With the release of the upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread about your favorite Dahl movies, ones you'd like to see made, and what you think so far about CatCF. I know there was a thread a while ago about Dahl's books, but I couldn't find it. So, feel free to post your thoughts.

I absolutely love the filmed versions of Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (I also quite like The Witches, too). Matilda's by far my favorite. It's the most faithful Dahl adaptation to date while still be inventive and fresh. I'm sorely disappointed that the upcoming Special Editon is pan and scan only (despite the UK getting an anamorphic transfer). Freaking Sony... James and the Giant Peach is almost nothing like the book, but it's still an excellent film in its own right (even if I think I would've preferred it being all live action). I'm really looking forward to Burton's take on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In some ways, it already looks more like the book than the 70's musical was (Charlie has a dad again, the goose egg room is now back to the squirrell room, and I noticed some shots of Johnny Depp outside of his Wonka costume, which could be from the stories Grandpa Joe told Charlie which got left out of the previous film). I'm hoping that if this film does well enough, Burton could take on the sequel (which is arguably even more twisted), Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.

James and the Giant Peach was enjoyable, I didn't care any other of the movies. I'm probably the only one who didn'y like Willy Wonka. Don't get me wrong, the book was good, the movie just bored me. The one with Johnny Deep looks worse because now it's wasting more good talents(Johnny Deep)! :x

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is one of the greatest movies ever made. James and the Giant Peach is a bit busy for my liking, but it certainly has some strong points. Matilda is okay, too, but somewhat underwhelming. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory doesn't look so hot from what we've seen, but if it can lead to more people discovering the original and potentially an even better DVD for that, it can't be all bad.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is one of my favorite books from Roald Dahl. James and the Giant Peach was okay but could have been better. Matilda was very silly but still enjoyable. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory look very different and lame then the original film.

"James and the Giant Peach," of what I remember of it, was boring and weird. The movie anyway, but I haven't read the book in so long I can't say anything about it.

"Matilda" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" are tied in my opinion, as movies. I don't want to see the new one though. I don't like the person who's directing it and the few pictures I've seen of it make Johnny Depp look really creepy.

I liked the move Matilda because they mentioned the tiny island! 8)
I liked James and the Giant Peach and absolutely adore Willy Wonka!

I'm still 50/50 about Charlie. :headshake:

My favourite is Matilda. I like Mara Wilson who plays Matilda as she also played in the remake of Miracle On 34th Street.

The Witches is my favourite of the Roald Dahl books turned into movies. Although its not perfect it gets pretty scary in places which is always the true spirit Dahl wanted.

I would really love them to make a movie of "The Twits", "Georges Marvolous Medicine" and/or "The Minpins" in the future.

I enjoyed Matilda and will get the new dvd when it comes out. I don't know if I will go and see the new Willy Wonka movie....Johnny Depp as Wonka is very scary to me. The pictures I've seen of him in his Wonka costume justs says 'scary' to me. I don't think I'd be able to see it with out cringing.

As a matter of fact, I did. I absoluetly love Matilda, and I am getting a DVD no matter what. CatCF looks worth seeing to me. WWatCF is great. The Witches is fine. I belive Tim Burton knows what he's doing (anyone seen Edward Scissorhands?).
