever with a statue of a prince. Turns out it's not just Disney ripping off the prince statue. Look at all these results. By the way, I heard some European guy named Hans Christian Andersen has ripped off BOTH versions of the film too. Take that, Disney!

Good one Luke. I hate when people say that some one has stole an idea from someone and it doesn't seem logical.

Still, I'm wondering what film is being referred to. . . is it an anime? It's not the one with Marina, is it?

I read in a book somewhere of a sailor who saw a redheaded mermaid in like 1875. He must have ripped off Disney somehow too.
And Barbie's mermaids have shell tops. How dare they rip of Disney!

Also, I recall the prince statue in the ORIGINAL Hans Christian Anderson story. I'll have to read it again to see, but I could have sworn she had a statue.

The way I heard it, Disney were accused of copying the story of The Lion King, from some old play by a British guy!, Something about somebody called Hamlet or something!

Yeah, did you hear about the POTC rip off too? I can't believe they ripped that movie off of a ride!!

And apparantley Disney's 1998 film "The Parent Trap" was based upon a film from the 60s, with the same story and title and everything! The even had the cheek to release it from the same film studio!

But let's not forget how Disney when starting their DVD company; that Disney DVD sign has the same design of that company Disney Videos' logo, only replacing the word "video" with "DVD".

You'd be surprised how many people love this movie.

I think we're getting a little ridiculous with the sarcasm. Though Disney might have gotten ideas from the 1970s version, I do appreciate some changes (I haven't seen the anime movie, but I've read a detailed article about it):
-The animation style difference. I don't like anime very much.
-The change of hair color. Red heads are underrated.
-The change of name. I like the sound of Ariel more than Marina.

nope on the case it says 1978 way before disneys

I think you are making a big deal of NOTHING.

As a writer myself, there is a ying and yang to friends when you write them. One friend tends to have their head in the clouds (Ariel) and the other friend tends to keep their feet on the ground (Flounder). They get along because they are opposites. One without the other would be lost. Ariel may not think twice and Flounder may never try at all.
This ying/yang friendship has been used not since 1978, but for CENTURIES.

Both movies are an ADAPTATION of Hans Christian Anderson's story. IMO, I am sure he would like the anime version which stayed more true to his original story, but that is it exactly. While the anime version was true, and thus a TRAGIC story, Disney's version took a different route and reworked all the tragic elements to give a HAPPY ending for Ariel and the prince. You truely have no basis on this and you need to just let it go before this becomes a Great Mouse Detective 2 thread all over again. No more mole hills into mountains please.
