DO any of you guys think that movies like The Aristocats, sword in the stone, The Black Cauldron, and The Rescuers down under will get a 2-disc edition?

I doubted that they would but in second thought i realised that they might since Disney did re-released all of its movies in VHS. Just like the VHS masterpiece collection, all of them where considered masterpieces. and where labeled the same as snow white and Bambi.

I'd really like Disney to re-release The Rescuers and Rescuers Down under as a set and better quality.

And with a lot of new stuff and material!

I really don't know for certain if there's a chance that they will get re-released, but there is, happily, a possibility of the lesser films being re-released in good editions. From what I gather, Disney is trying to get rid of many of the quieter films on their current DVD; they're giving them away in offers, so that could signal that they're trying to get out a new edition. Plus, with sequels planned for The Aristocats and The Fox and the Hound, what better way to advertise those sequels by putting out a 2 Disc Set of the original classic out?

i think this will be hard to determine. I would think that if the company is planing on creating a sequel to a movie that they would release the sequel close to a time when they would release the original, like Lilo and Stitch 2, i'm expecting that the special edition would release at the most a year after the sequel. But then again, we're getting a Kronk's New Groove without a release of an Emperor's New groove in sight.

I think that the Aristocats, and The Fox and the Hound will definately get at a re-release and most likely that'd be a 2-disc special edition of some kind. I'd also expect for the Rescuers and the Rescuers Down Under to be re-released as well. I hope that Disney would release the Sword in the Stone as a 2-disc special edition. My guess is that if the Black Cauldron were to be re-released in DVD that it would get a nice special edition, maybe not 2-discs though. I have a feeling that The Black Cauldron and movies like Saludos Amigos wont be released until blue-ray is released. I hope this isn't the case, but i could see this happening.

here is my question though... do any of you think that disney will re-release Cinderella II for the release of the Cinderella Platinum Edition?

I hope that all the movies will get special 2 disc treatment, but it probably won't happen. Anyone know if a 2 disc Hercules will come out anytime soon?

I don't see the need for a 2-disc edition of a title unless there exists interesting material for it.

The Black Cauldron should really get a very special special edition. I'd expect the story of its troubled creation to be very interesting. But I wonder if Disney would be able to handle something like that the way it deserves...

I'm actually surprised that HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME didn't get one, since it made over $100 million domestically.

It will get one, next year. At one point specs for the 2 Disk DVD were released. But Disney delayed the special release for its 10th anniversary (atleast that's what we fans hope will happen ).

What is blue-ray?

Blue-Ray is one of the new DVD formats that they are talking about introducing. I for one am hoping they dont do it. I am happy with my collection and dont want to start over again and I think it would be a mistake if they stop making the current types of dvds

Even with a new and better format you most probably won't have to start over if you don't want to...

I agree. I think it's pointless. I mean with the quality that dvd's can allready attain, there really is no need.

I think all Disney films will get a 2 disc release, however when "Saludos Amigos: Two disc edition" is released, it will probably be the norm for all DVDs to have four discs!

Honestly, I would be content with 2-Discers of all the Platinum titles, including the four newly added ones, plus the remaining 90's rennaissance titles.

We have already had this discussion but yeah. Is blu ray better? Yes Will it hold more bonus features? Yes. But in my opinion DVD is enough. I am satisfied.

I think the new formats are going to bomb. Look at all the formats they have tried to reintroduce to replace CD - Digital Tapes, SACD, DVD Music and others. They all flopped, because CDs were good enough. Now if we want to get totally off topic, i think records sound better. But they are not very portable, and a large collection takes up a lot of space.

Whining about Blu-ray won't make it go away, mis mariconcitos. It's going to arrive within a few years, and it's going to vie for the home video market right along with DVDs. The reality of the situation is that what may kill the format is the distributors themselves - if they can't unite and agree on one HD standard, then they'll end up cannabilizing themselves. That's one big reason that better audio formats crashed and burned - there was no unified format, plus the lack of any real marketing to increase awareness, plus the messy issue of easily-accessible music downloads, iPod, etc. And that's only audio, after all. Film is a completely different beast. We're far more critical of the film experience, as visually-oriented creatures, than we are of a lesser and more monosensual event like listening to a song.

My honest opinion about 2-disc sets for the more obscure and less popular animated films? Unless Disney has some sort of marketing gimmick they're aiming for, I doubt we'll see many more Special Edition re-releases. If Disney really is going whole hog on the Blu-ray boat, then they would make stunning collector's editions of their films in Blu-ray in order to appeal to the demographic most likely to buy the format first - the hardcore collectors. If they were smart enough they would know that not even hardcore Disney fans - much less the Average Joe Family - will pick up on the Blu-ray idea, at least initially. So their best bet is the collectors and home theatre nuts. Ergo, they would (hopefully) make collector's sets of many of their films in Blu-ray - whether they'd do the same for DVD at the same time remains to be seen.

So anyhoo... who knows what the future of Disney's DVDs will be? One would hope that they'll compromise and continue making DVDs, while launching a marketing push to get people to try the (massively superior) Blu-ray. If they don't play their cards right, and if they're not aggressive enough about converting the public to Blu-ray, then yes indeed... the format will die.
