How do you buy your DVDs? Most of the ones I have bought have been blind buys.

I have to see it first before I buy it.

It's almost always a blind buy.

Most of mine are blind buys like I mentioned in my original post. Renting them up here is expensive. Rogers video for a new release or almost new release is close to $6 Canadian for two days. Borrowing from the library can be lengthy. I've got The Day After Tomorrow on hold. I've had it on hold for close to 3 months as there's so many holds. The problem with the library is sometimes they aren't that clear. I ended up borrowing Winnie the Pooh: Springtime With Roo twice and both times they froze and I couldn't really watch it. From the blind buys, I've never had bad luck and actually like the movie even with it being a blind buy. I did that with both Titanic and Twister. I like both. I'd say about three-quarter of the movies I bought were blind buys.

I wont buy movies until I've seen them 95% of the time. I have heard really good things about movies and came close to buying them but rented instead, and hated the movie. I would buy a disney movie if I hadn't seen it, like the treasure tins, because if I didn't like it, I'm sure i'll have a kid that will.

How about BOTH?
I make it a point that we buy the DVDs we've seen in theaters, even it was a crappy movie.
Most our DVDs are blind buys though, but I usually get the opinions of others and make use of Reviews!

I had to have seen and REALLY liked the movie to buy it. I mean, I have Blockbuster Online, so I rent almost anything with a pulse...so that really eliminates the purpose of buying a lot of movies.

I lavish my money on CDs instead

I used to do a lot of blind buys, back when I didn't get to a movie theater much. But now I see most of the movies I'm interested in in the theaters. But I blind buy a lot of older movies and ones that are only on limited release (I just bought I Am David and have never seen it) because we hardly ever get those where I live.

Well, most of the stuff I buy now is stuff I have seen. I very rarely make blind buys now, especially given I can get review discs.

Money is tight, so I'm only getting those things I know will make a good addition to the collection now.

I buy mostly movies that I have seen, but occassionaly I will buy one that I have not seen.

I do a few blind buys based on recommendation, but mostly I buy DVDs that I know I like because I've seen the movie before.

I've other things besides DVDs that I like to buy in... ast amounts (*cough*manga*cough*) so I like to save my money for them instead.

I mostly buy what I've seen (since I know I want it in my collection) but sometimes when a movie is attractive enough, I'll blind-buy it (Dinosaur)!

A lot of movies I own are because I really do enjoy the movies. I've only purchased a few dvds a la blind buy. These were blind buys because I REALLY wanted to see them in a theatre and I just knew I would like it based on the trailer (only has happened to a few).

When i buy blind buys its because i think i'll like them and i maybe wanted to see them at the cinema but didnt get chance.

Definitely more than half of the movies I buy have been blind buys. I'd say only RARELY does that come back to bite me in the butt- especially Legally Blonde, Frailty, and Shatter Dead, those were some AWFUL movies. I also use DVD as the way I see a lot of movies. Other times I'll have seen the movie on TV or I'll have read up on it over the internet and for months, I'll have wanted it really bad. I'm a very happy blind-buyer usually. But I also know the value of RESEARCH, it's a very important tool to help me select the proper films for my DVD collection.

usually get new releases if i dont already have it.... or as gifts.

Before I buy any movie, I have to see it in theaters or rent it first!

Mostly blind buys, I usually only buy movies that the previews look really good. I've only picked out about a hand full of bad movies, so thats not to bad.
